1 H abiendo dicho estas cosas, salió Jesús con sus discípulos hacia el otro lado del torrente de Cedrón, donde había un huerto, en el cual entró él y sus discípulos.

These things having said, Jesus went forth with his disciples beyond the brook of Kedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples,

2 Y también Judas, el que le entregaba, conocía aquel lugar, porque Jesús se había reunido allí muchas veces con sus discípulos.

and Judas also, who delivered him up, had known the place, because many times did Jesus assemble there with his disciples.

3 J udas, pues, tomando una compañía de soldados, y alguaciles de los principales sacerdotes y de los fariseos, fue allí con linternas y antorchas, y con armas.

Judas, therefore, having taken the band and officers out of the chief priests and Pharisees, doth come thither with torches and lamps, and weapons;

4 P ero Jesús, sabiendo todas las cosas que le habían de sobrevenir, se adelantó y les dijo: ¿A quién buscáis?

Jesus, therefore, knowing all things that are coming upon him, having gone forth, said to them, `Whom do ye seek?'

5 L e respondieron: A Jesús nazareno. Jesús les dijo: Yo soy. Y estaba también con ellos Judas, el que le entregaba.

they answered him, `Jesus the Nazarene;' Jesus saith to them, `I am;' -- and Judas who delivered him up was standing with them; --

6 C uando les dijo: Yo soy, retrocedieron, y cayeron en tierra.

when, therefore, he said to them -- `I am,' they went away backward, and fell to the ground.

7 V olvió, pues, a preguntarles: ¿A quién buscáis? Y ellos dijeron: A Jesús nazareno.

Again, therefore, he questioned them, `Whom do ye seek?' and they said, `Jesus the Nazarene;'

8 R espondió Jesús: Os he dicho que yo soy; pues si me buscáis a mí, dejad ir a éstos;

Jesus answered, `I said to you that I am; if, then, me ye seek, suffer these to go away;'

9 p ara que se cumpliese aquello que había dicho: De los que me diste, no perdí ninguno.

that the word might be fulfilled that he said -- `Those whom Thou hast given to me, I did not lose of them even one.'

10 E ntonces Simón Pedro, que tenía una espada, la desenvainó, e hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha. Y el siervo se llamaba Malco.

Simon Peter, therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the chief priest's servant, and cut off his right ear -- and the name of the servant was Malchus --

11 J esús entonces dijo a Pedro: Mete tu espada en la vaina; la copa que el Padre me ha dado, ¿acaso no la he de beber? Jesucristo ante el sumo sacerdote

Jesus, therefore, said to Peter, `Put the sword into the sheath; the cup that the Father hath given to me, may I not drink it?'

12 E ntonces la compañía de soldados, el tribuno y los alguaciles de los judíos, prendieron a Jesús y le ataron,

The band, therefore, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took hold on Jesus, and bound him,

13 y le llevaron primeramente a Anás; porque era suegro de Caifás, que era sumo sacerdote aquel año.

and they led him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was chief priest of that year,

14 E ra Caifás el que había dado el consejo a los judíos, de que convenía que un solo hombre muriese por el pueblo. Pedro en el patio de Anás

and Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews, that it is good for one man to perish for the people.

15 Y seguían a Jesús Simón Pedro y otro discípulo. Y este discípulo era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y entró con Jesús al patio del sumo sacerdote;

And following Jesus was Simon Peter, and the other disciple, and that disciple was known to the chief priest, and he entered with Jesus to the hall of the chief priest,

16 m as Pedro estaba fuera, junto a la puerta. Salió, pues, el discípulo que era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y habló a la portera, e hizo entrar a Pedro.

and Peter was standing at the door without, therefore went forth the other disciple who was known to the chief priest, and he spake to the female keeping the door, and he brought in Peter.

17 E ntonces la criada portera dijo a Pedro: ¿No eres tú también de los discípulos de este hombre? Dijo él: No lo soy.

Then said the maid keeping the door to Peter, `Art thou also of the disciples of this man?' he saith, `I am not;'

18 Y estaban en pie los siervos y los alguaciles que habían encendido unas brasas de carbón; porque hacía frío, y se calentaban; y también con ellos estaba Pedro en pie, calentándose. Anás interroga a Jesús

and the servants and the officers were standing, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.

19 Y el sumo sacerdote preguntó a Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de su doctrina.

The chief priests, therefore, questioned Jesus concerning his disciples, and concerning his teaching;

20 J esús le respondió: Yo he hablado públicamente al mundo; siempre he enseñado en la sinagoga y en el templo, donde se reúnen todos los judíos, y nada he hablado en oculto.

Jesus answered him, `I spake freely to the world, I did always teach in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews do always come together; and in secret I spake nothing;

21 ¿ Por qué me preguntas a mí? Pregunta a los que han oído, qué les he hablado; he aquí, ellos saben lo que yo he dicho.

why me dost thou question? question those having heard what I spake to them; lo, these have known what I said.'

