1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Till when art thou mourning for Saul, and I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I send thee unto Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, for I have seen among his sons for Myself a king.

وَقالَ اللهُ لِصَمُوئِيلَ: «حَتَّى مَتَى سَتَحزَنُ عَلَى شاوُلَ؟ أنتَ مازِلْتَ حَزِيناً عَلَيهِ حَتَّى بَعدَ أنْ قُلْتُ لَكَ إنِّي رَفَضْتُهُ مَلِكاً عَلَى إسْرائِيلَ. فاملأْ قَرْنَكَ بِالزَّيتِ وَاذْهَبْ إلَى بَيتَ لَحْمَ. فَإنِّي مُرسِلُكَ إلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ سُكّانِ بَيتَ لَحْمَ اسْمُهُ يَسَّى. وَقَدِ اختَرتُ أحَدَ أبنائِهِ لِيَكُونَ مَلِكاً.»

2 A nd Samuel saith, `How do I go? when Saul hath heard, then he hath slain me.' And Jehovah saith, `A heifer of the herd thou dost take in thy hand, and hast said, To sacrifice to Jehovah I have come;

لَكِنَّ صَمُوئِيلَ قالَ: «إنْ ذَهَبتُ، سَيَسمَعُ شاوُلُ بِالخَبَرِ فَيَقتُلُنِي.» فَقالَ اللهُ: «اذْهَبْ إلَى بَيتَ لَحْمَ. وَخُذْ مَعَكَ عِجلاً وَقُلْ لَهُمْ: ‹جِئتُ لِأُقَدِّمَ للهِ ذَبِيحَةً.›

3 a nd thou hast called for Jesse in the sacrifice, and I cause thee to know that which thou dost do, and thou hast anointed to Me him of whom I speak unto thee.'

وَادعُ يَسَّى إلَى الذَّبِيحَةِ. وَبَعدَ ذَلِكَ سَأُرِيكَ ما يَنبَغِي أنْ تَفعَلَهُ. يَنْبَغِي أنْ تَمسَحَ الشَّخصَ الَّذي أُرِيكَ إيّاهُ.»

4 A nd Samuel doth that which Jehovah hath spoken, and cometh in to Beth-Lehem, and the elders of the city tremble to meet him, and saith, `Is thy coming peace?'

فَفَعَلَ صَمُوئِيلُ كَما قالَ لَهُ اللهُ. فَذَهَبَ إلَى بَيتَ لَحْمَ. فارتَعَدَ شُيُوخُ بَيتَ لَحْمَ خَوفاً. وَاستَقبَلُوا صَمُوئِيلَ وَسَألُوهُ: «هَلْ أنتَ هُنا فِي مَهَمَّةِ سَلامٍ؟»

5 a nd he saith, `Peace; to sacrifice to Jehovah I have come, sanctify yourselves, and ye have come in with me to the sacrifice;' and he sanctifieth Jesse and his sons, and calleth them to the sacrifice.

فَأجابَ: «أنا هُنا في مَهَمَّةِ سَلامٍ. فَقَدْ جِئتُ لِأُقَدِّمَ ذَبِيحَةً للهِ. طَهِّرُوا أنفُسَكُمْ وَتَعالَوا لِلاشتِراكِ فِي الذَّبِيحَةِ مَعِي.» وَطَهَّرَ صَمُوئِيلُ يَسَّى وَأولادَهُ. ثُمَّ دَعاهُمْ صَمُوئِيلُ إلَى المَجِيءٍ وَالاشتِراكِ فِي الذَّبِيحَةِ.

6 A nd it cometh to pass, in their coming in, that he seeth Eliab, and saith, `Surely, before Jehovah His anointed.'

فَلَمّا وَصَلَ يَسَّى وَأولادُهُ، رَأى صَمُوئِيلُ ألِيآبَ. فَفَكَّرَ في نَفسِهِ: «لا شَكَّ أنَّ هَذا هُوَ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِي اختارَهُ اللهُ.»

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Look not unto his appearance, and unto the height of his stature, for I have rejected him; for not as man seeth -- for man looketh at the eyes, and Jehovah looketh at the heart.'

