1 I srael es una frondosa viña, que da abundante fruto para sí mismo; conforme a la abundancia de su fruto, multiplicó también los altares; conforme a la bondad de su tierra, más hermosas hacía las estelas.

`An empty vine Israel, Fruit he maketh like to himself, According to the abundance of his fruit, He hath multiplied for the altars, According to the goodness of his land, They have made goodly standing-pillars.

2 S u corazón está dividido; mas ahora lo van a pagar; Jehová demolerá sus altares, destruirá sus ídolos.

Their heart hath been divided, now they are guilty, He doth break down their altars, He doth destroy their standing-pillars.

3 S eguramente dirán ahora: No tenemos rey porque no temimos a Jehová; ¿y qué podría hacer ahora el rey por nosotros?

For now they say: We have no king, Because we have not feared Jehovah, And the king -- what doth he for us?

4 H an hablado meras palabras, jurando en vano al hacer pacto; por tanto, el castigo florecerá como ajenjo en los surcos del campo.

They have spoken words, To swear falsehood in making a covenant, And flourished as a poisonous herb hath judgment, on the furrows of a field.

5 P or las becerras de Bet-aven serán atemorizados los moradores de Samaria; porque su pueblo hará duelo por el becerro, y sus sacerdotes que en él se regocijaban por su gloria, porque ha desaparecido.

For the calves of Beth-Aven fear do inhabitants of Samaria, Surely mourned on account of it hath its people, And its priests on account of it leap about, Because of its honour, for it hath removed from it,

6 T ambién él será llevado a Asiria como presente al rey vengador; Efraín será avergonzado, e Israel se cubrirá de confusión a causa de su designio.

Also it to Asshur is carried, a present to a warlike king, Shame doth Ephraim receive, And ashamed is Israel of its own counsel.

7 F ue cortada Samaria; su rey es como espuma sobre la superficie de las aguas.

Cut off is Samaria! Its king as a chip on the face of the waters.

8 Y serán destruidos los lugares altos de Aven, el pecado de Israel; espinos y cardos crecerán sobre sus altares. Entonces dirán a los montes: Cubridnos; y a los collados: Caed sobre nosotros.

And destroyed have been high places of Aven, the sin of Israel. Thorn and bramble go up on their altars, And they have said to hills, Cover us, And to heights, Fall upon us.

9 D esde los días de Guibeá has pecado, oh Israel; allí tomaron posiciones; ¿no los alcanzará la batalla en Guibeá a estos hijos de iniquidad?

From the days of Gibeah thou hast sinned, O Israel, There they have stood, Not overtake them in Gibeah doth battle, Because of sons of perverseness.

10 Y o voy a castigarlos, y los pueblos se reunirán contra ellos cuando yo los ate por su doble crimen.

When I desire, then I do bind them, And gathered against them have peoples, When they bind themselves to their two iniquities.

11 E fraín es novilla domada, que le gusta trillar, mas yo pasaré el yugo sobre su lozana cerviz; unciré al carro a Efraín; arará Judá, quebrará sus terrones Jacob.

And Ephraim a trained heifer -- loving to thresh, And I -- I have passed over on the goodness of its neck, I cause to ride Ephraim, Plough doth Judah, harrow for him doth Jacob.

12 S embrad para vosotros en justicia, segad para vosotros en misericordia; roturad el barbecho, porque es el tiempo de buscar a Jehová, hasta que venga y os enseñe justicia.

Sow for yourselves in righteousness, Reap according to loving-kindness, Till for yourselves tillage of knowledge, To seek Jehovah, Till he come and shew righteousness to you.

13 H abéis arado impiedad, y segasteis iniquidad y habéis comido fruto de mentira. Porque confiaste en tu camino y en la multitud de tus valientes;

Ye have ploughed wickedness, Perversity ye have reaped, Ye have eaten the fruit of lying, For thou hast trusted in thy way, In the abundance of thy might.

14 p or eso, en tus pueblos se levantará alboroto, y todas tus fortalezas serán destruidas, como destruyó Salmán a Bet-arbel en el día de la batalla, cuando la madre fue aplastada con los hijos.

And rise doth a tumult among thy people, And all thy fortresses are spoiled, As the spoiling of Shalman of Beth-Arbel, In a day of battle, Mother against sons dashed in pieces.

15 A sí haré a vosotros, casa de Dios, por causa de vuestra gran maldad; al rayar el alba, será del todo cortado el rey de Israel.

Thus hath Beth-El done to you, Because of the evil of your wickedness, In the dawn cut off utterly is a king of Israel!
