1 H e aquí que un varón de Dios por palabra de Jehová vino de Judá a Betel; y estando Jeroboam junto al altar para quemar incienso,

And lo, a man of God hath come from Judah, by the word of Jehovah, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar -- to make perfume;

2 a quél clamó contra el altar por palabra de Jehová y dijo: Altar, altar, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que a la casa de David nacerá un hijo llamado Josías, el cual sacrificará sobre ti a los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que queman sobre ti incienso, y sobre ti quemarán huesos de hombres.

and he calleth against the altar, by the word of Jehovah, and saith, `Altar! altar! thus said Jehovah, Lo, a son is born to the house of David -- Josiah his name -- and he hath sacrificed on thee the priests of the high places who are making perfume on thee, and bones of man are burnt on thee.'

3 Y aquel mismo día dio una señal, diciendo: Esta es la señal de que Jehová ha hablado: he aquí que el altar se quebrará, y la ceniza que sobre él está se derramará.

And he hath given on that day a sign, saying, `This the sign that Jehovah hath spoken, Lo, the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth that on it.'

4 C uando el rey Jeroboam oyó la palabra del varón de Dios, que había clamado contra el altar de Betel, extendiendo su mano desde el altar, dijo: ¡Prendedle! Mas la mano que había extendido contra él, se le secó, y no la pudo enderezar.

And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the word of the man of God that he calleth against the altar in Beth-El, that Jeroboam putteth forth his hand from off the altar, saying, `Catch him;' and his hand is dried up that he hath put forth against him, and he is not able to bring it back unto him,

5 Y el altar se rompió, y se derramó la ceniza del altar, conforme a la señal que el varón de Dios había dado por palabra de Jehová.

and the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of Jehovah.

6 E ntonces, respondiendo el rey, dijo al varón de Dios: Te pido que ruegues ante la presencia de Jehová tu Dios, y ores por mí, para que mi mano me sea restaurada. Y el varón de Dios oró a Jehová, y la mano del rey se le restauró, y quedó como era antes.

And the king answereth and saith unto the man of God, `Appease, I pray thee, the face of Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, and my hand doth come back unto me;' and the man of God appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and the hand of the king cometh back unto him, and it is as at the beginning.

7 Y el rey dijo al varón de Dios: Ven conmigo a casa, y comerás, y yo te daré un presente.

And the king speaketh unto the man of God, `Come in with me to the house, and refresh thyself, and I give to thee a gift.'

8 P ero el varón de Dios dijo al rey: Aunque me dieras la mitad de tu casa, no iría contigo, ni comería pan ni bebería agua en este lugar.

And the man of God saith unto the king, `If thou dost give to me the half of thine house, I do not go in with thee, nor do I eat bread, nor do I drink water, in this place;

9 P orque así me está ordenado por palabra de Jehová, diciendo: No comas pan, ni bebas agua, ni regreses por el camino que vayas.

for so He commanded me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water, nor turn back in the way that thou hast come.'

10 R egresó, pues, por otro camino, y no volvió por el camino por donde había venido a Betel.

And he goeth on in another way, and hath not turned back in the way in which he came in unto Beth-El.

11 M oraba entonces en Betel un viejo profeta, al cual vino su hijo y le contó todo lo que el varón de Dios había hecho aquel día en Betel; le contaron también a su padre las palabras que había hablado al rey.

And a certain aged prophet is dwelling in Beth-El, and his son cometh and recounteth to him all the deed that the man of God hath done to-day in Beth-El, the words that he hath spoken unto the king, -- yea, they recount them to their father.

12 Y su padre les dijo: ¿Por qué camino se fue? Y sus hijos le mostraron el camino por donde había regresado el varón de Dios que había venido de Judá.

And their father saith unto them, `Where this -- the way he hath gone?' and his sons see the way that the man of God hath gone who came from Judah.

13 Y él dijo a sus hijos: Ensilladme el asno. Y ellos le ensillaron el asno, y él lo montó.

And he saith unto his sons, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle for him the ass, and he rideth on it,

14 Y yendo tras el varón de Dios, le halló sentado debajo de una encina, y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el varón de Dios que vino de Judá? Él dijo: Yo soy.

and goeth after the man of God, and findeth him sitting under the oak, and saith unto him, `Art thou the man of God who hast come from Judah?' and he saith, `I.'

15 E ntonces le dijo: Ven conmigo a casa, y come pan.

And he saith unto him, `Come with me to the house, and eat bread.'

16 M as él respondió: No puedo volver contigo, ni iré contigo, ni tampoco comeré pan ni beberé agua contigo en este lugar.

And he saith, `I am not able to turn back with thee, and to go in with thee, nor do I eat bread or drink with thee water in this place,

17 P orque por palabra de Dios me ha sido dicho: No comas pan ni bebas agua allí, ni regreses por el camino por donde vayas.

for a word unto me by the word of Jehovah, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink there water, thou dost not turn back to go in the way in which thou camest.'

