1 D espués de esto, Jesús se fue al otro lado del mar de Galilea, el de Tiberias.

After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee (of Tiberias),

2 Y le seguía gran multitud, porque veían las señales que hacía en los enfermos.

and there was following him a great multitude, because they were seeing his signs that he was doing on the ailing;

3 S ubió Jesús al monte, y se sentó allí con sus discípulos.

and Jesus went up to the mount, and he was there sitting with his disciples,

4 Y estaba cerca la pascua, la fiesta de los judíos.

and the passover was nigh, the feast of the Jews.

5 C uando alzó Jesús los ojos, y vio que había venido a él gran multitud, dijo a Felipe: ¿De dónde compraremos panes para que coman éstos?

Jesus then having lifted up eyes and having seen that a great multitude doth come to him, saith unto Philip, `Whence shall we buy loaves, that these may eat?' --

6 P ero decía esto para probarle; porque él sabía lo que iba a hacer.

and this he said, trying him, for he himself had known what he was about to do.

7 F elipe le respondió: Doscientos denarios de pan no bastarán para que cada uno de ellos tome un poco.

Philip answered him, `Two hundred denaries' worth of loaves are not sufficient to them, that each of them may receive some little;'

8 U no de sus discípulos, Andrés, el hermano de Simón Pedro, le dijo:

one of his disciples -- Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter -- saith to him,

9 A quí hay un muchacho, que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pececillos; pero ¿qué es esto para tantos?

`There is one little lad here who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes, but these -- what are they to so many?'

10 E ntonces Jesús dijo: Haced recostar la gente. Y había mucha hierba en aquel lugar; y se recostaron como en número de cinco mil varones.

And Jesus said, `Make the men to sit down;' and there was much grass in the place, the men then sat down, in number, as it were, five thousand,

11 T omó Jesús aquellos panes, y habiendo dado gracias, los repartió entre los discípulos, y los discípulos entre los que estaban recostados; asimismo de los peces, cuanto querían.

and Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those reclining, in like manner, also of the little fishes as much as they wished.

12 Y cuando se saciaron, dijo a sus discípulos: Recoged los pedazos que sobraron, para que no se pierda nada.

And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, `Gather together the broken pieces that are over, that nothing may be lost;'

13 R ecogieron, pues, y llenaron doce cestas de pedazos, que de los cinco panes de cebada sobraron a los que habían comido.

they gathered together, therefore, and filled twelve hand-baskets with broken pieces, from the five barley loaves that were over to those having eaten.

14 A quellos hombres, entonces, viendo la señal que Jesús había hecho, dijeron: Éste es verdaderamente el profeta que había de venir al mundo.

The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said -- `This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;'

15 P ero Jesús, conociendo que iban a venir para apoderarse de él y hacerle rey, volvió a retirarse al monte él solo. Jesucristo anda sobre el mar

Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone.

16 A l atardecer, descendieron sus discípulos al mar,

And when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,

17 y entrando en una barca, iban cruzando el mar hacia Capernaúm. Había oscurecido ya, y Jesús no había venido a ellos.

and having entered into the boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum, and darkness had already come, and Jesus had not come unto them,

18 A demás, se levantaba el mar con un gran viento que soplaba.

the sea also -- a great wind blowing -- was being raised,

19 C uando habían remado como veinticinco o treinta estadios, vieron a Jesús que andaba sobre el mar y se acercaba a la barca; y tuvieron miedo.

having pushed onwards, therefore, about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and coming nigh to the boat, and they were afraid;

20 M as él les dijo: Yo soy; no temáis.

and he saith to them, `I am, be not afraid;'

21 Q uerían, pues, recogerlo en la barca; la cual llegó en seguida a la tierra adonde iban. La gente busca a Jesús

they were willing then to receive him into the boat, and immediately the boat came unto the land to which they were going.

22 E l día siguiente, la gente que se había quedado al otro lado del mar vio que no había habido allí más que una sola barca, y que Jesús no había entrado en ella con sus discípulos, sino que éstos se habían ido solos.

On the morrow, the multitude that was standing on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little boat there except one -- that into which his disciples entered -- and that Jesus went not in with his disciples into the little boat, but his disciples went away alone,

23 P ero otras barcas habían arribado de Tiberíades junto al lugar donde habían comido el pan después de haber dado gracias el Señor.