لَكِنَّ اللهَ قالَ لِصَمُوئِيلَ: «صَحِيحٌ أنَّ أليآبَ طَوِيلٌ وَوَسِيمٌ، لَكِنْ لا تُدخِلْ هَذِهِ الأُمُورَ فِي اعتبارِكَ. فَاللهُ لا يَنظُرُ إلَى ما يَراهُ النّاسُ. هُوَ لا يَنظُرُ إلَى مَظهَرِ الإنسانِ، وَإنَّما إلَى قَلبِهِ. فَلَيسَ أليآبُ هُوَ الَّذِي اختَرتُهُ.»

8 A nd Jesse calleth unto Abinadab, and causeth him to pass by before Samuel; and he saith, `Also on this Jehovah hath not fixed.'

ثُمَّ دَعا يَسَّى ابنَهُ الثّانِي أبِينادابَ. فَمَرَّ أبِينادابُ مِنْ أمامِ صَمُوئِيلَ. فَقالَ صَمُوئِيلُ: «لا، لَيسَ هَذا هُوَ الَّذِي اختارَهُ اللهُ.»

9 A nd Jesse causeth Shammah to pass by, and he saith, `Also on this Jehovah hath not fixed.'

ثُمَّ طَلَبَ يَسَّى مِنْ شَمَّةَ أنْ يَمُرَّ مِنْ أمامِ صَمُوئِيلَ. لَكِنَّ صَمُوئِيلَ قالَ: «لَمْ يَختَرِ اللهُ هَذا الرَّجُلَ أيضاً.»

10 A nd Jesse causeth seven of his sons to pass by before Samuel, and Samuel saith to Jesse, `Jehovah hath not fixed on these.'

عَرَضَ يَسَّى أولادَهُ السَّبعَةَ لِصَمُوئِيلَ. لَكِنَّ صَمُوئِيلَ قالَ لِيَسَّى: «لَمْ يَختَرِ اللهُ أيّاً مِنْ هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالِ.»

11 A nd Samuel saith unto Jesse, `Are the young men finished?' and he saith, `Yet hath been left the youngest; and lo, he delighteth himself among the flock;' and Samuel saith unto Jesse, `Send and take him, for we do not turn round till his coming in hither.'

ثُمَّ سَألَ صَمُوئِيلُ يَسَّى: «ألَدَيكَ أولادٌ غَيرُ هَؤُلاءِ؟» فَأجابَ يَسَّى: «لَدَيَّ ابنٌ آخَرُ، هُوَ الأصغَرُ. لَكِنَّهُ في المَرعَى يَرعَى الغَنَمَ.» فَقالَ صَمُوئِيلُ: «أرسِلْ فِي طَلَبِهِ. أحضِرْهُ هُنا. فَنَحنُ لَنْ نَجلِسَ لِلطّعامِ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ.»

12 A nd he sendeth, and bringeth him in, and he ruddy, with beauty of eyes, and of good appearance; and Jehovah saith, `Rise, anoint him, for this he.'

فَأرسَلَ يَسَّى مَنْ يَستَدْعِي ابنَهُ الأصغَرَ. وَكانَ شابّاً وَسِيماً مَوفُورَ الصِّحَّةِ. فَقالَ اللهُ لِصَمُوئِيلَ: «قُمْ وَامْسَحهُ فَهُوَ الَّذِي اختَرتُهُ.»

13 A nd Samuel taketh the horn of oil, and anointeth him in the midst of his brethren, and prosper over David doth the Spirit of Jehovah from that day and onwards; and Samuel riseth and goeth to Ramath.

فَأخَذَ صَمُوئِيلُ قَرنَ الزَّيتِ وَسَكَبَ الزَّيتَ عَلَى الابنِ الأصغَرِ لِيَسَّى أمامَ إخْوَتِهِ. فَحَلَّ رُوحُ اللهِ بِقُوَّةٍ عَظِيمَةٍ عَلَى داوُدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ اليَوْمَ. ثُمَّ عادَ صَمُوئِيلُ إلَى بَيتِهِ فِي الرّامَةِ. رُوحٌ شرِّيرٌ يُضايِقُ شاوُل

14 A nd the Spirit of Jehovah turned aside from Saul, and a spirit of sadness from Jehovah terrified him;

وَتَرَكَ رُوحُ اللهِ شاوُلَ. ثُمَّ أرسَلَ اللهُ رُوحاً شِرِّيراً لِشاوُلَ، فَسَبَّبَ لَهُ إزعاجاً كَثِيراً.

