1 W ollte Gott, ihr hieltet mir ein wenig Torheit zugut! doch ihr haltet mir's wohl zugut.

O that ye were bearing with me a little of the folly, but ye also do bear with me:

2 D enn ich eifere um euch mit göttlichem Eifer; denn ich habe euch vertraut einem Manne, daß ich eine reine Jungfrau Christo zubrächte.

for I am zealous for you with zeal of God, for I did betroth you to one husband, a pure virgin, to present to Christ,

3 I ch fürchte aber, daß, wie die Schlange Eva verführte mit ihrer Schalkheit, also auch eure Sinne verrückt werden von der Einfalt in Christo.

and I fear, lest, as the serpent did beguile Eve in his subtilty, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that in the Christ;

4 D enn so, der da zu euch kommt, einen andern Jesus predigte, den wir nicht gepredigt haben, oder ihr einen andern Geist empfinget, den ihr nicht empfangen habt, oder ein ander Evangelium, das ihr nicht angenommen habt, so vertrüget ihr's billig.

for if, indeed, he who is coming doth preach another Jesus whom we did not preach, or another Spirit ye receive which ye did not receive, or other good news which ye did not accept -- well were ye bearing,

5 D enn ich achte, ich sei nicht weniger, als die "hohen" Apostel sind.

for I reckon that I have been nothing behind the very chiefest apostles,

6 U nd ob ich nicht kundig bin der Rede, so bin ich doch nicht unkundig der Erkenntnis. Doch ich bin bei euch allenthalben wohl bekannt.

and even if unlearned in word -- yet not in knowledge, but in every thing we were made manifest in all things to you.

7 O der habe ich gesündigt, daß ich mich erniedrigt habe, auf daß ihr erhöht würdet? Denn ich habe euch das Evangelium Gottes umsonst verkündigt

The sin did I do -- myself humbling that ye might be exalted, because freely the good news of God I did proclaim to you?

8 u nd habe andere Gemeinden beraubt und Sold von ihnen genommen, daß ich euch predigte.

other assemblies I did rob, having taken wages, for your ministration;

9 U nd da ich bei euch war gegenwärtig und Mangel hatte, war ich niemand beschwerlich. Denn mein Mangel erstatteten die Brüder, die aus Mazedonien kamen, so habe ich mich in allen Stücken euch unbeschwerlich gehalten und will auch noch mich also halten.

and being present with you, and having been in want, I was chargeable to no one, for my lack did the brethren supply -- having come from Macedonia -- and in everything burdenless to you I did keep myself, and will keep.

10 S o gewiß die Wahrheit Christi in mir ist, so soll mir dieser Ruhm in den Ländern Achajas nicht verstopft werden.

The truth of Christ is in me, because this boasting shall not be stopped in regard to me in the regions of Achaia;

11 W arum das? Daß ich euch nicht sollte liebhaben? Gott weiß es.

wherefore? because I do not love you? God hath known!

12 W as ich aber tue und tun will, das tue ich darum, daß ich die Ursache abschneide denen, die Ursache suchen, daß sie rühmen möchten, sie seien wie wir.

and what I do, I also will do, that I may cut off the occasion of those wishing an occasion, that in that which they boast they may be found according as we also;

13 D enn solche falsche Apostel und trügliche Arbeiter verstellen sich zu Christi Aposteln.

for those such false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ,

14 U nd das ist auch kein Wunder; denn er selbst, der Satan, verstellt sich zum Engel des Lichtes.

and no wonder -- for even the Adversary doth transform himself into a messenger of light;

15 D arum ist es auch nicht ein Großes, wenn sich seine Diener verstellen als Prediger der Gerechtigkeit; welcher Ende sein wird nach ihren Werken.

no great thing, then, if also his ministrants do transform themselves as ministrants of righteousness -- whose end shall be according to their works.

16 I ch sage abermals, daß nicht jemand wähne, ich sei töricht; wo aber nicht, so nehmet mich als einen Törichten, daß ich mich auch ein wenig rühme.

