1 ` And these the judgments which thou dost set before them:

А оце закони, що ти викладеш перед ними:

2 ` When thou buyest a Hebrew servant -- six years he doth serve, and in the seventh he goeth out as a freeman for nought;

Коли купиш єврейського раба, нехай він працює шість років, а сьомого нехай вийде дармо на волю.

3 i f by himself he cometh in, by himself he goeth out; if he owner of a wife, then his wife hath gone out with him;

Якщо прийде він сам один, нехай сам один і вийде; коли він має жінку, то з ним вийде й жінка його.

4 i f his lord give to him a wife, and she hath borne to him sons or daughters -- the wife and her children are her lord's, and he goeth out by himself.

Якщо пан його дасть йому жінку, і вона породить йому синів або дочок, та жінка та діти її нехай будуть для пана її, а він нехай вийде сам один.

5 ` And if the servant really say: I have loved my lord, my wife, and my sons -- I do not go out free;

А якщо раб той щиро скаже: Полюбив я пана свого, жінку свою та дітей своїх, не вийду на волю,

6 t hen hath his lord brought him nigh unto God, and hath brought him nigh unto the door, or unto the side-post, and his lord hath bored his ear with an awl, and he hath served him -- to the age.

то нехай його пан приведе його до суддів, і підведе його до дверей або до бічних одвірків, та й проколе пан його вухо йому шилом, і він буде робити йому повіки!

7 ` And when a man selleth his daughter for a handmaid, she doth not go out according to the going out of the men-servants;

А коли хто продасть дочку свою на невільницю, не вийде вона, як виходять раби.

8 i f evil in the eyes of her lord, so that he hath not betrothed her, then he hath let her be ransomed; to a strange people he hath not power to sell her, in his dealing treacherously with her.

Якщо вона невгодна в очах свого пана, який призначив був її собі, то нехай позволить її викупити. Не вільно йому продати її до народу чужого, коли зрадить її.

9 ` And if to his son he betroth her, according to the right of daughters he doth to her.

А якщо призначить її для сина свого, то зробить їй за правом дочок.

10 ` If another he take for him, her food, her covering, and her habitation, he doth not withdraw;

Якщо візьме собі іншу, то не зменшить поживи їй, одежі їй і подружнього пожиття їй.

11 a nd if these three he do not to her, then she hath gone out for nought, without money.

А коли він цих трьох речей не робитиме їй, то вона вийде дармо, без окупу.

12 ` He who smiteth a man so that he hath died, is certainly put to death;

Хто вдарить людину, і вона вмре, той конче буде забитий.

13 a s to him who hath not laid wait, and God hath brought to his hand, I have even set for thee a place whither he doth flee.

А хто не чатував, а Бог підвів кого в його руку, то дам тобі місце, куди той утече.

14 ` And when a man doth presume against his neighbour to slay him with subtilty, from Mine altar thou dost take him to die.

А коли хто буде замишляти на ближнього свого, щоб забити його з хитрістю, візьмеш його від жертівника Мого на смерть.

15 ` And he who smiteth his father or his mother is certainly put to death.

А хто вдарить батька свого чи матір свою, той конче буде забитий.

16 ` And he who stealeth a man, and hath sold him, and he hath been found in his hand, is certainly put to death.

А хто вкраде людину і продасть її, або буде вона знайдена в руках його, той конче буде забитий.

17 ` And he who is reviling his father or his mother is certainly put to death.

І хто проклинає батька свого чи свою матір, той конче буде забитий.

18 ` And when men contend, and a man hath smitten his neighbour with a stone, or with the fist, and he die not, but hath fallen on the bed;

А коли будуть сваритися люди, і вдарить один одного каменем або кулаком, і той не вмре, а зляже на постелю,

19 i f he rise, and hath gone up and down without on his staff, then hath the smiter been acquitted; only his cessation he giveth, and he is thoroughly healed.

якщо встане й буде проходжуватися надворі з опертям своїм, то буде оправданий той, хто вдарив, тільки нехай дасть за прогаяння часу його та справді вилікує.

