1 A nd the passover and the unleavened food were after two days, and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how, by guile, having taken hold of him, they might kill him;

За два ж дні була Пасха й Опрісноки. А первосвященики й книжники стали шукати, як би підступом взяти Його та забити.

2 a nd they said, `Not in the feast, lest there shall be a tumult of the people.'

Вони говорили: Та не в свято, щоб бува колотнеча в народі не сталась.

3 A nd he, being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, at his reclining (at meat), there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, of spikenard, very precious, and having broken the alabaster box, did pour on his head;

Коли ж Ісус був у Віфанії, у домі Симона, на проказу слабого, і сидів при столі, підійшла одна жінка, алябастрову пляшечку маючи щирого нардового дуже цінного мира. І розбила вона алябастрову пляшечку, і вилила миро на голову Йому!

4 a nd there were certain much displeased within themselves, and saying, `For what hath this waste of the ointment been made?

А дехто обурювались між собою й казали: Нащо таке марнотратство на миро?

5 f or this could have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor;' and they were murmuring at her.

Бо можна було б це миро продати більше, як за три сотні динаріїв, і вбогим роздати. І нарікали на неї.

6 A nd Jesus said, `Let her alone; why are ye giving her trouble? a good work she wrought on me;

Ісус же сказав: Залишіть її! Чого прикрість їй робите? Вона добрий учинок зробила Мені.

7 f or the poor always ye have with you, and whenever ye may will ye are able to do them good, but me ye have not always;

Бо вбогих ви маєте завжди з собою, і коли схочете, можете їм робити добро, Мене ж не постійно ви маєте.

8 w hat she could she did, she anticipated to anoint my body for the embalming.

Що могла, те зробила вона: заздалегідь намастила Моє тіло на похорон...

9 V erily I say to you, wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what also this woman did shall be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'

Поправді кажу вам: де тільки ця Євангелія проповідувана буде в цілому світі, на пам'ятку їй буде сказане й те, що зробила вона!

10 A nd Judas the Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away unto the chief priests that he might deliver him up to them,

Юда ж Іскаріотський, один із Дванадцятьох, подався до первосвящеників, щоб їм Його видати.

11 a nd having heard, they were glad, and promised to give him money, and he was seeking how, conveniently, he might deliver him up.

А вони, як почули, зраділи, і обіцяли йому срібняків за те дати. І він став вишукувати, як би слушного часу їм видати Його.

12 A nd the first day of the unleavened food, when they were killing the passover, his disciples say to him, `Where wilt thou, having gone, we may prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?'

А першого дня Опрісноків, коли пасху приношено в жертву, сказали Йому Його учні: Куди хочеш, щоб пішли й приготували ми Тобі пасху спожити?

13 A nd he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith to them, `Go ye away to the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water, follow him;

І посилає Він двох із Своїх учнів, і каже до них: Підіть до міста, і стріне вас чоловік, що нестиме в глекові воду, то йдіть за ним.

14 a nd wherever he may go in, say ye to the master of the house -- The Teacher saith, Where is the guest-chamber, where the passover, with my disciples, I may eat?

І там, куди він увійде, скажіть до господаря дому: Учитель питає: Де кімната Моя, в якій Я споживу зо Своїми учнями пасху?

15 a nd he will shew you a large upper room, furnished, prepared -- there make ready for us.'

І він вам покаже великую горницю, вистелену та готову: там приготуйте для нас.

16 A nd his disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found as he said to them, and they made ready the passover.

І учні пішли, і до міста прийшли, і знайшли, як Він їм сказав, і зачали вони пасху готувати.

17 A nd evening having come, he cometh with the twelve,

А коли настав вечір, Він приходить із Дванадцятьма.

18 a nd as they are reclining, and eating, Jesus said, `Verily I say to you -- one of you, who is eating with me -- shall deliver me up.'

І як сиділи вони при столі й споживали, промовив Ісус: Поправді кажу вам, що один з-поміж вас, який споживає зо Мною, видасть Мене...

19 A nd they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him, one by one, `Is it I?' and another, `Is it I?'

Вони зачали сумувати, і один по одному питати Його: Чи не я?

20 A nd he answering said to them, `One of the twelve who is dipping with me in the dish;

А Він їм сказав: Один із Дванадцятьох, що в миску мачає зо Мною...

21 t he Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up; good were it to him if that man had not been born.'

Людський Син справді йде, як про Нього написано; та горе тому чоловікові, що видасть він Людського Сина! Було б краще тому чоловікові, коли б він не родився!...

22 A nd as they are eating, Jesus having taken bread, having blessed, brake, and gave to them, and said, `Take, eat; this is my body.'

Як вони ж споживали, Ісус узяв хліб, і поблагословив, поламав, і дав їм, і сказав: Прийміть, споживайте, це тіло Моє!

23 A nd having taken the cup, having given thanks, he gave to them, and they drank of it -- all;

І взяв Він чашу, і, вчинивши подяку, подав їм, і пили з неї всі.

