1 A ntes de la fiesta de la Pascua, sabiendo Jesús que su hora había llegado para pasar de este mundo al Padre, habiendo amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el fin.

And before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour hath come, that he may remove out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who in the world -- to the end he loved them.

2 Y durante la cena, como ya el diablo había puesto en el corazón de Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón, el que lo entregara,

And supper being come, the devil already having put into the heart of Judas of Simon, Iscariot, that he may deliver him up,

3 J esús, sabiendo que el Padre había puesto todas las cosas en sus manos, y que de Dios había salido y a Dios volvía,

Jesus knowing that all things the Father hath given to him -- into hands, and that from God he came forth, and unto God he goeth,

4 s e levantó de la cena y se quitó su manto, y tomando una toalla, se la ciñó.

doth rise from the supper, and doth lay down his garments, and having taken a towel, he girded himself;

5 L uego echó agua en una vasija, y comenzó a lavar los pies de los discípulos y a secárselos con la toalla que tenía ceñida.

afterward he putteth water into the basin, and began to wash the feet of his disciples, and to wipe with the towel with which he was being girded.

6 E ntonces llegó a Simón Pedro. Este le dijo: Señor, ¿tú lavarme a mí los pies?

He cometh, therefore, unto Simon Peter, and that one saith to him, `Sir, thou -- dost thou wash my feet?'

7 J esús respondió, y le dijo: Ahora tú no comprendes lo que yo hago, pero lo entenderás después.

Jesus answered and said to him, `That which I do thou hast not known now, but thou shalt know after these things;'

8 P edro le contestó: ¡Jamás me lavarás los pies! Jesús le respondió: Si no te lavo, no tienes parte conmigo.

Peter saith to him, `Thou mayest not wash my feet -- to the age.' Jesus answered him, `If I may not wash thee, thou hast no part with me;'

9 S imón Pedro le dijo: Señor, entonces no sólo los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza.

Simon Peter saith to him, `Sir, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.'

10 J esús le dijo: El que se ha bañado no necesita lavarse, excepto los pies, pues está todo limpio; y vosotros estáis limpios, pero no todos.

Jesus saith to him, `He who hath been bathed hath no need save to wash his feet, but he is clean altogether; and ye are clean, but not all;'

11 P orque sabía quién le iba a entregar; por eso dijo: No todos estáis limpios. Jesús, ejemplo supremo de humildad

for he knew him who is delivering him up; because of this he said, `Ye are not all clean.'

12 E ntonces, cuando acabó de lavarles los pies, tomó su manto, y sentándose a la mesa otra vez, les dijo: ¿Sabéis lo que os he hecho?

When, therefore, he washed their feet, and took his garments, having reclined (at meat) again, he said to them, `Do ye know what I have done to you?

13 V osotros me llamáis Maestro y Señor; y tenéis razón, porque lo soy.

ye call me, The Teacher and The Lord, and ye say well, for I am;

14 P ues si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, os lavé los pies, vosotros también debéis lavaros los pies unos a otros.

if then I did wash your feet -- the Lord and the Teacher -- ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

15 P orque os he dado ejemplo, para que como yo os he hecho, vosotros también hagáis.

`For an example I gave to you, that, according as I did to you, ye also may do;

16 E n verdad, en verdad os digo: un siervo no es mayor que su señor, ni un enviado es mayor que el que lo envió.

verily, verily, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his lord, nor an apostle greater than he who sent him;

17 S i sabéis esto, seréis felices si lo practicáis.

if these things ye have known, happy are ye, if ye may do them;

18 N o hablo de todos vosotros; yo conozco a los que he escogido; pero es para que se cumpla la Escritura: “ El que come mi pan ha levantado contra mi su calcañar.”

not concerning you all do I speak; I have known whom I chose for myself; but that the Writing may be fulfilled: He who is eating the bread with me, did lift up against me his heel.

19 O s lo digo desde ahora, antes de que pase, para que cuando suceda, creáis que yo soy.

`From this time I tell you, before its coming to pass, that, when it may come to pass, ye may believe that I am;

20 E n verdad, en verdad os digo: el que recibe al que yo envíe, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió. Jesús identifica al traidor

verily, verily, I say to you, he who is receiving whomsoever I may send, doth receive me; and he who is receiving me, doth receive Him who sent me.'