15 a nd the servants of Saul say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, a spirit of sadness God is terrifying thee;

فَقالَ خُدّامُ شاوُلَ لَهُ: «إنَّ الرُّوحَ الشِّرِّيرَ الَّذِي أرسَلَهُ اللهُ يُزعِجُكَ.

16 l et our lord command, we pray thee, thy servants before thee, they seek a skilful man, playing on a harp, and it hath come to pass, in the spirit of sadness God being upon thee, that he hath played with his hand, and well with thee.'

فَإنْ أمَرتَنا فَإنَّنا نَبحَثُ لَكَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ يُحسِنُ العَزفَ عَلَى القِيثارِ. فَإذا هاجَمَكَ ذَلِكَ الرُّوحُ الشِّرِّيرُ مِنْ عِندِ اللهِ، يَعزِفُ لَكَ هَذا الرَّجُلُ مُوسِيقَى. حِينَئِذٍ، سَيَذهَبُ عَنكَ الإحساسُ بِالضِّيقِ.»

17 A nd Saul saith unto his servants, `Provide, I pray you, for me a man playing well -- then ye have brought in unto me.'

فَقالَ شاوُلُ لِخُدّامِهِ: «جِدُوا لِي شَخصاً يُحسِنُ العَزفَ وَأحضِرُوهُ لِي.»

18 A nd one of the servants answereth and saith, `Lo, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, skilful in playing, and a mighty virtuous man, and a man of battle, and intelligent in word, and a man of form, and Jehovah with him.'

فَقالَ أحَدُ الخُدّامِ: «هُناكَ رَجُلٌ اسْمُهُ يَسَّى ساكِنٌ فِي بَيتَ لَحمَ. وَأنا أعرِفُ ابنَهُ. إنَّهُ ماهِرٌ فِي العَزفِ عَلَى القِيثارِ. وَهُوَ أيضاً رَجُلٌ شُجاعٌ وَمُقاتِلٌ جَيِّدٌ. وَهُوَ ذَكِيٌّ وَوَسِيمٌ، وَ اللهُ مَعَهُ.»

19 A nd Saul sendeth messengers unto Jesse, and saith, `Send unto me David thy son, who with the flock.'

فَأرسَلَ شاوُلُ رُسُلَهُ إلَى يَسَّى. فَقالُوا لَهُ: «أرسِلْ إلَى ابنِكَ داوُدَ راعِي الغَنَمِ.»

20 A nd Jesse taketh an ass, bread, and a bottle of wine, and one kid of the goats, and sendeth by the hand of David his son unto Saul.

فَأعَدَّ يَسَّى هَدِيَّةً لِشاوُلَ، أعَدَّ حِماراً وَخُبزاً وَقِنِّينَةَ نَبِيذٍ وَجَدياً، وَأرسَلَها مَعَ داوُدَ إلَى شاوُلَ.

21 A nd David cometh in unto Saul, and standeth before him, and he loveth him greatly; and he is a bearer of his weapons.

فَذَهَبَ داوُدُ إلَى شاوُلَ وَوَقَفَ أمامَهُ، فَأحَبَّهُ شاوُلُ كَثيراً، فَجَعَلَهُ حامِلَ سِلاحِهِ.

22 A nd Saul sendeth unto Jesse, saying, `Let David, I pray thee, stand before me, for he hath found grace in mine eyes.'

وَأرسَلَ شاوُلُ رِسالَةً إلَى يَسَّى، قالَ فِيها: «دَعْ داوُدَ مَعِي لِيَخدِمَنِي، فَقَدْ أحبَبتُهُ كَثِيراً.»

23 A nd it hath come to pass, in the spirit of God being on Saul, that David hath taken the harp, and played with his hand, and Saul hath refreshment and gladness, and the spirit of sadness hath turned aside from off him.

وَكُلَّما هاجَمَ الرُّوحُ الشِّرِّيرُ مِنْ عِندِ اللهِ شاوُلَ، كانَ داوُدُ يَأْخُذُ قِيثارَهُ وَيَعزِفُ. حِينَئِذٍ، يُفارِقُهُ الرُّوحُ الشِّرِّيرُ، وَيَزُولُ عَنهُ الإحْساسُ بِالضِّيقِ.