24 a nd he said to them, `This is my blood of the new covenant, which for many is being poured out;

І промовив до них: Це кров Моя Нового Заповіту, що за багатьох проливається.

25 v erily I say to you, that no more may I drink of the produce of the vine till that day when I may drink it new in the reign of God.'

Поправді кажу вам, що віднині не питиму Я від плоду виноградного до того дня, як новим буду пити його в Царстві Божім!

26 A nd having sung an hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives,

А коли відспівали вони, на гору Оливну пішли.

27 a nd Jesus saith to them -- `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night, because it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad,

Промовляє тоді їм Ісус: Усі ви спокуситесь ночі цієї, як написано: Уражу пастиря, і розпорошаться вівці!

28 b ut after my having risen I will go before you to Galilee.'

По воскресенні ж Своїм Я вас випереджу в Галілеї.

29 A nd Peter said to him, `And if all shall be stumbled, yet not I;'

І відізвався до Нього Петро: Хоч спокусяться й усі, та не я!

30 A nd Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that to-day, this night, before a cock shall crow twice, thrice thou shalt deny me.'

Ісус же йому відказав: Поправді кажу тобі, що сьогодні, цієї ось ночі, перше ніж заспіває півень двічі, відречешся ти тричі від Мене!

31 A nd he spake the more vehemently, `If it may be necessary for me to die with thee -- I will in nowise deny thee;' and in like manner also said they all.

А він ще сильніш запевняв: Коли б мені й умерти з Тобою, я не відречуся Тебе! Так же само сказали й усі...

32 A nd they come to a spot, the name of which Gethsemane, and he saith to his disciples, `Sit ye here till I may pray;'

І приходять вони до місцевости, на ім'я Гефсиманія, і каже Він учням Своїм: Посидьте ви тут, поки Я помолюся.

33 a nd he taketh Peter, and James, and John with him, and began to be amazed, and to be very heavy,

І, взявши з Собою Петра, і Якова та Івана, Він зачав сумувати й тужити...

34 a nd he saith to them, `Exceeding sorrowful is my soul -- to death; remain here, and watch.'

І сказав Він до них: Обгорнена сумом смертельним душа Моя! Залишіться тут і пильнуйте!

35 A nd having gone forward a little, he fell upon the earth, and was praying, that, if it be possible the hour may pass from him,

І Він відійшов трохи далі, припав до землі, та й благав, щоб, як можна, минула Його ця година.

36 a nd he said, `Abba, Father; all things are possible to Thee; make this cup pass from me; but, not what I will, but what Thou.'

І благав Він: Авва-Отче, Тобі все можливе: пронеси мимо Мене цю чашу!... А проте, не чого хочу Я, але чого Ти...

37 A nd he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, `Simon, thou dost sleep! thou wast not able to watch one hour!

І вернувся, і знайшов їх, що спали, та й каже Петрові: Симоне, спиш ти? Однієї години не зміг попильнувати?

38 W atch ye and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'

Пильнуйте й моліться, щоб не впасти в спокусу, бадьорий бо дух, але немічне тіло!

39 A nd again having gone away, he prayed, the same word saying;

І знову пішов і молився, те саме промовивши слово.

40 a nd having returned, he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy, and they had not known what they might answer him.

А вернувшись, ізнову знайшов їх, що спали, бо зважніли їм очі були. І не знали вони, що Йому відказати...

41 A nd he cometh the third time, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest -- it is over; the hour did come; lo, the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of the sinful;

І вернувсь Він утретє, та й каже до них: Ви ще далі спите й спочиваєте? Скінчено, надійшла та година: у руки грішникам ось видається Син Людський!...

42 r ise, we may go, lo, he who is delivering me up hath come nigh.'

Уставайте, ходім, ось наблизивсь Мій зрадник...

43 A nd immediately -- while he is yet speaking -- cometh near Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders;

І зараз, як Він ще говорив, прийшов Юда, один із Дванадцятьох, а з ним люди з мечами та киями від первосвящеників, і книжників, і старших.

44 a nd he who is delivering him up had given a token to them, saying, `Whomsoever I shall kiss, he it is, lay hold on him, and lead him away safely,'

А зрадник Його дав був знака їм, кажучи: Кого я поцілую, то Він, беріть Його, і обережно ведіть.

45 a nd having come, immediately, having gone near him, he saith, `Rabbi, Rabbi,' and kissed him.

І, прийшовши, підійшов він негайно та й каже: Учителю! І поцілував Його...

46 A nd they laid on him their hands, and kept hold on him;

Вони ж руки свої наклали на Нього, і схопили Його.

47 a nd a certain one of those standing by, having drawn the sword, struck the servant of the chief priest, and took off his ear.

А один із тих, що стояли навколо, меча вихопив та й рубонув раба первосвященика, і відтяв йому вухо.

48 A nd Jesus answering said to them, `As against a robber ye came out, with swords and sticks, to take me!

А Ісус їм промовив у відповідь: Немов на розбійника вийшли з мечами та киями, щоб узяти Мене.

