1 A nd Jehovah saith unto me, `Take to thee a great tablet, and write upon it with a graving tool of man, To haste spoil, enjoy prey.'

Entonces el Señor me dijo: Toma para ti una tabla grande y escribe sobre ella en caracteres comunes: Veloz es el botín, rápida la presa.

2 A nd I cause faithful witnesses to testify to me, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah son of Jeberechiah.

Y tomé conmigo como testigos fieles al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías.

3 A nd I draw near unto the prophetess, and she conceiveth, and beareth a son; and Jehovah saith unto me, `Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz,

Me acerqué a la profetisa, y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y el Señor me dijo: Ponle por nombre Maher-shalal-hash-baz;

4 f or before the youth doth know to cry, My father, and My mother, one taketh away the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria, before the king of Asshur.'

porque antes que el niño sepa clamar “padre mío” o “madre mía”, la riqueza de Damasco y el botín de Samaria serán llevados ante el rey de Asiria.

5 A nd Jehovah addeth to speak unto me again, saying:

Y volvió el Señor a hablarme de nuevo, diciendo:

6 ` Because that this people hath refused The waters of Shiloah that go softly, And is rejoicing with Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

Por cuanto este pueblo ha rehusado las aguas de Siloé que corren mansamente, y se ha regocijado en Rezín y en el hijo de Remalías,

7 T herefore, lo, the Lord is bringing up on them, The waters of the river, the mighty and the great, (The king of Asshur, and all his glory,) And it hath gone up over all its streams, And hath gone on over all its banks.

por tanto, he aquí, el Señor va a traer sobre ellos las aguas impetuosas y abundantes del Eufrates, es decir, al rey de Asiria con toda su gloria, que se saldrá de todos sus cauces y pasará sobre todas sus riberas.

8 A nd it hath passed on into Judah, It hath overflown and passed over, Unto the neck it cometh, And the stretching out of its wings Hath been the fulness of the breadth of thy land, O Emmanu-El!

Fluirá con ímpetu en Judá, inundará y seguirá adelante, hasta el cuello llegará, y la extensión de sus alas llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emmanuel.

9 B e friends, O nations, and be broken, And give ear, all ye far off ones of earth, Gird yourselves, and be broken, Gird yourselves, and be broken.

Quebrantaos, pueblos, que seréis destrozados; prestad oído, confines todos de la tierra; ceñíos, que seréis destrozados; ceñíos, que seréis destrozados.

Trazad un plan, y será frustrado; proferid una palabra, y no permanecerá, porque Dios está con nosotros.

11 F or thus hath Jehovah spoken unto me with strength of hand, and instructeth me against walking in the way of this people, saying,

Pues así me habló el Señor con gran poder y me instruyó para que no anduviera en el camino de este pueblo, diciendo:

12 ` Ye do not say, A confederacy, To all to whom this people saith, A confederacy, And its fear ye do not fear, Nor declare fearful.

No digáis: “ Es conspiración ”, a todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración, ni temáis lo que ellos temen, ni os aterroricéis.

13 J ehovah of Hosts -- Him ye do sanctify, And He your Fear, and He your Dread,

Al Señor de los ejércitos es a quien debéis tener por santo. Sea El vuestro temor, y sea El vuestro terror.

14 A nd He hath been for a sanctuary, And for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of falling, To the two houses of Israel, For a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Entonces El vendrá a ser santuario; pero piedra de tropiezo y roca de escándalo para ambas casas de Israel, y lazo y trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalén.

15 A nd many among them have stumbled and fallen, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

Muchos tropezarán allí, y caerán y serán quebrantados; serán enlazados y apresados.

16 B ind up the testimony, Seal the law among My disciples.

Ata el testimonio, sella la ley entre mis discípulos.

17 A nd I have waited for Jehovah, Who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob, And I have looked for Him.

Aguardaré al Señor que esconde su rostro de la casa de Jacob; sí, a El esperaré.

18 L o, I, and the children whom Jehovah hath given to me, for signs and for wonders in Israel, From Jehovah of Hosts, who is dwelling in Mount Zion.

He aquí, yo y los hijos que el Señor me ha dado estamos por señales y prodigios en Israel, de parte del Señor de los ejércitos que mora en el monte Sion.

19 A nd when they say unto you, `Seek unto those having familiar spirits, And unto wizards, who chatter and mutter, Doth not a people seek unto its God? -- For the living unto the dead!

Y cuando os digan: Consultad a los médium y a los adivinos que susurran y murmuran, decid: ¿No debe un pueblo consultar a su Dios ? ¿ Acaso consultará a los muertos por los vivos ?

20 T o the law and to the testimony! If not, let them say after this manner, `That there is no dawn to it.'

¡A la ley y al testimonio! Si no hablan conforme a esta palabra, es porque no hay para ellos amanecer.

21 - - And it hath passed over into it, hardened and hungry, And it hath come to pass, That it is hungry, and hath been wroth, And made light of its king, and of its God, And hath looked upwards.

Y pasarán por la tierra oprimidos y hambrientos; y sucederá que cuando tengan hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios, volviendo el rostro hacia arriba.

22 A nd unto the land it looketh attentively, And lo, adversity and darkness! -- Dimness, distress, and thick darkness is driven away, But not the dimness for which she is in distress!

Después mirarán hacia la tierra, y he aquí, tribulación y tinieblas, lobreguez y angustia, y serán lanzados a la oscuridad.
