1 R espondió entonces Job, y dijo:

And Job answereth and saith: --

2 ¿ Hasta cuándo angustiaréis mi alma, Y me moleréis con palabras?

Till when do ye afflict my soul, And bruise me with words?

3 Y a me habéis vituperado diez veces; No os avergonzáis de injuriarme.

These ten times ye put me to shame, ye blush not. Ye make yourselves strange to me --

4 A un si fuese verdad que yo haya errado, Sobre mí recaería mi error.

And also -- truly, I have erred, With me doth my error remain.

5 P ero si vosotros os hacéis el grande contra mí, Y contra mí alegáis mi oprobio,

If, truly, over me ye magnify yourselves, And decide against me my reproach;

6 S abed ahora que Dios es quien me ha derribado, Y me ha envuelto en su red.

Know now, that God turned me upside down, And His net against me hath set round,

7 H e aquí, yo clamaré: ¡violencia!, y no seré oído; Daré voces, y no habrá justicia.

Lo, I cry out -- violence, and am not answered, I cry aloud, and there is no judgment.

8 C ercó de vallado mi camino, y no pasaré; Y sobre mis veredas puso tinieblas.

My way He hedged up, and I pass not over, And on my paths darkness He placeth.

9 M e ha despojado de mi gloria, Y quitado la corona de mi cabeza.

Mine honour from off me He hath stripped, And He turneth the crown from my head.

10 D emolió mis muros por todos lados, y perezco; Y ha descuajado mi esperanza como árbol arrancado.

He breaketh me down round about, and I go, And removeth like a tree my hope.

11 H izo arder contra mí su furor, Y me contó para sí entre sus enemigos.

And He kindleth against me His anger, And reckoneth me to Him as His adversaries.

12 V inieron sus ejércitos a una, y se atrincheraron en torno a mí, Y acamparon en derredor de mi tienda.

Come in do His troops together, And they raise up against me their way, And encamp round about my tent.

13 H izo alejar de mí a mis hermanos, Y mis parientes como extraños se apartaron de mí.

My brethren from me He hath put far off, And mine acquaintances surely Have been estranged from me.

14 M is vecinos se alejaron, Y mis conocidos se olvidaron de mí.

Ceased have my neighbours And my familiar friends have forgotten me,

15 L os servidores de mi casa y mis criadas me tuvieron por extraño; Forastero fui yo a sus ojos.

Sojourners of my house and my maids, For a stranger reckon me: An alien I have been in their eyes.

16 L lamo a mi siervo, y no me responde; Con mi propia boca le suplicaba.

To my servant I have called, And he doth not answer, With my mouth I make supplication to him.

17 M i aliento le repugna a mi mujer, Y fétido soy a los hijos de mi propia madre.

My spirit is strange to my wife, And my favours to the sons of my womb.

18 A un los jovenzuelos me menosprecian; Al levantarme, se burlan de mí.

Also sucklings have despised me, I rise, and they speak against me.

19 T odos mis íntimos amigos me aborrecen, Y los que yo amaba se han vuelto contra mí.

Abominate me do all the men of my counsel, And those I have loved, Have been turned against me.

20 M i piel y mi carne se pegan a mis huesos, Y he escapado con sólo la piel de mis dientes.

To my skin and to my flesh Cleaved hath my bone, And I deliver myself with the skin of my teeth.

21 ¡ Oh, vosotros mis amigos, tened compasión de mí, tened compasión de mí! Porque la mano de Dios me ha herido.

Pity me, pity me, ye my friends, For the hand of God hath stricken against me.

22 ¿ Por qué me perseguís como lo hace Dios, Y ni aun os saciáis de mi carne?

Why do you pursue me as God? And with my flesh are not satisfied?

23 ¡ Quién me diese ahora que mis palabras fuesen escritas! ¡Quién me diese que se inscribiesen en un documento;

Who doth grant now, That my words may be written? Who doth grant that in a book they may be graven?

24 Q ue con cincel de hierro y con plomo Fuesen esculpidas en piedra para siempre!

With a pen of iron and lead -- For ever in a rock they may be hewn.

25 Y o sé que mi Redentor vive, Y al fin se levantará sobre el polvo;

That -- I have known my Redeemer, The Living and the Last, For the dust he doth rise.

26 Y después de deshecha esta mi piel, En mi carne he de ver de nuevo a Dios;

And after my skin hath compassed this, Then from my flesh I see God:

27 A l cual veré por mí mismo, Y mis ojos lo verán, y no los de otro, Aunque mi corazón desfallece dentro de mí.

Whom I -- I see on my side, And mine eyes have beheld, and not a stranger, Consumed have been my reins in my bosom.

28 M as si decís: ¿Cómo atraparle, Y qué pretexto hallaremos contra él?

But ye say, `Why do we pursue after him?' And the root of the matter hath been found in me.

29 T emed vosotros delante de la espada; Porque el furor de la espada se encenderá contra las injusticias, Para que sepáis que hay juicio.

Be ye afraid because of the sword, For furious the punishments of the sword, That ye may know that a judgment.
