1 E l Señor Jehová me hizo ver esto: He aquí que él criaba langostas cuando comenzaba a crecer el heno tardío, el heno tardío después de las siegas del rey.

Thus hath the Lord Jehovah shewed me, and lo, He is forming locusts at the beginning of the ascending of the latter growth, and lo, the latter growth after the mowings of the king;

2 Y aconteció que cuando acabaron de comer la hierba de la tierra, yo dije: Señor Jehová, perdona ahora; ¿quién sostendrá a Jacob?, porque es pequeño.

and it hath come to pass, when it hath finished to consume the herb of the land, that I say: `Lord Jehovah, forgive, I pray Thee, How doth Jacob arise -- for he small?'

3 S e arrepintió Jehová de esto: No será así, dijo Jehová.

Jehovah hath repented of this, `It shall not be,' said Jehovah.

4 J ehová el Señor me hizo ver esto: He aquí que el Señor Jehová convocaba para castigar por fuego; y consumió el gran abismo, y consumió también una parte de la tierra.

Thus hath the Lord Jehovah shewed me, and lo, the Lord Jehovah is calling to contend by fire, and it consumeth the great deep, yea, it hath consumed the portion, and I say:

5 Y dije: Señor Jehová, cesa ahora; ¿quién sostendrá a Jacob?, porque es pequeño.

`Lord Jehovah, cease, I pray Thee, How doth Jacob arise -- for he small?'

6 S e arrepintió Jehová de esto, y dijo Jehová el Señor: No será esto tampoco.

Jehovah hath repented of this, `It also shall not be,' said the Lord Jehovah.

7 M e enseñó luego esto: He aquí que el Señor estaba sobre un muro hecho a plomo, y tenía en su mano una plomada de albañil.

Thus hath He shewed me, and lo, the Lord is standing by a wall a plumb-line, and in His hand a plumb-line;

8 J ehová entonces me dijo: ¿Qué ves, Amós? Yo respondí: Una plomada de albañil. Y el Señor dijo: He aquí, yo pongo la plomada en medio de mi pueblo Israel; no lo toleraré más.

and Jehovah saith unto me, `What art thou seeing, Amos?' And I say, `A plumb-line;' and the Lord saith: `Lo, I am setting a plumb-line in the midst of My people Israel, I do not add any more to pass over to it.

9 L os lugares altos de Isaac serán destruidos, y los santuarios de Israel serán asolados, y me alzaré con la espada contra la casa de Jeroboam. Amós y Amasías

And desolated have been high places of Isaac, And sanctuaries of Israel are wasted, And I have risen against the house of Jeroboam with a sword.'

10 E ntonces el sacerdote Amasías de Betel envió a decir a Jeroboam, rey de Israel: Amós se ha levantado contra ti en medio de la casa de Israel; la tierra no puede soportar todas sus palabras.

And Amaziah priest of Beth-El sendeth unto Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, `Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words,

11 P orque así ha dicho Amós: Jeroboam morirá a espada, e Israel será llevado de su tierra en cautiverio.

for thus said Amos: By sword die doth Jeroboam, And Israel certainly removeth from off its land.'

12 Y Amasías dijo a Amós: Vidente, vete, huye a la tierra de Judá, y come allí tu pan, y profetiza allí;

And Amaziah saith unto Amos, `Seer, go flee for thee unto the land of Judah, and eat there bread, and there thou dost prophesy;

13 y no profetices más en Betel, porque es santuario del rey, y capital del reino.

and Beth-El do not add to prophesy any more, for it the king's sanctuary, and it the royal house.'

14 E ntonces respondió Amós, y dijo a Amasías: No soy profeta, ni soy hijo de profeta, sino que soy boyero, y cultivador de sicómoros.

And Amos answereth and saith unto Amaziah, `I no prophet, nor a prophet's son I, but a herdsman I, and a cultivator of sycamores,

15 Y Jehová me tomó de detrás del ganado, y me dijo: Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel.

and Jehovah taketh me from after the flock, and Jehovah saith unto me, Go, prophesy unto My people Israel.

16 A hora, pues, escucha una palabra de Jehová. Tú dices: No profetices contra Israel, ni vaticines contra la casa de Isaac.

And now, hear a word of Jehovah: thou art saying, Do not prophesy against Israel, nor drop against the house of Isaac,

17 P ues bien, así dice Jehová: Tu mujer será obligada a prostituirse en medio de la ciudad, y tus hijos y tus hijas caerán a espada, y tu tierra será repartida por suertes; y tú morirás en tierra inmunda, e Israel será llevado cautivo lejos de su tierra.

therefore thus said Jehovah: Thy wife in the city doth go a-whoring, And thy sons and thy daughters by sword do fall, And thy land by line is apportioned, And thou on an unclean land diest, And Israel certainly removeth from off its land.'