Again I say, may no one think me to be a fool; and if otherwise, even as a fool receive me, that I also a little may boast.

17 W as ich jetzt rede, das rede ich nicht als im HERRN, sondern als in der Torheit, dieweil wir in das Rühmen gekommen sind.

That which I speak, I speak not according to the Lord, but as in foolishness, in this the confidence of boasting;

18 S intemal viele sich rühmen nach dem Fleisch, will ich mich auch rühmen.

since many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast:

19 D enn ihr vertraget gern die Narren, dieweil ihr klug seid.

for gladly do ye bear with the fools -- being wise,

20 I hr vertraget, so euch jemand zu Knechten macht, so euch jemand schindet, so euch jemand gefangennimmt, so jemand euch trotzt, so euch jemand ins Angesicht streicht.

for ye bear, if any one is bringing you under bondage, if any one doth devour, if any one doth take away, if any one doth exalt himself, if any one on the face doth smite you;

21 D as sage ich nach der Unehre, als wären wir schwach geworden. Worauf aber jemand kühn ist (ich rede in Torheit!), darauf bin ich auch kühn.

in reference to dishonour I speak, how that we were weak, and in whatever any one is bold -- in foolishness I say -- I also am bold.

22 S ie sind Hebräer? Ich auch! Sie sind Israeliter? Ich auch! Sie sind Abrahams Same? Ich auch!

Hebrews are they? I also! Israelites are they? I also! seed of Abraham are they? I also!

23 S ie sind Diener Christi? Ich rede töricht: Ich bin's wohl mehr: Ich habe mehr gearbeitet, ich habe mehr Schläge erlitten, bin öfter gefangen, oft in Todesnöten gewesen;

ministrants of Christ are they? -- as beside myself I speak -- I more; in labours more abundantly, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths many times;

24 v on den Juden habe ich fünfmal empfangen vierzig Streiche weniger eins;

from Jews five times forty save one I did receive;

25 i ch bin dreimal gestäupt, einmal gesteinigt, dreimal Schiffbruch erlitten, Tag und Nacht habe ich zugebracht in der Tiefe des Meers;

thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice was I shipwrecked, a night and a day in the deep I have passed;

26 i ch bin oft gereist, ich bin in Gefahr gewesen durch die Flüsse, in Gefahr durch die Mörder, in Gefahr unter den Juden, in Gefahr unter den Heiden, in Gefahr in den Städten, in Gefahr in der Wüste, in Gefahr auf dem Meer, in Gefahr unter den falschen Brüdern;

journeyings many times, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from kindred, perils from nations, perils in city, perils in wilderness, perils in sea, perils among false brethren;

27 i n Mühe und Arbeit, in viel Wachen, in Hunger und Durst, in viel Fasten, in Frost und Blöße;

in laboriousness and painfulness, in watchings many times, in hunger and thirst, in fastings many times, in cold and nakedness;

28 a ußer was sich sonst zuträgt, nämlich, daß ich täglich werde angelaufen und trage Sorge für alle Gemeinden.

apart from the things without -- the crowding upon me that is daily -- the care of all the assemblies.

29 W er ist schwach, und ich werde nicht schwach? Wer wird geärgert, und ich brenne nicht?

Who is infirm, and I am not infirm? who is stumbled, and I am not fired;

30 S o ich mich ja rühmen soll, will ich mich meiner Schwachheit rühmen.

if to boast it behoveth, of the things of my infirmity I will boast;

31 G ott und der Vater unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, welcher sei gelobt in Ewigkeit, weiß, daß ich nicht lüge.

the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ -- who is blessed to the ages -- hath known that I do not lie! --

32 Z u Damaskus verwahrte der Landpfleger des Königs Aretas die Stadt der Damasker und wollte mich greifen,

In Damascus the ethnarch of Aretas the king was watching the city of the Damascenes, wishing to seize me,

33 u nd ich ward in einem Korbe zum Fenster hinaus durch die Mauer niedergelassen und entrann aus seinen Händen.

and through a window in a rope basket I was let down, through the wall, and fled out of his hands.
