1 P asados muchos días, vino palabra de Jehová a Elías en el tercer año, diciendo: Ve, muéstrate a Acab, y yo haré llover sobre la faz de la tierra.

And the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, `Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;'

2 F ue, pues, Elías a mostrarse a Acab. Y el hambre apretaba de recio en Samaria.

and Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,

3 Y Acab llamó a Abdías su mayordomo. Abdías era en gran manera temeroso de Jehová.

and Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who over the house -- and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,

4 P orque cuando Jezabel destruía a los profetas de Jehová, Abdías tomó a cien profetas y los escondió de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los sustentó con pan y agua.

and it cometh to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water --

5 D ijo, pues, Acab a Abdías: Ve por el país a todas las fuentes de aguas, y a todos los arroyos, a ver si acaso hallaremos hierba con que conservemos la vida a los caballos y a las mulas, para que no nos quedemos sin bestias.

and Ahab saith unto Obadiah, `Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.'

6 Y dividieron entre sí el país para recorrerlo; Acab fue por un camino, y Abdías fue separadamente por otro.

And they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;

7 Y yendo Abdías por el camino, se encontró con Elías; y cuando lo reconoció, se postró sobre su rostro y dijo: ¿No eres tú mi señor Elías?

and Obadiah in the way, and lo, Elijah -- to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, `Art thou he -- my lord Elijah?'

8 Y él respondió: Yo soy; ve, di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías.

And he saith to him, `I; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.'

9 P ero él dijo: ¿En qué he pecado, para que entregues a tu siervo en mano de Acab para que me mate?

And he saith, `What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab -- to put me to death?

10 V ive Jehová tu Dios, que no ha habido nación ni reino adonde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte, y todos han respondido: No está aquí; y a reinos y a naciones él ha hecho jurar que no te han hallado.

Jehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;

11 ¿ Y ahora tú dices: Vete a decir a tu amo: Aquí está Elías?

and now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;

12 A contecerá que luego que yo me haya ido, el Espíritu de Jehová te llevará adonde yo no sepa, y al venir yo y dar las nuevas a Acab, al no hallarte él, me matará; y tu siervo teme a Jehová desde su juventud.

and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.

13 ¿ No ha sido dicho a mi señor lo que hice, cuando Jezabel mataba a los profetas de Jehová; que escondí a cien varones de los profetas de Jehová de cincuenta en cincuenta en cuevas, y los mantuve con pan y agua?

`Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?

14 ¿ Y ahora dices tú: Vete a decir a tu amo: Aquí está Elías; para que él me mate?

and now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah -- and he hath slain me!'

15 Y le dijo Elías: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que hoy me mostraré a él.

And Elijah saith, `Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.'

16 E ntonces Abdías fue a encontrarse con Acab, y le dio el aviso; y Acab vino a encontrarse con Elías.

And Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,

17 C uando Acab vio a Elías, le dijo: ¿Eres tú el que perturbas a Israel?

and it cometh to pass at Ahab's seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, `Art thou he -- the troubler of Israel?'

18 Y él respondió: Yo no he perturbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, dejando los mandamientos de Jehová, y siguiendo a los baales.

And he saith, `I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;

19 E nvía, pues, ahora y congrégame a todo Israel en el monte Carmel, junto con los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal, y los cuatrocientos profetas de Aserá, que comen de la mesa de Jezabel. Elías y los profetas de Baal

and now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred -- eating at the table of Jezebel.'

20 E ntonces Acab convocó a todos los hijos de Israel, y reunió a los profetas en el monte Carmel.

And Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;

21 Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo claudicaréis vosotros entre dos pensamientos? Si Jehová es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, id en pos de él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.

and Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, `Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? -- if Jehovah God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;' and the people have not answered him a word.

22 Y Elías volvió a decir al pueblo: Sólo yo he quedado como profeta de Jehová; mas de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos cincuenta hombres.

And Elijah saith unto the people, `I -- I have been left a prophet of Jehovah -- by myself; and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty men;

23 D énsenos, pues, dos bueyes, y escojan ellos uno, y córtenlo en pedazos, y pónganlo sobre leña, pero no pongan fuego debajo; y yo prepararé el otro buey, y lo pondré sobre leña, y ningún fuego pondré debajo.

and let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place on the wood, and place no fire; and I -- I prepare the other bullock, and have put on the wood, and fire I do not place; --

24 I nvocad luego vosotros el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré el nombre de Jehová; y el Dios que responda por medio de fuego, ése sea Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Bien dicho.

and ye have called in the name of your god, and I -- I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire -- He the God.' And all the people answer and say, `Good the word.'