20 ` And when a man smiteth his man-servant or his handmaid, with a rod, and he hath died under his hand -- he is certainly avenged;

А коли хто вдарить раба свого або невільницю свою києм, а той помре під рукою його, то конче буде покараний той.

21 o nly if he remain a day, or two days, he is not avenged, for he his money.

Тільки якщо той переживе день або два дні, то не буде покараний, бо він його гроші.

22 ` And when men strive, and have smitten a pregnant woman, and her children have come out, and there is no mischief, he is certainly fined, as the husband of the woman doth lay upon him, and he hath given through the judges;

А коли будуть битися люди, і вдарять вагітну жінку, і скине вона дитину, а іншого нещастя не станеться, то конче буде покараний, як покладе на нього чоловік тієї жінки, і він дасть за присудом суддів.

23 a nd if there is mischief, then thou hast given life for life,

А якщо станеться нещастя, то даси душу за душу,

24 e ye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

око за око, зуба за зуба, руку за руку, ногу за ногу,

25 b urning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

опарення за опарення, рану за рану, синяка за синяка.

26 ` And when a man smiteth the eye of his man-servant, or the eye of his handmaid, and hath destroyed it, as a freeman he doth send him away for his eye;

А коли хто вдарить в око раба свого, або в око невільниці своєї, і знищить його, той на волю відпустить його за око його.

27 a nd if a tooth of his man-servant or a tooth of his handmaid he knock out, as a freeman he doth send him away for his tooth.

А якщо виб'є зуба раба свого, або зуба невільниці своєї, той на волю відпустить того за зуба його.

28 ` And when an ox doth gore man or woman, and they have died, the ox is certainly stoned, and his flesh is not eaten, and the owner of the ox acquitted;

А коли віл ударить чоловіка або жінку, а той умре, конче буде вкаменований той віл, і м'ясо його не буде їджене, а власник того вола невинний.

29 a nd if the ox is accustomed to gore heretofore, and it hath been testified to its owner, and he doth not watch it, and it hath put to death a man or woman, the ox is stoned, and its owner also is put to death.

А якщо віл був битливим і вчора, і третього дня, і було те засвідчене у власника його, а той його не пильнував, і заб'є той віл чоловіка або жінку, буде він укаменований, а також власник буде забитий.

30 ` If atonement is laid upon him, then he hath given the ransom of his life, according to all that is laid upon him;

Якщо на нього буде накладений викуп, то дасть викупа за душу свою, скільки буде на нього накладене.

31 w hether it gore a son or gore a daughter, according to this judgment it is done to him.

Або вдарить віл сина, або вдарить дочку, буде зроблено йому за цим законом.

32 ` If the ox gore a man-servant or a handmaid, thirty silver shekels he doth give to their lord, and the ox is stoned.

Коли вдарить той віл раба або невільницю, то власник дасть панові того тридцять шеклів срібла, а віл той буде вкаменований.

33 ` And when a man doth open a pit, or when a man doth dig a pit, and doth not cover it, and an ox or ass hath fallen thither, --

А коли хто розкриє яму, або викопає яму й не закриє її, і впаде туди віл або осел,

34 t he owner of the pit doth repay, money he doth give back to its owner, and the dead is his.

власник ями відшкодує, верне гроші власникові його, а загинуле буде йому.

35 ` And when a man's ox doth smite the ox of his neighbour, and it hath died, then they have sold the living ox, and halved its money, and also the dead one they do halve;

А коли чийсь віл ударить вола його ближнього, і згине той, то продадуть вола живого, а гроші за нього поділять пополовині, і також загинулого поділять пополовині.

36 o r, it hath been known that the ox is accustomed to gore heretofore, and its owner doth not watch it, he certainly repayeth ox for ox, and the dead is his.

А коли буде відоме, що віл був битливим і вчора й третього дня, а власник його не пильнував його, то конче нехай відшкодує вола за того вола, а забитий буде йому.
