1 P orque este Melquisedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, que salió al encuentro de Abraham cuando éste volvía de la derrota de los reyes, y le bendijo,

For this Melchisedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who did meet Abraham turning back from the smiting of the kings, and did bless him,

2 a quien asimismo dio Abraham los diezmos de todo; cuyo nombre significa primeramente Rey de justicia, y también Rey de Salem, esto es, Rey de paz;

to whom also a tenth of all did Abraham divide, (first, indeed, being interpreted, `King of righteousness,' and then also, King of Salem, which is, King of Peace,)

3 s in padre, sin madre, sin genealogía; que ni tiene principio de días, ni fin de vida, sino hecho semejante al Hijo de Dios, permanece sacerdote a perpetuidad.

without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, and being made like to the Son of God, doth remain a priest continually.

4 C onsiderad, pues, cuán grande era éste, a quien aun Abraham el patriarca dio diezmos de lo mejor del botín.

And see how great this one, to whom also a tenth Abraham the patriarch did give out of the best of the spoils,

5 Y en verdad los que de entre los hijos de Leví reciben el sacerdocio, tienen mandamiento de tomar del pueblo los diezmos según la ley, es decir, de sus hermanos, aunque éstos también hayan salido de los lomos de Abraham.

and those, indeed, out of the sons of Levi receiving the priesthood, a command have to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is, their brethren, even though they came forth out of the loins of Abraham;

6 P ero aquel cuya genealogía no es contada de entre ellos, tomó de Abraham los diezmos, y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.

and he who was not reckoned by genealogy of them, received tithes from Abraham, and him having the promises he hath blessed,

7 Y sin discusión alguna, el menor es bendecido por el mayor.

and apart from all controversy, the less by the better is blessed --

8 Y aquí ciertamente reciben los diezmos hombres mortales; pero allí, uno de quien se da testimonio de que vive.

and here, indeed, men who die do receive tithes, and there, who is testified to that he was living,

9 Y por decirlo así, por medio de Abraham pagó el diezmo también Leví, que recibe los diezmos;

and so to speak, through Abraham even Levi who is receiving tithes, hath paid tithes,

10 p orque aún estaba en los lomos de su padre cuando Melquisedec le salió al encuentro.

for he was yet in the loins of the father when Melchisedek met him.

11 S i, pues, la perfección fuera por medio del sacerdocio levítico (porque a base de él recibió el pueblo la ley), ¿qué necesidad habría aún de que se levantase otro sacerdote diferente, según el orden de Melquisedec, y que no fuese nombrado según el orden de Aarón?

If indeed, then, perfection were through the Levitical priesthood -- for the people under it had received law -- what further need, according to the order of Melchisedek, for another priest to arise, and not to be called according to the order of Aaron?

12 P orque cambiado el sacerdocio, necesariamente ocurre también cambio de ley;

for the priesthood being changed, of necessity also, of the law a change doth come,

13 p ues aquel de quien se dice esto, es de otra tribu, de la cual nadie se dedicó a oficiar en el altar.

for he of whom these things are said in another tribe hath had part, of whom no one gave attendance at the altar,

14 P orque es manifiesto que nuestro Señor surgió de Judá, de cuya tribu nada habló Moisés tocante a sacerdotes.

for evident that out of Judah hath arisen our Lord, in regard to which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

15 Y esto es aún más manifiesto, si a semejanza de Melquisedec se levanta un sacerdote diferente,

And it is yet more abundantly most evident, if according to the similitude of Melchisedek there doth arise another priest,

16 q ue haya llegado a serlo no conforme a la ley de una prescripción carnal, sino según el poder de una vida indestructible.

who came not according to the law of a fleshly command, but according to the power of an endless life,

17 P ues está atestiguado: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, Según el orden de Melquisedec.

for He doth testify -- `Thou a priest -- to the age, according to the order of Melchisedek;'

18 P ues, por un lado, queda abrogado el mandamiento anterior a causa de su debilidad e inutilidad

for a disannulling indeed doth come of the command going before because of its weakness, and unprofitableness,

19 ( pues la ley no llevó nada a la perfección), y por otro lado, se introduce una mejor esperanza, mediante la cual nos acercamos a Dios.

(for nothing did the law perfect) and the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw nigh to God.

20 Y por cuanto no fue hecho sin juramento

And inasmuch as not apart from oath, (for those indeed apart from oath are become priests,

21 ( porque los otros ciertamente fueron hechos sacerdotes sin juramento; pero éste, con el juramento del que le dijo: Juró el Señor, y no se arrepentirá: Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, Según el orden de Melquisedec),

and he with an oath through Him who is saying unto him, `The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou a priest -- to the age, according to the order of Melchisedek;')

22 t anto más ha llegado a ser Jesús fiador de un mejor pacto.

by so much of a better covenant hath Jesus become surety,

23 Y , además, los otros sacerdotes llegaron a ser muchos, debido a que la muerte les impedía continuar;

and those indeed are many who have become priests, because by death they are hindered from remaining;

24 m as éste, por cuanto permanece para siempre, tiene un sacerdocio intransferible;

and he, because of his remaining -- to the age, hath the priesthood not transient,

25 p or lo cual puede también salvar completamente a los que por medio de él se acercan a Dios, viviendo siempre para interceder por ellos.

whence also he is able to save to the very end, those coming through him unto God -- ever living to make intercession for them.

26 P orque tal sumo sacerdote nos convenía: santo, inocente, sin mancha, apartado de los pecadores, y encumbrado por encima de los cielos;

For such a chief priest did become us -- kind, harmless, undefiled, separate from the sinners, and become higher than the heavens,

27 q ue no tiene necesidad cada día, como aquellos sumos sacerdotes, de ofrecer primero sacrificios por sus propios pecados, y luego por los del pueblo; porque esto lo hizo una vez para siempre, cuando se ofreció a sí mismo.

who hath no necessity daily, as the chief priests, first for his own sins to offer up sacrifice, then for those of the people; for this he did once, having offered up himself;

28 P orque la ley constituye sumos sacerdotes a débiles hombres; pero la palabra del juramento, posterior a la ley, al Hijo, hecho perfecto para siempre.

for the law doth appoint men chief priests, having infirmity, but the word of the oath that after the law the Son -- to the age having been perfected.
