1 A nd it cometh to pass, in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, reigned hath Hezekiah son of Ahaz king of Judah;

І сталося третього року Осії, сина Елиного, Ізраїлевого царя, зацарював Єзекія, син Ахазів, цар Юдин.

2 a son of twenty and five years was he in his reigning, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Abi daughter of Zechariah.

Він був віку двадцяти й п'яти літ, коли зацарював, і царював в Єрусалимі двадцять і дев'ять літ. А ім'я його матері Аві, дочка Захарія.

3 A nd he doth that which right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that David his father did,

І робив він угодне в Господніх очах, усе так, як робив був його батько Давид.

4 h e hath turned aside the high places, and broken in pieces the standing-pillars, and cut down the shrine, and beaten down the brazen serpent that Moses made, for unto these days were the sons of Israel making perfume to it, and he calleth it `a piece of brass.'

Він понищив пагірки, і поламав стовпи для богів, і стяв Астарту, і розбив мідяного змія, якого зробив був Мойсей, бо аж до цих днів Ізраїлеві сини все кадили йому й кликали його: Нехуштан.

5 I n Jehovah, God of Israel, he hath trusted, and after him there hath not been like him among all the kings of Judah, nor who were before him;

Він надіявся на Господа, Бога Ізраїля, і такого, як він, не було між усіма царями Юдиними, ані між тими, що були перед ним.

6 a nd he cleaveth to Jehovah, he hath not turned aside from after Him, and keepeth His commands that Jehovah commanded Moses.

І міцно тримався він Господа, не відступався від Нього, і додержував заповіді Його, що наказав був Господь Мойсеєві.

7 A nd Jehovah hath been with him, in every place where he goeth out he acteth wisely, and he rebelleth against the king of Asshur, and hath not served him;

І був Господь із ним, у всьому, куди він ходив, він мав поводження. І збунтувався він на асирійського царя, і не служив йому.

8 h e hath smitten the Philistines unto Gaza, and its borders, from a tower of watchers unto the fenced city.

Він побив филистимлян аж до Аззи та границі її від вартової башти аж до твердинного міста.

9 A nd it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of king Hezekiah -- it the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel -- come up hath Shalmaneser king of Asshur against Samaria, and layeth siege to it,

І сталося четвертого року царя Єзекії, це сьомий рік Осії, Елиного сина, Ізраїлевого царя, пішов Салманасар, цар асирійський, на Самарію, та й обліг її.

10 a nd they capture it at the end of three years; in the sixth year of Hezekiah -- it the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel -- hath Samaria been captureth,

І здобув він її по трьох роках: шостого року Єзекії, це дев'ятий рік Осії, Ізраїлевого царя, була здобута Самарія.

11 a nd the king of Asshur removeth Israel to Asshur, and placed them in Halah, and in Habor the river Gozan, and cities of the Medes,

І вигнав асирійський цар Ізраїля до Асирії, і попровадив їх у Халах, і в Хавор, над річку Ґазан, та до мідійських міст.

12 b ecause that they have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, and transgress His covenant -- all that He commanded Moses, servant of Jehovah -- yea, they have not hearkened nor done.

Це за те, що не слухалися вони голосу Господа, Бога свого, і переступали заповіта Його; усього, що наказав був Мойсей, раб Господній, вони ані не слухали, ані не робили.

13 A nd in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah hath Sennacherib king of Asshur come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and seizeth them,

А чотирнадцятого року царя Єзекії прийшов Санхерів, цар асирійський, на всі укріплені Юдині міста, та й захопив їх.

14 a nd Hezekiah king of Judah sendeth unto the king of Asshur to Lachish, saying, `I have sinned, turn back from off me; that which thou puttest on me I bear;' and the king of Asshur layeth on Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold,

І послав Єзекія, цар Юдин, до царя асирійського, до Лахішу, говорячи: Згрішив я! Відійди від мене, а що накладеш на мене, понесу. І наклав асирійський цар на Єзекію, Юдиного царя, три сотні талантів срібла та тридцять талантів золота.

15 a nd Hezekiah giveth all the silver that is found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the house of the king;

І віддав Єзекія все срібло, знайдене в Господньому домі та в царевих скарбницях.

16 a t that time hath Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Jehovah, and the pillars that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and giveth them to the king of Asshur.

Того часу Єзекія відрубав золото з дверей Господнього дому та зо стовпів, що покрив був Єзекія, Юдин цар, золотом, і дав його асирійському цареві.

17 A nd the king of Asshur sendeth Tartan, and the chief of the eunuchs, and the chief of the butlers, from Lachish, unto king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, to Jerusalem, and they go up and come in to Jerusalem, and they go up, and come in and stand by the conduit of the upper pool that in the highway of the fuller's field.

А асирійський цар послав із Лахішу до царя Єзекії головного командувача, і великого євнуха та великого чашника з великим військом до Єрусалиму. І пішли вони, і прийшли та й стали над водотягом горішнього ставу, що на битій дорозі до поля Валюшників.

18 A nd they call unto the king, and go out unto them doth Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the remembrancer.

І кликнули вони до царя, і до них вийшов Еліяким, син Хілкійї, начальник палати, і писар Шевна, та Йоах, син Асафів, канцлер.

19 A nd the chief of the butlers saith unto them, `Say, I pray you, unto Hezekiah, Thus said the great king, the king of Asshur, What this confidence in which thou hast confided?

І сказав до них великий чашник: Скажіть Єзекії: Отак сказав великий цар, цар асирійський: Що це за надія, на яку ти надієшся?

