1 A nd Jehovah hath looked after Sarah as He hath said, and Jehovah doth to Sarah as He hath spoken;

وَأظهَرَ اللهُ نِعمَةً لِسارَةَ كَما وَعَدَ. وَعَمِلَ اللهُ مَعَها كَما سَبَقَ أنْ أعلَنَ لِزَوْجِها.

2 a nd Sarah conceiveth, and beareth a son to Abraham, to his old age, at the appointed time that God hath spoken of with him;

فَحَبِلَتْ سارَةُ وَأنجَبَتْ وَلَداً لإبْراهِيمَ فِي شَيخُوخَتِهِ. وَفِي المَوْعِدِ الَّذِي سَبَقَ أنْ حَدَّدَهُ اللهُ لَها.

3 a nd Abraham calleth the name of his son who is born to him, whom Sarah hath born to him -- Isaac;

وَسَمَّى إبْراهِيمُ ابْنَهُ الَّذِي وَلَدَتْهُ لَهُ سارَةُ إسْحاقَ.

4 a nd Abraham circumciseth Isaac his son, a son of eight days, as God hath commanded him.

وَخَتَنَ إبْراهِيمُ ابْنَهُ إسْحاقَ عِنْدَما بَلَغَ ثَمانِيَةَ أيّامٍ مِنْ عُمْرِهِ، كَما أوْصاهُ اللهُ.

5 A nd Abraham a son of a hundred years in Isaac his son being born to him,

وَكانَ عُمْرُ إبْراهِيمَ مِئَةَ سَنَةٍ عِنْدَما رُزِقَ بِابْنِهِ إسْحاقَ.

6 a nd Sarah saith, `God hath made laughter for me; every one who is hearing laugheth for me.'

فَقالَتْ سارَةُ: «لَقَدْ أضحَكَنِي اللهُ. وَكُلُّ مَنْ يَسْمَعُ عَنْ هَذا سَيَضْحَكُ مَعِي.»

7 S he saith also, `Who hath said to Abraham, Sarah hath suckled sons, that I have born a son for his old age?'

وَقالَتْ أيضاً: «مَنْ كانَ يَتَخَيَّلُ أنْ يُقالَ لإبْراهِيمَ: ‹سَتُرْضِعُ سارَةُ أطفالاً›؟ لَكِنِّي أنجَبْتُ وَلَداً لَهُ فِي شَيخُوخَتِهِ.» طردُ هاجَرَ وَإسْماعيل

8 A nd the lad groweth, and is weaned, and Abraham maketh a great banquet in the day of Isaac's being weaned;

وَكَبِرَ الطِّفلُ وَفُطِمَ. فَأقامَ إبْراهِيمُ حَفلَةً كَبِيرَةً يَوْمَ فُطِمَ إسْحاقُ.

9 a nd Sarah seeth the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she hath borne to Abraham, mocking,

وَرَأتْ سارَةُ ابْنَ هاجَرَ المِصْرِيَّةَ الَّذِي وَلَدَتْهُ لإبْراهِيمَ يُضايِقُ إسْحاقَ.

10 a nd she saith to Abraham, `Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid hath no possession with my son -- with Isaac.'

فَقالَتْ لإبْراهِيمَ: «اطرُدْ هَذِهِ الجارِيَةَ وَابْنَها بَعِيداً، لأنَّ ابْنَ هَذِهِ الجارِيَةِ لَنْ يَرِثَ مَعَ ابْنِي إسْحاقَ.»

11 A nd the thing is very wrong in the eyes of Abraham, for his son's sake;

فَساءَ هَذا الأمْرُ إبْراهِيمَ كَثِيراً بِسَبَبِ ابْنِهِ إسْماعِيلَ.

12 a nd God saith unto Abraham, `Let it not be wrong in thine eyes because of the youth, and because of thy handmaid: all that Sarah saith unto thee -- hearken to her voice, for in Isaac is a seed called to thee.

فَقالَ اللهُ لإبْراهِيمَ: «لا تَتَضايَقْ بِسَبَبِ ابْنِكَ وَجارِيَتِكَ، بَلِ افْعَلْ كُلَّ ما قالَتْهُ لَكَ سارَةُ. وَسَيَكُونُ لَكَ نَسلٌ بِواسِطَةِ إسْحَاقَ.

