1 ¡ Oh gálatas insensatos!, ¿quién os fascinó para no obedecer a la verdad, a vosotros ante cuyos ojos Jesucristo fue ya presentado claramente entre vosotros como crucificado?

O thoughtless Galatians, who did bewitch you, not to obey the truth -- before whose eyes Jesus Christ was described before among you crucified?

2 E sto solo quiero averiguar de vosotros: ¿Recibisteis el Espíritu por las obras de la ley, o por el oír con fe?

this only do I wish to learn from you -- by works of law the Spirit did ye receive, or by the hearing of faith?

3 ¿ Tan necios sois? ¿Habiendo comenzado por el Espíritu, ahora vais a terminar por la carne?

so thoughtless are ye! having begun in the Spirit, now in the flesh do ye end?

4 ¿ Tantas cosas habéis padecido en vano?, si es que realmente fue en vano.

so many things did ye suffer in vain! if, indeed, even in vain.

5 A quel, pues, que os suministra el Espíritu, y realiza milagros entre vosotros, ¿lo hace por las obras de la ley, o por el oír con fe? El pacto de Dios con Abraham

He, therefore, who is supplying to you the Spirit, and working mighty acts among you -- by works of law or by the hearing of faith ?

6 T al como Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue contado por justicia.

according as Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him -- to righteousness;

7 S abed, por tanto, que los que son de fe, éstos son hijos de Abraham.

know ye, then, that those of faith -- these are sons of Abraham,

8 Y la Escritura, previendo que Dios había de justificar por la fe a los gentiles, dio de antemano la buena nueva a Abraham, diciendo: En ti serán benditas todas las naciones.

and the Writing having foreseen that by faith God doth declare righteous the nations did proclaim before the good news to Abraham --

9 D e modo que los que viven por la fe son bendecidos con el creyente Abraham.

`Blessed in thee shall be all the nations;' so that those of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham,

10 P orque todos los que dependen de las obras de la ley están bajo maldición, pues escrito está: Maldito todo aquel que no permanezca en todas las cosas escritas en el libro de la ley, para hacerlas.

for as many as are of works of law are under a curse, for it hath been written, `Cursed every one who is not remaining in all things that have been written in the Book of the Law -- to do them,'

11 Y que por la ley ninguno se justifica para con Dios, es evidente, porque: El justo por la fe vivirá;

and that in law no one is declared righteous with God, is evident, because `The righteous by faith shall live;'

12 y la ley no procede de la fe, sino que dice: El que haga estas cosas vivirá por ellas.

and the law is not by faith, but -- `The man who did them shall live in them.'

13 C risto nos redimió de la maldición de la ley, habiéndose hecho maldición por nosotros (porque está escrito: Maldito todo el que es colgado en un madero),

Christ did redeem us from the curse of the law, having become for us a curse, for it hath been written, `Cursed is every one who is hanging on a tree,'

14 p ara que en Cristo Jesús la bendición de Abraham alcanzase a los gentiles, a fin de que por medio de la fe recibiésemos la promesa del Espíritu.

that to the nations the blessing of Abraham may come in Christ Jesus, that the promise of the Spirit we may receive through the faith.

15 H ermanos, hablo en términos humanos: Un pacto, aunque sea de hombre, una vez ratificado, nadie lo invalida, ni le añade.

Brethren, as a man I say, even of man a confirmed covenant no one doth make void or doth add to,

16 A hora bien, a Abraham fueron hechas las promesas, y a su simiente. No dice: Y a las simientes, como refiriéndose a muchos, sino a uno: Y a tu simiente, la cual es Cristo.

and to Abraham were the promises spoken, and to his seed; He doth not say, `And to seeds,' as of many, but as of one, `And to thy seed,' which is Christ;

17 E sto, pues, digo: El pacto previamente ratificado por Dios para con Cristo, la ley que vino cuatrocientos treinta años después, no lo abroga como para invalidar la promesa.

and this I say, A covenant confirmed before by God to Christ, the law, that came four hundred and thirty years after, doth not set aside, to make void the promise,

18 P orque si la herencia es a base de la ley, ya no depende de la promesa; pero Dios la otorgó a Abraham mediante la promesa. El propósito de la ley

for if by law the inheritance, no more by promise, but to Abraham through promise did God grant.

19 E ntonces, ¿para qué sirve la ley? Fue añadida a causa de las transgresiones, hasta que viniese la simiente a quien estaba destinada la promesa; y fue promulgada por medio de ángeles en mano de un mediador.

Why, then, the law? on account of the transgressions it was added, till the seed might come to which the promise hath been made, having been set in order through messengers in the hand of a mediator --

20 Y el mediador no lo es de uno solo; pero Dios es uno.

and the mediator is not of one, and God is one --

21 ¿ Luego la ley es contraria a las promesas de Dios? ¡En ninguna manera! Porque si se hubiese dado una ley que pudiera vivificar, la justicia dependería realmente de la ley.

the law, then, against the promises of God? -- let it not be! for if a law was given that was able to make alive, truly by law there would have been the righteousness,

22 M as la Escritura lo encerró todo bajo pecado, para que la promesa fuese dada a los creyentes a base de la fe en Jesucristo.

but the Writing did shut up the whole under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ may be given to those believing.

23 P ero antes que viniese la fe, estábamos confinados bajo la ley, encerrados para aquella fe que iba a ser revelada.

And before the coming of the faith, under law we were being kept, shut up to the faith about to be revealed,

24 D e manera que la ley ha sido nuestro ayo hacia Cristo, a fin de que fuésemos justificados por la fe.

so that the law became our child-conductor -- to Christ, that by faith we may be declared righteous,

25 P ero venida la fe, ya no estamos bajo ayo,

and the faith having come, no more under a child-conductor are we,

26 p ues todos sois hijos de Dios mediante la fe en Cristo Jesús;

for ye are all sons of God through the faith in Christ Jesus,

27 p orque todos los que habéis sido bautizados en Cristo, os habéis revestido de Cristo.

for as many as to Christ were baptized did put on Christ;

28 Y a no hay judío ni griego; no hay esclavo ni libre; no hay varón ni mujer; porque todos vosotros sois uno en Cristo Jesús.

there is not here Jew or Greek, there is not here servant nor freeman, there is not here male and female, for all ye are one in Christ Jesus;

29 Y si vosotros sois de Cristo, entonces sois descendencia de Abraham, y herederos según la promesa.

and if ye of Christ then of Abraham ye are seed, and according to promise -- heirs.