(and other little boats came from Tiberias, nigh the place where they did eat the bread, the Lord having given thanks),

24 C uando vio, pues, la gente que Jesús no estaba allí, ni sus discípulos, entraron en las barcas y fueron a Capernaúm, buscando a Jesús. Jesucristo, el pan de vida

when therefore the multitude saw that Jesus is not there, nor his disciples, they also themselves did enter into the boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus;

25 Y hallándole al otro lado del mar, le dijeron: Rabí, ¿cuándo llegaste acá?

and having found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, `Rabbi, when hast thou come hither?'

26 R espondió Jesús y les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo que me buscáis, no porque habéis visto señales, sino porque comisteis de los panes y os saciasteis.

Jesus answered them and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were satisfied;

27 T rabajad, no por la comida que perece, sino por la comida que permanece para vida eterna, la cual os dará el Hijo del Hombre; porque a éste acreditó con su sello Dios el Padre.

work not for the food that is perishing, but for the food that is remaining to life age-during, which the Son of Man will give to you, for him did the Father seal -- God.'

28 E ntonces le dijeron: ¿Qué debemos hacer para poner en práctica las obras de Dios?

They said therefore unto him, `What may we do that we may work the works of God?'

29 R espondió Jesús y les dijo: Esta es la obra de Dios, que creáis en el que él ha enviado.

Jesus answered and said to them, `This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.'

30 L e dijeron entonces: ¿Qué señal, pues, haces tú, para que veamos, y te creamos? ¿Qué obra haces?

They said therefore to him, `What sign, then, dost thou, that we may see and may believe thee? what dost thou work?

31 N uestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, como está escrito: Pan del cielo les dio a comer.

our fathers the manna did eat in the wilderness, according as it is having been written, Bread out of the heaven He gave them to eat.'

32 J esús, entonces, les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: No fue Moisés quien os dio el pan del cielo, sino que es mi Padre quien os da el verdadero pan del cielo.

Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread out of the heaven; but my Father doth give you the true bread out of the heaven;

33 P orque el pan de Dios es aquel que descendió del cielo y da vida al mundo.

for the bread of God is that which is coming down out of the heaven, and giving life to the world.'

34 L e dijeron, pues: Señor, danos siempre este pan.

They said, therefore, unto him, `Sir, always give us this bread.'

35 J esús les dijo: Yo soy el pan de la vida; el que a mí viene, nunca tendrá hambre; y el que en mí cree, no tendrá sed jamás.

And Jesus said to them, `I am the bread of the life; he who is coming unto me may not hunger, and he who is believing in me may not thirst -- at any time;

36 P ero ya os dije que, aunque me habéis visto, no creéis.

but I said to you, that ye also have seen me, and ye believe not;

37 T odo lo que el Padre me da, vendrá a mí; y al que a mí viene, de ningún modo le echaré fuera.

all that the Father doth give to me will come unto me; and him who is coming unto me, I may in no wise cast without,

38 P orque he descendido del cielo, no para hacer mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió.

because I have come down out of the heaven, not that I may do my will, but the will of Him who sent me.

39 Y esta es la voluntad del Padre, que me envió: Que de todo lo que me ha dado, no pierda yo nada, sino que lo resucite en el último día.

`And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that all that He hath given to me I may not lose of it, but may raise it up in the last day;

40 Y esta es la voluntad del que me ha enviado: Que todo aquel que ve al Hijo, y cree en él, tenga vida eterna; y yo le resucitaré en el último día.

and this is the will of Him who sent me, that every one who is beholding the Son, and is believing in him, may have life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day.'

41 M urmuraban entonces de él los judíos, porque había dicho: Yo soy el pan que descendió del cielo.

The Jews, therefore, were murmuring at him, because he said, `I am the bread that came down out of the heaven;'

42 Y decían: ¿No es éste Jesús, el hijo de José, cuyo padre y madre nosotros conocemos? ¿Cómo, pues, dice éste: Del cielo he descendido?

and they said, `Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then saith this one -- Out of the heaven I have come down?'

43 J esús respondió y les dijo: No murmuréis entre vosotros.

Jesus answered, therefore, and said to them, `Murmur not one with another;

44 N adie puede venir a mí, si el Padre que me envió no le atrae; y yo le resucitaré en el último día.

no one is able to come unto me, if the Father who sent me may not draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day;

45 E scrito está en los profetas: Y serán todos enseñados por Dios. Así que, todo aquel que oyó al Padre, y aprendió de él, viene a mí.

it is having been written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God; every one therefore who heard from the Father, and learned, cometh to me;

46 N o es que alguien haya visto al Padre, sino aquel que vino de parte de Dios; éste ha visto al Padre.

not that any one hath seen the Father, except he who is from God, he hath seen the Father.