13 A s to the son of the handmaid also, for a nation I set him, because he thy seed.'

وَسَأجعَلُ ابْنَ الجارِيَةِ أيضاً أُمَّةً، لِأنَّهُ ابْنُكَ.»

14 A nd Abraham riseth early in the morning, and taketh bread, and a bottle of water, and giveth unto Hagar (placing on her shoulder), also the lad, and sendeth her out; and she goeth on, and goeth astray in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba;

فَقامَ إبْراهِيمُ فِي الصَّباحِ الباكِرِ، وَأخَذَ طَعاماً وَقِرْبَةَ ماءٍ وَوَضَعَهُما عَلَى كَتِفِ هاجَرَ، ثُمَّ أعطاها الوَلَدَ وَأرْسَلَهُما فِي طَرِيقِهِما. فَغادَرَتْ هاجَرُ ذَلِكَ المَكانِ، وَارْتَحَلَتْ فِي صَحْراءِ بِئْرِ السَّبْعِ.

15 a nd the water is consumed from the bottle, and she placeth the lad under one of the shrubs.

فَلَمّا نَفِذَ الماءُ مِنَ القِرْبَةِ، وَضَعَتِ الوَلَدَ تَحْتَ إحدَى الأشْجارِ.

16 A nd she goeth and sitteth by herself over-against, afar off, about a bow-shot, for she said, `Let me not look on the death of the lad;' and she sitteth over-against, and lifteth up her voice, and weepeth.

وَذَهَبَتْ لِتَجلِسَ بَعِيداً عَنْهُ، عَلَى بُعْدِ رَمْيَةِ قَوْسٍ. إذْ قالَتْ: «لا أُرِيدُ أنْ يَمُوتَ ابْنِي تَحْتَ نَظَرِي.» فَجَلَسَتْ عَلَى مَسافَةٍ، وَأخَذَتْ تَبْكِي.

17 A nd God heareth the voice of the youth; and the messenger of God calleth unto Hagar from the heavens, and saith to her, `What to thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath hearkened unto the voice of the youth where he;

فَسَمِعَ اللهُ صَوْتَ الوَلَدِ. فَنادَى مَلاكُ اللهِ هاجَرَ مِنَ السَّماءِ وَقالَ لَها: «ما لَكِ، يا هاجَرُ؟ لا تَخافِي، فَاللهُ قَدْ سَمِعَ الوَلَدَ يَبْكِي هُناكَ.

18 r ise, lift up the youth, and lay hold on him with thy hand, for for a great nation I set him.'

فَقُومِي! أنْهِضِي الوَلَدَ، وَأمْسِكِيهِ جَيِّداً مِنْ يَدِهِ. فَأنا سَأجعَلُهُ أُمَّةً عَظِيمَةً.»

19 A nd God openeth her eyes, and she seeth a well of water, and she goeth and filleth the bottle water, and causeth the youth to drink;

ثُمَّ أراها اللهُ بِئْرَ ماءٍ. فَذَهَبَتْ وَمَلأتِ القِرْبَةَ ماءً. ثُمَّ سَقَتِ الوَلَدَ.

20 a nd God is with the youth, and he groweth, and dwelleth in the wilderness, and is an archer;

وَكانَ اللهُ مَعَ الوَلَدِ حَتَّى كَبِرَ. وَسَكَنَ إسْماعِيلُ فِي الصَّحْراءِ. وَصارَ رامِيَ سِهامٍ.

21 a nd he dwelleth in the wilderness of Paran, and his mother taketh for him a wife from the land of Egypt.

وَعاشَ فِي بَرِّيَّةِ فارانَ. وَاختارَتْ لَهُ أُمُّهُ زَوْجَةً مِنْ أرْضِ مِصْرَ. عَهْدُ إبْراهيمَ وَأبِيمالِك

22 A nd it cometh to pass at that time that Abimelech speaketh -- Phichol also, head of his host -- unto Abraham, saying, `God with thee in all that thou art doing;

فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ، قالَ أبِيمالِكُ وَمَعْهُ فِيكُولُ قائِدُ جَيشِهِ لإبْراهِيمَ: «إنَّ اللهَ مَعَكَ فِي كُلِّ ما تَفعَلُهُ.