21 H abiendo dicho Jesús esto, se angustió en espíritu, y testificó y dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo que uno de vosotros me entregará.

These things having said, Jesus was troubled in the spirit, and did testify, and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will deliver me up;'

22 L os discípulos se miraban unos a otros, y estaban perplejos sin saber de quién hablaba.

the disciples were looking, therefore, one at another, doubting concerning whom he speaketh.

23 U no de sus discípulos, el que Jesús amaba, estaba a la mesa reclinado en el pecho de Jesús.

And there was one of his disciples reclining (at meat) in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus was loving;

24 P or eso Simón Pedro le hizo señas, y le dijo: Di nos de quién habla.

Simon Peter, then, doth beckon to this one, to inquire who he may be concerning whom he speaketh,

25 E l, recostándose de nuevo sobre el pecho de Jesús, le dijo: Señor, ¿quién es ?

and that one having leant back on the breast of Jesus, respondeth to him, `Sir, who is it?'

26 E ntonces Jesús respondió: Es aquel a quien yo daré el bocado que voy a mojar. Y después de mojar el bocado, lo tomó y se lo dio a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote.

Jesus answereth, `That one it is to whom I, having dipped the morsel, shall give it;' and having dipped the morsel, he giveth to Judas of Simon, Iscariot.

27 Y después del bocado, Satanás entró en él. Entonces Jesús le dijo: Lo que vas a hacer, hazlo pronto.

And after the morsel, then the Adversary entered into that one, Jesus, therefore, saith to him, `What thou dost -- do quickly;'

28 P ero ninguno de los que estaban sentados a la mesa entendió por qué le dijo esto.

and none of those reclining at meat knew for what intent he said this to him,

29 P orque algunos pensaban que como Judas tenía la bolsa del dinero, Jesús le decía: Compra lo que necesitamos para la fiesta, o que diera algo a los pobres.

for certain were thinking, since Judas had the bag, that Jesus saith to him, `Buy what we have need of for the feast;' or that he may give something to the poor;

30 Y Judas, después de recibir el bocado, salió inmediatamente; y ya era de noche. Un mandamiento nuevo

having received, therefore, the morsel, that one immediately went forth, and it was night.

31 E ntonces, cuando salió, Jesús dijo: Ahora es glorificado el Hijo del Hombre, y Dios es glorificado en El.

When, therefore, he went forth, Jesus saith, `Now was the Son of Man glorified, and God was glorified in him;

32 S i Dios es glorificado en El, Dios también le glorificará en sí mismo, y le glorificará enseguida.

if God was glorified in him, God also will glorify him in Himself; yea, immediately He will glorify him.

33 H ijitos, estaré con vosotros un poco más de tiempo. Me buscaréis, y como dije a los judíos, ahora también os digo a vosotros: adonde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir.

`Little children, yet a little am I with you; ye will seek me, and, according as I said to the Jews -- Whither I go away, ye are not able to come, to you also I do say now.

34 U n mandamiento nuevo os doy: que os améis los unos a los otros; que como yo os he amado, así también os améis los unos a los otros.

`A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; according as I did love you, that ye also love one another;

35 E n esto conocerán todos que sois mis discípulos, si os tenéis amor los unos a los otros. Jesús predice la negación de Pedro

in this shall all know that ye are my disciples, if ye may have love one to another.'

36 S imón Pedro le dijo: Señor, ¿adónde vas? Jesús respondió: Adonde yo voy, tú no me puedes seguir ahora, pero me seguirás después.

Simon Peter saith to him, `Sir, whither dost thou go away?' Jesus answered him, `Whither I go away, thou art not able now to follow me, but afterward thou shalt follow me.'

37 P edro le dijo: Señor, ¿por qué no te puedo seguir ahora mismo? ¡ Yo daré mi vida por ti!

Peter saith to him, `Sir, wherefore am I not able to follow thee now? my life for thee I will lay down;'

38 J esús le respondió: ¿Tu vida darás por mí? En verdad, en verdad te digo: no cantará el gallo sin que antes me hayas negado tres veces.

Jesus answered him, `Thy life for me thou wilt lay down! verily, verily, I say to thee, a cock will not crow till thou mayest deny me thrice.'
