1 E n el mes séptimo, a los veintiún días del mes, vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo:

In the seventh, in the twenty and first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

2 H abla ahora a Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y a Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y al resto del pueblo, diciendo:

`Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:

3 ¿ Quién ha quedado entre vosotros que haya visto esta casa en su gloria primera? ¿Y cómo la veis ahora? ¿No es ella como nada delante de vuestros ojos?

Who among you hath been left that saw this house in its former honour? And what are ye seeing it now? Is it not, compared with it, as nothing in your eyes?

4 P ues ahora, Zorobabel, ten ánimo, dice Jehová; ten ánimo tú también, Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote; y cobrad ánimo, pueblo todo de la tierra, dice Jehová, y trabajad; porque yo estoy con vosotros, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

And now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye -- (for I with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --

5 S egún el pacto que hice con vosotros cuando salisteis de Egipto, así mi Espíritu estará en medio de vosotros, no temáis.

The thing that I covenanted with you, In your coming forth from Egypt, And My Spirit is remaining in your midst, fear not.

6 P orque así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: De aquí a poco yo haré temblar los cielos y la tierra, el mar y la tierra seca;

For thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Yet once more -- it a little, And I am shaking the heavens and the earth, And the sea, and the dry land,

7 y haré temblar a todas las naciones, y vendrá el Deseado de todas las naciones; y llenaré de gloria esta casa, ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos.

And I have shaken all the nations, And they have come the desire of all the nations, And I have filled this house honour, Said Jehovah of Hosts.

8 M ía es la plata, y mío es el oro, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

Mine the silver, and Mine the gold, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

9 L a gloria postrera de esta casa será mayor que la primera, ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos; y daré paz en este lugar, dice Jehová de los ejércitos. Consulta simbólica a los sacerdotes

Greater is the honour of this latter house, Than of the former, said Jehovah of Hosts, And in this place do I give peace, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.'

10 A los veinticuatro días del noveno mes, en el segundo año de Darío, vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo:

On the twenty and fourth of the ninth, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:

11 A sí dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Pregunta ahora a los sacerdotes acerca de la ley, diciendo:

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: `Ask, I pray thee, the priests the law, saying:

12 S i uno lleva carne santificada en el halda de su vestido, y con el vuelo de ella toca pan, potaje, vino, aceite o cualquier otra comida, ¿será ésta santificada? Y respondieron los sacerdotes y dijeron: No.

Lo, one doth carry holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and he hath come with his skirt against the bread, or against the pottage, or against the wine, or against the oil, or against any food -- is it holy?' And the priests answer and say, `No.'

13 Y dijo Hageo: Si un inmundo a causa del contacto con un cadáver, toca alguna cosa de éstas, ¿será inmunda? Y respondieron los sacerdotes, y dijeron: Inmunda será.

And Haggai saith, `If the unclean of body doth come against any of these, is it unclean?' And the priests answer and say, `It is unclean.'

14 E ntonces respondió Hageo y dijo: Así es este pueblo y esta gente delante de mí, dice Jehová; y asimismo toda obra de sus manos; y todo lo que aquí ofrecen es inmundo. Promesa de prosperidad agrícola

And Haggai answereth and saith, `So this people, and so this nation before Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and so every work of their hands, and that which they bring near there -- it is unclean.

15 A hora, pues, estad atentos desde este día en adelante: antes que pusieran piedra sobre piedra en el templo de Jehová, ¿qué era de vosotros?

And now, lay, I pray you, to your heart, From this day, and onwards, Before the laying of stone to stone in the temple of Jehovah.

16 D urante todo ese tiempo, venían al montón de veinte efas, y sólo había diez; venían al lagar para sacar cincuenta cántaros, y sólo había veinte.

From that time hath come to a heap of twenty, And it hath been ten, He hath come unto the wine-fat to draw out fifty purahs, And it hath been twenty.

17 O s herí con tizón, con añublo y con granizo en toda obra de vuestras manos; mas no os convertisteis a mí, dice Jehová.

I have smitten you with blasting, And with mildew, and with hail -- All the work of your hands, And there is none of you with Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

18 C onsiderad, pues, en vuestro corazón, desde este día en adelante, desde el día veinticuatro del noveno mes, desde el día que se echó el cimiento del templo de Jehová; considerad, pues, en vuestro corazón.

Set, I pray you, to your heart, from this day and onwards, from the twenty and fourth day of the ninth, even from the day that the temple of Jehovah hath been founded, set to your heart.

19 ¿ No está aún la simiente en el granero? Ni la vid, ni la higuera, ni el granado, ni el árbol de olivo han florecido todavía; mas desde este día os bendeciré. Promesa de Jehová a Zorobabel

Is the seed yet in the barn? And hitherto the vine and the fig, And the pomegranate, and the olive-tree, Have not borne -- from this day I bless.'

20 V ino por segunda vez palabra de Jehová a Hageo, a los veinticuatro días del mismo mes, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah a second time unto Haggai, on the twenty and fourth of the month, saying:

21 H abla a Zorobabel gobernador de Judá, diciendo: Yo voy a sacudir los cielos y la tierra;

`Speak unto Zerubbabel governor of Judah, saying: I am shaking the heavens and the earth,

22 y trastornaré el trono de los reinos, y destruiré la fuerza de los reinos de las naciones; volcaré los carros y los que montan en ellos, y se vendrán abajo los caballos y sus jinetes, cada cual por la espada de su hermano.

And have overturned the throne of kingdoms, And I have destroyed the strength of kingdoms of the nations, And overturned chariot and its charioteers, And come down have horses and their riders, Each by the sword of his brother.

23 E n aquel día, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, te tomaré, oh Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, siervo mío, dice Jehová, y te pondré como anillo de sellar; porque a ti te escogí, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

In that day -- an affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, I take thee, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant -- an affirmation of Jehovah, And have set thee as a signet, for on thee I have fixed, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts!