23 a nd now, swear to me by God here: thou dost not lie to me, or to my continuator, or to my successor; according to the kindness which I have done with thee thou dost with me, and with the land in which thou hast sojourned.'

فاحلِفْ لِي بِاللهِ أنَّكَ لَنْ تَلْجَأ يَوْماً إلَى الغَدْرِ فِي تَعامُلِكَ مَعِي أوْ مَعَ أبْنائِي أوْ مَعَ نَسلِي. فَكَما كُنْتُ كَرِيماً مَعَكَ، احلِفْ أنْ تَكُونَ كَرِيماً مَعِي وَمَعَ هَذِهِ الأرْضِ الَّتِي تَغَرَّبْتَ فِيها.»

24 A nd Abraham saith, `I -- I do swear.'

فَقالَ إبْراهِيمُ: «أحلِفُ.»

25 A nd Abraham reasoned with Abimelech concerning the matter of a well of water which Abimelech's servants have taken violently away,

ثُمَّ اشْتَكَى إبْراهِيمُ لِأبِيمالِكَ مِنْ أنَّ عَبِيدَهُ اسْتَولُوا عَلَى بِئْرِ ماءٍ يَخُصُّهُ.

26 a nd Abimelech saith, `I have not known who hath done this thing, and even thou didst not declare to me, and I also, I have not heard save to-day.'

فَقالَ أبِيمالِكُ: «لا أعلَمُ مَنِ الَّذِي فَعَلَ هَذا. فَأنتَ لَمْ تُخبِرْنِي فِيما مَضَى، وَلَمْ أسْمَعْ بِهَذا الأمْرِ إلّا اليَوْمَ.»

27 A nd Abraham taketh sheep and oxen, and giveth to Abimelech, and they make, both of them, a covenant;

فَأخَذَ إبْراهِيمُ غَنَماً وَبَقَراً وَأعطاها لِأبِيمالِكَ. وَقَطَعَ الاثْنانِ بَينَهُما عَهداً.

28 a nd Abraham setteth seven Lambs of the flock by themselves.

وَفَرَزَ إبْراهِيمُ سَبْعَ نِعاجٍ مِنَ القَطِيعِ.

29 A nd Abimelech saith unto Abraham, `What they -- these seven lambs which thou hast set by themselves?'

فَسَألَ أبِيمالِكُ إبْراهِيمَ: «لِماذا فِرَزْتَ هَذِهِ النِّعاجَ السَّبْعَ وَحْدَها؟»

30 A nd he saith, `For -- the seven lambs thou dost accept from my hand, so that it becometh a witness for me that I have digged this well;'

فَقالَ إبْراهِيمُ: «سَتَأْخُذُ هَذِهِ النِّعاجَ السَّبْعَ مِنِّي شَهادَةً عَلَى أنِّي حَفَرْتُ هَذَهِ البِئْرَ.»

31 t herefore hath he called that place `Beer-Sheba,' for there have both of them sworn.

فَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ سُمِّيَتْ تِلْكَ البِئْرُ بِئْرَ سَبْعٍ، لِأنَّهُما قَطَعا عَهداً وَأقْسَما هُناكَ.

32 A nd they make a covenant in Beer-Sheba, and Abimelech riseth -- Phichol also, head of his host -- and they turn back unto the land of the Philistines;

فَقَطَعا عَهْداً فِي بِئْرِ السَّبْعِ. وَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عادَ أبِيمالِكُ وَفِيكُولُ رَئِيسُ جَيشِهِ إلَى أرْضِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ.

33 a nd planteth a tamarask in Beer-Sheba, and preacheth there in the name of Jehovah, God age-during;

وَزَرَعَ إبْراهِيمُ شَجَرَةَ أثلٍ فِي بِئْرِ السَّبْعِ. وَهُناكَ صَلَّى بِاسمِ يهوه، الإلَهِ السَّرْمَدِيِّ.

34 a nd Abraham sojourneth in the land of the Philistines many days.

وَتَغَرَّبَ إبْراهِيمُ فِي أرْضِ الفِلِسْطِيِّينَ مُدَّةً طَوِيلَةً.