22 A penas dijo esto, uno de los alguaciles, que estaba allí, le dio a Jesús una bofetada, diciendo: ¿Así respondes al sumo sacerdote?

And he having said these things, one of the officers standing by did give Jesus a slap, saying, `Thus dost thou answer the chief priest?'

23 J esús le respondió: Si he hablado mal, testifica en qué está el mal; y si bien, ¿por qué me golpeas?

Jesus answered him, `If I spake ill, testify concerning the ill; and if well, why me dost thou smite?'

24 A nás entonces le envió atado a Caifás, el sumo sacerdote. Pedro niega a Jesucristo

Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the chief priest.

25 E staba, pues, Pedro en pie, calentándose. Y le dijeron: ¿No eres tú de sus discípulos? Él negó, y dijo: No lo soy.

And Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, they said then to him, `Art thou also of his disciples?' he denied, and said, `I am not.'

26 U no de los siervos del sumo sacerdote, pariente de aquel a quien Pedro había cortado la oreja, le dijo: ¿No te vi yo en el huerto con él?

One of the servants of the chief priest, being kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, saith, `Did not I see thee in the garden with him?'

27 N egó Pedro otra vez; y en seguida cantó el gallo. Jesús ante Pilato

again, therefore, Peter denied, and immediately a cock crew.

28 L levaron a Jesús de casa de Caifás al pretorio. Era de madrugada, y ellos no entraron en el pretorio para no contaminarse, y así poder comer la pascua.

They led, therefore, Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium, and it was early, and they themselves did not enter into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the passover;

29 E ntonces salió Pilato a ellos, y les dijo: ¿Qué acusación traéis contra este hombre?

Pilate, therefore, went forth unto them, and said, `What accusation do ye bring against this man?'

30 R espondieron y le dijeron: Si éste no fuera malhechor, no te lo habríamos entregado.

they answered and said to him, `If he were not an evil doer, we had not delivered him to thee.'

31 E ntonces les dijo Pilato: Tomadle vosotros, y juzgadle según vuestra ley. Y los judíos le dijeron: A nosotros no nos está permitido dar muerte a nadie;

Pilate, therefore, said to them, `Take ye him -- ye -- and according to your law judge him;' the Jews, therefore, said to him, `It is not lawful to us to put any one to death;'

32 p ara que se cumpliese la palabra que Jesús había dicho, dando a entender de qué muerte iba a morir.

that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which he said, signifying by what death he was about to die.

33 E ntonces Pilato volvió a entrar en el pretorio, y llamó a Jesús y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos?

Pilate, therefore, entered into the praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to him, `Thou art the King of the Jews?'

34 J esús le respondió: ¿Dices tú esto por ti mismo, o te lo han dicho otros de mí?

Jesus answered him, `From thyself dost thou say this? or did others say it to thee about me?'

35 P ilato le respondió: ¿Soy yo acaso judío? Tu nación, y los principales sacerdotes, te han entregado a mí. ¿Qué has hecho?

Pilate answered, `Am I a Jew? thy nation, and the chief priests did deliver thee up to me; what didst thou?'

36 R espondió Jesús: Mi reino no es de este mundo; si mi reino fuera de este mundo, mis servidores pelearían para que yo no fuera entregado a los judíos; pero mi reino no es de aquí.

Jesus answered, `My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my officers had struggled that I might not be delivered up to Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.'

37 L e dijo entonces Pilato: ¿Luego, eres tú rey? Respondió Jesús: Tú lo dices; yo soy rey. Yo para esto he nacido, y para esto he venido al mundo, para dar testimonio a la verdad. Todo aquel que es de la verdad, oye mi voz.

Pilate, therefore, said to him, `Art thou then a king?' Jesus answered, `Thou dost say; because a king I am, I for this have been born, and for this I have come to the world, that I may testify to the truth; every one who is of the truth, doth hear my voice.'

38 L e dijo Pilato: ¿Qué es verdad? Y, dicho esto, salió otra vez a los judíos, y les dijo: Yo no hallo en él ningún delito.

Pilate saith to him, `What is truth?' and this having said, again he went forth unto the Jews, and saith to them, `I do find no fault in him;

39 P ero vosotros tenéis la costumbre de que os suelte a uno en la pascua. ¿Queréis, pues, que os suelte al Rey de los judíos?

and ye have a custom that I shall release to you one in the passover; will ye, therefore, I shall release to you the king of the Jews?'

40 E ntonces todos gritaron de nuevo, diciendo: No a éste, sino a Barrabás. Y Barrabás era ladrón.

therefore they all cried out again, saying, `Not this one -- but Barabbas;' and Barabbas was a robber.