25 E ntonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escogeos un buey, y preparadlo vosotros primero, pues que sois los más; e invocad el nombre de vuestros dioses, mas no pongáis fuego debajo.

And Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, `Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.'

26 Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: ¡Baal, respóndenos! Pero no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entretanto, ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho.

And they take the bullock that gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, `O Baal, answer us!' and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.

27 Y aconteció al mediodía, que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo: Gritad en alta voz, porque es un dios; quizás está meditando, o tiene algún trabajo, o va de camino; tal vez duerme, y hay que despertarle.

And it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, `Call with a loud voice, for he a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.'

28 Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y se sajaban con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta chorrear la sangre sobre ellos.

And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood on them;

29 P asó el mediodía, y ellos siguieron gritando frenéticamente hasta la hora de ofrecerse el sacrificio, pero no hubo ninguna voz, ni quien escuchase ni respondiese.

and it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.

30 E ntonces dijo Elías a todo el pueblo: Acercaos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se le acercó; y él arregló el altar de Jehová que estaba arruinado.

And Elijah saith to all the people, `Come nigh unto me;' and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;

31 Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había sido dada palabra de Jehová diciendo, Israel será tu nombre,

and Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, `Israel is thy name;'

32 e dificó con las piedras un altar en el nombre de Jehová; después hizo una zanja alrededor del altar, en que cupieran dos medidas de grano.

and he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.

33 P reparó luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos, y lo puso sobre la leña.

And he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth on the wood, and saith, `Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;

34 Y dijo: Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramadla sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacedlo otra vez; y otra vez lo hicieron. Dijo aún: Hacedlo la tercera vez; y lo hicieron la tercera vez,

and he saith, `Do a second time;' and they do a second time; and he saith, `Do a third time;' and they do a third time;

35 d e manera que el agua corría alrededor del altar, y también se había llenado de agua la zanja.

and the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.

36 C uando llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto, se acercó el profeta Elías y dijo: Jehová Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.

And it cometh to pass, at the going up of the present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, `Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;

37 R espóndeme, Jehová, respóndeme, para que conozca este pueblo que tú, oh Jehová, eres el Dios, y que tú vuelves a ti el corazón de ellos.

answer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.'

38 E ntonces cayó fuego de Jehová, y consumió el holocausto, la leña, las piedras y el polvo, y aun lamió el agua que estaba en la zanja.

And there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that in the trench it hath licked up.

39 V iéndolo todo el pueblo, se postraron y dijeron: ¡Jehová es el Dios, Jehová es el Dios!

And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, `Jehovah, He the God, Jehovah, He the God.'

40 E ntonces Elías les dijo: Prended a los profetas de Baal, para que no escape ninguno. Y ellos los prendieron; y los llevó Elías al arroyo de Cisón, y allí los hizo degollar. Elías ora por lluvia

And Elijah saith to them, `Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;' and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.

41 E ntonces Elías dijo a Acab: Sube, come y bebe; porque ya se oye el rumor de una gran lluvia.

And Elijah saith to Ahab, `Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.'

42 A cab subió a comer y a beber. Y Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmel, y postrándose en tierra, puso su rostro entre las rodillas.

And Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,

43 Y dijo a su criado: Sube ahora, y mira hacia el mar. Y él subió, y miró, y dijo: No hay nada. Y él se lo volvió a decir siete veces.

and saith unto his young man, `Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;' and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, `There is nothing;' and he saith, `Turn back,' seven times.

44 A la séptima vez dijo: Yo veo una pequeña nube como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar. Y él dijo: Ve a decirle a Acab: Unce tu carro y desciende, para que la lluvia no te ataje.

And it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, `Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he saith, `Go up, say unto Ahab, `Bind -- and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.'

45 Y aconteció, estando en esto, que los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes y viento, y hubo una gran lluvia. Y subiendo Acab, vino a Jizreel.

And it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black -- thick clouds and wind -- and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,

46 Y la mano de Jehová estuvo sobre Elías, el cual ciñó sus lomos, y corrió delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jizreel.

and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.