47 D e cierto, de cierto os digo: El que cree en mí, tiene vida eterna.

`Verily, verily, I say to you, He who is believing in me, hath life age-during;

48 Y o soy el pan de la vida.

I am the bread of the life;

49 V uestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, y murieron.

your fathers did eat the manna in the wilderness, and they died;

50 É ste es el pan que desciende del cielo, para que coman de él y no mueran.

this is the bread that out of the heaven is coming down, that any one may eat of it, and not die.

51 Y o soy el pan vivo que descendió del cielo; si alguien come de este pan, vivirá para siempre; y el pan que yo daré es mi carne, la cual yo daré por la vida del mundo.

`I am the living bread that came down out of the heaven; if any one may eat of this bread he shall live -- to the age; and the bread also that I will give is my flesh, that I will give for the life of the world.'

52 E ntonces los judíos contendían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Cómo puede éste darnos a comer su carne?

The Jews, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, `How is this one able to give us flesh to eat?'

53 J esús les dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Si no coméis la carne del Hijo del Hombre, y bebéis su sangre, no tenéis vida en vosotros.

Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, If ye may not eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and may not drink his blood, ye have no life in yourselves;

54 E l que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, tiene vida eterna; y yo le resucitaré en el último día.

he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, hath life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day;

55 P orque mi carne es verdadera comida, y mi sangre es verdadera bebida.

for my flesh truly is food, and my blood truly is drink;

56 E l que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, permanece en mi, y yo en él.

he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, doth remain in me, and I in him.

57 C omo me envió el Padre viviente, y yo vivo por medio del Padre, asimismo el que me come, él también vivirá por medio de mí.

`According as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, he also who is eating me, even that one shall live because of me;

58 É ste es el pan que descendió del cielo; no como comieron vuestros padres el maná, y murieron; el que come de este pan, vivirá eternamente.

this is the bread that came down out of the heaven; not as your fathers did eat the manna, and died; he who is eating this bread shall live -- to the age.'

59 E stas cosas dijo en la sinagoga, enseñando en Capernaúm. Palabras de vida eterna

These things he said in a synagogue, teaching in Capernaum;

60 A l oírlas, muchos de sus discípulos dijeron: Dura es esta palabra; ¿quién la puede oír?

many, therefore, of his disciples having heard, said, `This word is hard; who is able to hear it?'

61 S abiendo Jesús en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, les dijo: ¿Esto os ofende?

And Jesus having known in himself that his disciples are murmuring about this, said to them, `Doth this stumble you?

62 ¿ Pues qué, si vieseis al Hijo del Hombre subir adonde estaba primero?

if then ye may behold the Son of Man going up where he was before?

63 E l espíritu es el que da vida; la carne no aprovecha para nada; las palabras que yo os he hablado son espíritu y son vida.

the spirit it is that is giving life; the flesh doth not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life;

64 P ero hay algunos de vosotros que no creen. Porque Jesús sabía desde el principio quiénes eran los que no creían, y quién le había de entregar.

but there are certain of you who do not believe;' for Jesus had known from the beginning who they are who are not believing, and who is he who will deliver him up,

65 Y siguió diciendo: Por eso os he dicho que nadie puede venir a mí, si no le ha sido dado del Padre.

and he said, `Because of this I have said to you -- No one is able to come unto me, if it may not have been given him from my Father.'

66 D esde entonces muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás, y ya no andaban con él.

From this many of his disciples went away backward, and were no more walking with him,

67 D ijo entonces Jesús a los doce: ¿Queréis acaso iros también vosotros?

Jesus, therefore, said to the twelve, `Do ye also wish to go away?'

68 L e respondió Simón Pedro: Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna.

Simon Peter, therefore, answered him, `Sir, unto whom shall we go? thou hast sayings of life age-during;

69 Y nosotros hemos creído y conocemos que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente.

and we have believed, and we have known, that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.'

70 J esús les respondió: ¿No os he escogido yo a vosotros los doce, y uno de vosotros es diablo?

Jesus answered them, `Did not I choose you -- the twelve? and of you -- one is a devil.

71 S e refería a Judas Iscariote, hijo de Simón; porque éste era el que le iba a entregar, siendo uno de los doce.

And he spake of Judas, Simon's, Iscariot, for he was about to deliver him up, being one of the twelve.