18 Y el otro le dijo, mintiéndole: Yo también soy profeta como tú, y un ángel me ha hablado por palabra de Jehová, diciendo: Tráele contigo a tu casa, para que coma pan y beba agua.

And he saith to him, `I also a prophet like thee, and a messenger spake unto me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Bring him back with thee unto thy house, and he doth eat bread and drink water;' -- he hath lied to him.

19 E ntonces volvió con él, y comió pan en su casa, y bebió agua.

And he turneth back with him, and eateth bread in his house, and drinketh water.

20 Y aconteció que estando ellos en la mesa, vino palabra de Jehová al profeta que le había hecho volver.

And it cometh to pass -- they are sitting at the table -- and a word of Jehovah is unto the prophet who brought him back,

21 Y clamó al varón de Dios que había venido de Judá, diciendo: Así dijo Jehová: Por cuanto has sido rebelde al mandato de Jehová, y no guardaste el mandamiento que Jehová tu Dios te había prescrito,

and he calleth unto the man of God who came from Judah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and hast not kept the command that Jehovah thy God charged thee,

22 s ino que volviste, y comiste pan y bebiste agua en el lugar donde Jehová te había dicho que no comieses pan ni bebieses agua, no entrará tu cuerpo en el sepulcro de tus padres.

and turnest back and dost eat bread and drink water in the place of which He said unto thee, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water -- thy carcase cometh not in unto the burying-place of thy fathers.'

23 C uando había comido pan y bebido, el que le había hecho volver le ensilló el asno.

And it cometh to pass, after his eating bread, and after his drinking, that he saddleth for him the ass, for the prophet whom he had brought back,

24 Y yéndose, le topó un león en el camino, y le mató; y su cuerpo estaba echado en el camino, y el asno junto a él, y el león también junto al cuerpo.

and he goeth, and a lion findeth him in the way, and putteth him to death, and his carcase is cast in the way, and the ass is standing near it, and the lion is standing near the carcase.

25 Y he aquí unos que pasaban, y vieron el cuerpo que estaba echado en el camino, y el león que estaba junto al cuerpo; y vinieron y lo dijeron en la ciudad donde el viejo profeta habitaba,

And lo, men are passing by, and see the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing near the carcase, and they come and speak in the city in which the old prophet is dwelling.

26 O yéndolo el profeta que le había hecho volver del camino, dijo: El varón de Dios es, que fue rebelde al mandato de Jehová; por tanto, Jehová le ha entregado al león, que le ha quebrantado y matado, conforme a la palabra de Jehová que él le dijo.

And the prophet who brought him back out of the way heareth and saith, `It the man of God who provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth him to the lion, and it destroyeth him, and putteth him to death, according to the word of Jehovah that he spake to him.'

27 Y habló a sus hijos, y les dijo: Ensilladme un asno. Y ellos se lo ensillaron.

And he speaketh unto his sons saying, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle.

28 Y él fue, y halló el cuerpo tendido en el camino, y el asno y el león que estaban junto al cuerpo; el león no había comido el cuerpo, ni dañado al asno.

And he goeth and findeth his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion are standing near the carcase -- the lion hath not eaten the carcase nor destroyed the ass.

29 E ntonces tomó el profeta el cuerpo del varón de Dios, y lo puso sobre el asno y se lo llevó. Y el profeta viejo vino a la ciudad, para endecharle y enterrarle.

And the prophet taketh up the carcase of the man of God, and placeth it on the ass, and bringeth it back, and the old prophet cometh in unto the city to mourn and to bury him,

30 Y puso el cuerpo en su sepulcro; y le endecharon, diciendo: ¡Ay, hermano mío!

and he placeth his carcase in his own grave, and they mourn for him, `Oh, my brother!'

31 Y después que le enterraron, habló a sus hijos, diciendo: Cuando yo muera, enterradme en el sepulcro en que está sepultado el varón de Dios; poned mis huesos junto a los suyos.

And it cometh to pass, after his burying him, that he speaketh unto his sons, saying, `At my death -- ye have buried me in the burying-place in which the man of God is buried; near his bones place my bones;

32 P orque sin duda vendrá lo que él dijo a voces por palabra de Jehová contra el altar que está en Betel, y contra todas las casas de los lugares altos que están en las ciudades de Samaria.

for the word certainly cometh to pass that he called by the word of Jehovah concerning the altar which Beth-El, and concerning all the houses of the high places that in cities of Samaria.'

33 C on todo esto, no se apartó Jeroboam de su mal camino, sino que volvió a hacer sacerdotes de los lugares altos de entre el pueblo, y a quien quería lo consagraba para que fuese de los sacerdotes de los lugares altos.

After this thing Jeroboam hath not turned from his evil way, and turneth back, and maketh of the extremities of the people priests of high places; he who is desirous he consecrateth his hand, and he is of the priests of the high places.

34 Y esto fue causa de pecado a la casa de Jeroboam, por lo cual fue cortada y raída de sobre la faz de la tierra.

And in this thing is the sin of the house of Jeroboam, even to cut off, and to destroy from off the face of the ground.