20 T hou hast said: Only a word of the lips! counsel and might for battle; now, on whom hast thou trusted that thou hast rebelled against me?

Чи думаєш ти, що слово уст, то вже рада та сила до війни? На кого тепер надієшся, що збунтувався проти мене?

21 ` Now, lo, thou hast trusted for thee on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it! -- so Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.

Тепер оце ти надієшся собі опертися на оту поламану очеретину, на Єгипет, що коли хто опирається на неї, то вона входить у долоню йому й продірявлює її. Отакий фараон, цар єгипетський, для всіх, хто надіється на нього.

22 ` And when ye say unto me, Unto Jehovah our God we have trusted, is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath turned aside, and saith to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar do ye bow yourselves in Jerusalem?

А коли ви скажете мені: Ми надіємось на Господа, Бога нашого, то чи ж Він не Той, що Єзекія понищив пагірки Його та жертівники Його, і сказав Юді та Єрусалимові: перед оцим тільки жертівником будете вклонятися в Єрусалимі?

23 ` And, now, give a pledge for thee, I pray thee, to my lord the king of Asshur, and I give to thee two thousand horses, if thou art able to give for thee riders on them.

А тепер піди в заклад із моїм паном, асирійським царем, і я дам тобі дві тисячі коней, якщо ти зможеш собі дати на них верхівців.

24 A nd how dost thou turn back the face of one captain of the least of the servants of my lord, that thou dost trust for thee on Egypt for chariot, and for horsemen?

І як же ти проженеш хоч одного намісника з найменших слуг мого пана? А ти собі надієшся на Єгипет ради колесниць та верхівців!

25 N ow, without Jehovah have I come up against this place to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up against this land, and thou hast destroyed it.'

Тепер же, чи без Господа прийшов я на це місце, щоб знищити його? Господь сказав був мені: Піди на той край та знищ його!

26 A nd Eliakim son of Hilkiah saith -- and Shebna, and Joah -- to the chief of the butlers, `Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants Aramaean, for we are understanding, and do not speak with us Jewish, in the ears of the people who on the wall.'

І сказав Еліяким, син Хілкійї, і Шевна та Йоах до великого чашника: Говори до своїх рабів по-арамейському, бо ми розуміємо, і не говори з нами по-юдейському в слух тих людей, що на мурі.

27 A nd the chief of the butlers saith unto them, `For thy lord, and unto thee, hath my lord sent me to speak these words? is it not for the men, those sitting on the wall to eat their own dung and to drink their own water, with you?'

І сказав до них великий чашник: Чи пан мій послав мене говорити ці слова до твого пана та до тебе? Хіба не до цих людей, що сидять на мурі, щоб із вами їсти свій кал та пити свою сечу?

28 A nd the chief of the butlers standeth and calleth with a great voice Jewish, and speaketh and saith, `Hear ye a word of the great king, the king of Asshur:

І став великий чашник, і кликнув гучним голосом по-юдейському, і говорив і сказав: Послухайте слово великого царя, царя асирійського:

29 t hus said the king, Let not Hezekiah lift you up, for he is not able to deliver you out of his hand;

Так сказав цар: Нехай не дурить вас Єзекія, бо він не зможе врятувати вас від руки його!

30 a nd let not Hezekiah make you trust unto Jehovah, saying, Jehovah doth certainly deliver us, and this city is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.

І нехай не запевняє вас Єзекія Господом, говорячи: Рятуючи, врятує вас Господь, і не буде дано цього міста в руку царя асирійського.

31 ` Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus said the king of Asshur, Make with me a blessing, and come out unto me, and eat ye each of his vine, and each of his fig-tree, and drink ye each the waters of his own well,

Не слухайте Єзекії, бо так сказав цар асирійський: Примиріться зо мною, та й вийдіть до мене, та й їжте кожен свій виноград та кожен фіґу свою, і пийте кожен воду зо своєї копанки,

32 t ill my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive, and honey, and live, and die not; and do not hearken unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us.

аж поки я не прийду й не візьму вас до краю такого ж, як ваш Край, до краю збіжжя та виноградного соку, до краю хліба та виноградників, до краю оливки, оливного соку та меду, щоб ви жили й не вмирали! І не слухайте Єзекії, коли він намовляє вас, говорячи: Господь порятує нас!

33 ` Have the gods of the nations delivered at all each his land out of the hand of the king of Asshur?

Чи справді врятували боги тих народів, кожен свій край від руки асирійського царя?

34 W here the gods of Hamath and Arpad? where the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah, that they have delivered Samaria out of my hand?

Де боги Гамату та Арпаду? Де боги Сефарваїму, Гени та Івви? Чи врятували вони Самарію від моєї руки?

35 W ho among all the gods of the lands that have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah doth deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'

Котрий з-поміж усіх богів цих країв урятував свій край від моєї руки, то невже ж Господь урятує Єрусалим від моєї руки?

36 A nd the people have kept silent, and have not answered him a word, for the command of the king is, saying, `Do not answer him.'

І мовчав той народ, і не відповів йому ані слова, бо це був наказ царя, що сказав: Не відповідайте йому!

37 A nd Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who over the house, cometh in, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the remembrancer, unto Hezekiah, with rent garments, and they declare to him the words of the chief of the butlers.

І прийшов Еліяким, син Хілкійї, начальник палати, і писар Шевна, і Йоах, Асафів син, канцлер, із роздертими шатами, до Єзекії, і донесли йому слова великого чашника.
