1 A nd there is a famine in the days of David three years, year after year, and David seeketh the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah saith, `For Saul and for the bloody house, because that he put to death the Gibeonites.'

І був голод за днів Давида три роки, рік за роком. І шукав Давид Господнього лиця, а Господь сказав: Кров на Саула та на його дім за те, що повбивав він ґів'онітян.

2 A nd the king calleth for the Gibeonites, and saith unto them -- as to the Gibeonites, they not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorite, and the sons of Israel had sworn to them, and Saul seeketh to smite them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah --

І покликав цар ґів'онітян та й сказав їм про це. А ґів'онітяни, вони не з Ізраїлевих синів, а з останку амореянина, а Ізраїлеві сини були присягнули їм. Та Саул шукав, щоб повбивати їх через свою горливість для синів Ізраїля та Юди.

3 y ea, David saith unto the Gibeonites, `What do I do for you? and with what do I make atonement? and bless ye the inheritance of Jehovah.'

І сказав Давид до ґів'онітян: Що я зроблю вам і чим надолужу, щоб ви поблагословили Господню спадщину?

4 A nd the Gibeonites say to him, `We have no silver and gold by Saul and by his house, and we have no man to put to death in Israel;' and he saith, `What ye are saying I do to you.'

І сказали йому ґів'онітяни: Не треба нам ані срібла, ані золота від Саула та від дому його, і не треба нам забивати чоловіка в Ізраїлі. А він сказав: Що ви скажете, зроблю вам.

5 A nd they say unto the king, `The man who consumed us, and who devised against us -- we have been destroyed from stationing ourselves in all the border of Israel --

І сказали вони до царя: Чоловік той, що вигубив нас, і що замишляв на нас, щоб нас винищити, щоб ми не стали в усій Ізраїлевій границі,

6 l et there be given to us seven men of his sons, and we have hanged them before Jehovah, in the height of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah.' And the king saith, `I do give;'

нехай буде нам дано семеро мужа з синів його, і ми повішаємо їх для Господа в Ґів'аті Саула, Господнього вибранця. А цар сказав: Я дам.

7 a nd the king hath pity on Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, son of Saul, because of the oath of Jehovah that between them, between David and Jonathan son of Saul;

Та змилосердився цар над Мефівошетом, сином Йонатана, Саулового сина, через Господню присягу, що була поміж ними, між Давидом та між Йонатаном, Сауловим сином.

8 a nd the king taketh the two sons of Rizpah daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and the five sons of Michal daughter of Saul whom she bare to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite,

І взяв цар двох синів Ріцпи, дочки Айї, яких вона породила Саулові, Армонія та Мефівошета, і п'ятьох синів Мелхоли, Саулової дочки, що вона породила Адріїлові, синові мехолатянина Барзіллая,

9 a nd giveth them into the hand of the Gibeonites, and they hang them in the hill before Jehovah; and the seven fall together, and they have been put to death in the days of harvest, in the first, the commencement of barley-harvest.

та й дав їх у руку ґів'онітян, і вони повішали їх на горі перед Господнім лицем. І впали семеро разом, а були вони побиті в перших днях жнив, коли початок жнив ячменю.

10 A nd Rizpah daughter of Aiah taketh the sackcloth, and stretcheth it out for herself on the rock, from the commencement of harvest till water hath been poured out upon them from the heavens, and hath not suffered a fowl of the heavens to rest upon them by day, or the beast of the field by night.

А Ріцпа, дочка Айїна, взяла веретище, і простягла його собі на скелі, і була там від початку жнив аж поки не зійшли на них води з неба, і не дала вона спочити на них птаству небесному вдень, а польовій звірині вночі...

11 A nd it is declared to David that which Rizpah daughter of Aiah, concubine of Saul, hath done,

І було донесено Давидові, що зробила Ріцпа, Айїна дочка, Саулова наложниця.

12 a nd David goeth and taketh the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the possessors of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the broad place of Beth-Shan, where the Philistines hanged them, in the day of the Philistines smiting Saul in Gilboa;

А Давид пішов, і взяв кості Саула та кості сина його Йонатана від господарів ґілеадського Явешу, що викрали були їх із майдану Бет-Шану що їх повісили там филистимляни того дня, коли филистимляни побили Саула в Ґілбоа.

13 a nd he bringeth up thence the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, and they gather the bones of those hanged,

І виніс він звідти кості Саула та кості сина його Йонатана, і зібрали кості повішаних.

14 a nd bury the bones of Saul and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in Zelah, in the burying-place of Kish his father, and do all that the king commanded, and God is entreated for the land afterwards.

І поховали кості Саула та сина його Йонатана в Веніяминовому краї, в Целі, в гробі батька його Кіша. І зробили все, що наказав був цар, і потому Бог був ублаганий Краєм.

15 A nd again have the Philistines war with Israel, and David goeth down, and his servants with him, and they fight with the Philistines; and David is weary,

І була ще війна филистимлян з Ізраїлем. І зійшов Давид та з ним слуги його, і воювали з филистимлянами. І змучився Давид.

16 a nd Ishbi-Benob, who among the children of the giant -- the weight of his spear three hundred weight of brass, and he is girded with a new one -- speaketh of smiting David,

І був Ішбі в Нові, що з нащадків Рафи, а вага його списа три сотні шеклів міді, і оперезаний він був новою зброєю. І він сказав, щоб забити Давида.

17 a nd Abishai son of Zeruiah giveth help to him, and smiteth the Philistine, and putteth him to death; then swear the men of David to him, saying, `Thou dost not go out again with us to battle, nor quench the lamp of Israel.'

Та поміг йому Авішай, син Церуїн, і він ударив филистимлянина, та й забив його. Тоді Давидові люди присягли йому, говорячи: Ти не вийдеш уже з нами на війну, і не погасиш Ізраїлевого світильника!

18 A nd it cometh to pass afterwards, that the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Saph, who among the children of the giant.

І сталося потім, і була ще війна в Нові з филистимлянами. Тоді хушанин Сіббехай побив Сафа, що з нащадків Рафи.

19 A nd the battle is again in Gob with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jaare-Oregim, the Beth-Lehemite, smiteth Goliath the Gittite, and the wood of his spear like a beam of weavers.

І була ще війна в Нові з филистимлянами, і віфлеємець Елханан, син Яаре, і побив ґатянина Ґоліята, а держак списа його був, як ткацький вал.

20 A nd the battle is again in Gath, and there is a man of stature, and the fingers of his hands six, and the toes of his feet six, twenty and four in number, and he also hath been born to the giant,

І була ще війна в Ґаті. А там чоловік великого зросту, що мав на руках та на ногах по шість пальців, числом двадцять і чотири. Також і він був народжений тому Рафі.

21 a nd he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimeah, brother of David;

І зневажав він Ізраїля, та вбив його Йонатан, син Шім'ї, Давидового брата!

22 t hese four have been born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Четверо тих були народжені тому Рафі в Ґаті, і попадали вони від руки Давида та від руки його слуг.