49 d aily I was with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not lay hold on me -- but that the Writings may be fulfilled.'

Я щодня був із вами у храмі, навчаючи, і Мене не взяли ви. Але, щоб збулися Писання.

50 A nd having left him they all fled;

Тоді всі полишили Його й повтікали...

51 a nd a certain young man was following him, having put a linen cloth about naked body, and the young men lay hold on him,

Один же юнак, по нагому загорнений у покривало, ішов услід за Ним. І хапають його.

52 a nd he, having left the linen cloth, did flee from them naked.

Але він, покривало покинувши, утік нагий.

53 A nd they led away Jesus unto the chief priest, and come together to him do all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes;

А Ісуса вони повели до первосвященика. І зійшлися всі первосвященики й старші та книжники.

54 a nd Peter afar off did follow him, to the inside of the hall of the chief priest, and he was sitting with the officers, and warming himself near the fire.

Петро ж здалека йшов услід за Ним до середини двору первосвященика; і сидів він із службою, і грівсь при огні.

55 A nd the chief priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking against Jesus testimony -- to put him to death, and they were not finding,

А первосвященики та ввесь синедріон шукали посвідчення на Ісуса, щоб Йому заподіяти смерть, і не знаходили.

56 f or many were bearing false testimony against him, and their testimonies were not alike.

Бо багато-хто свідчив фальшиво на Нього, але не було згідних свідчень.

57 A nd certain having risen up, were bearing false testimony against him, saying --

Тоді деякі встали, і кривосвідчили супроти Нього й казали:

58 ` We heard him saying -- I will throw down this sanctuary made with hands, and by three days, another made without hands I will build;'

Ми чули, як Він говорив: Я зруйную цей храм рукотворний, і за три дні збудую інший, нерукотворний.

59 a nd neither so was their testimony alike.

Але й так не було їхнє свідчення згідне.

60 A nd the chief priest, having risen up in the midst, questioned Jesus, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! what do these testify against thee?'

Тоді встав насередині первосвященик, та й Ісуса спитав і сказав: Ти нічого не відповідаєш, що свідчать вони проти Тебе?

61 a nd he was keeping silent, and did not answer anything. Again the chief priest was questioning him, and saith to him, `Art thou the Christ -- the Son of the Blessed?'

Він же мовчав, і нічого не відповідав. Первосвященик ізнову спитав Його, до Нього говорячи: Чи Христос Ти, Син Благословенного?

62 a nd Jesus said, `I am; and ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming with the clouds, of the heaven.'

А Ісус відказав: Я! І побачите ви Сина Людського, що сидітиме по правиці сили Божої, і на хмарах небесних приходитиме!

63 A nd the chief priest, having rent his garments, saith, `What need have we yet of witnesses?

Роздер тоді первосвященик одежу свою та й сказав: На що нам ще свідки потрібні?

64 Y e heard the evil speaking, what appeareth to you?' and they all condemned him to be worthy of death,

Ви чули цю богозневагу. Як вам здається? Вони ж усі присудили, що Він умерти повинен...

65 a nd certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, `Prophesy;' and the officers were striking him with their palms.

Тоді деякі стали плювати на Нього, і закривати обличчя Йому, і бити Його та казати Йому: Пророкуй! Служба теж Його била по щоках...

66 A nd Peter being in the hall beneath, there doth come one of the maids of the chief priest,

А коли Петро був на подвір'ї надолі, приходить одна із служниць первосвященика,

67 a nd having seen Peter warming himself, having looked on him, she said, `And thou wast with Jesus of Nazareth!'

і як Петра вона вгледіла, що грівся, подивилась на нього та й каже: І ти був із Ісусом Назарянином!

68 a nd he denied, saying, `I have not known, neither do I understand what thou sayest;' and he went forth without to the porch, and a cock crew.

Він же відрікся, говорячи: Не відаю, і не розумію, що кажеш... І вийшов назовні, на переддвір'я. І заспівав тоді півень.

69 A nd the maid having seen him again, began to say to those standing near -- `This is of them;'

Служниця ж, коли його вгледіла, стала знов говорити приявним: Цей із них!

70 a nd he was again denying. And after a little again, those standing near said to Peter, `Truly thou art of them, for thou also art a Galilean, and thy speech is alike;'

І він знову відрікся. Незабаром же знов говорили приявні Петрові: Поправді, ти з них, бо ти галілеянин. Та й мова твоя така сама.

71 a nd he began to anathematize, and to swear -- `I have not known this man of whom ye speak;'

А він став клястись та божитись: Не знаю Цього Чоловіка, про Якого говорите ви!

72 a nd a second time a cock crew, and Peter remembered the saying that Jesus said to him -- `Before a cock crow twice, thou mayest deny me thrice;' and having thought thereon -- he was weeping.

І заспівав півень хвилі тієї подруге. І згадав Петро слово, що Ісус був промовив йому: Перше ніж заспіває півень двічі, відречешся ти тричі від Мене. І кинувся він, та й плакати став...
