1 A nd it cometh to pass, in the seventh month, come hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and of the chiefs of the king, and ten men with him, unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and they eat there bread together in Mizpah.

Y en el mes séptimo fue Ismael, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la familia real, y uno de los oficiales principales del rey, junto con diez hombres, adonde estaba Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, en Mizpa. Y mientras comían pan juntos allí en Mizpa,

2 A nd Ishmael son of Nethaniah riseth, and the ten men who have been with him, and they smite Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he putteth him to death whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the land.

se levantó Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que estaban con él, e hirieron a espada a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, y mataron al que el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar sobre la tierra.

3 A nd all the Jews who have been with him, with Gedaliah, in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who have been found there -- the men of war -- hath Ishmael smitten.

Ismael mató también a todos los judíos que estaban con él, es decir, con Gedalías, en Mizpa, y a los hombres de guerra caldeos que se encontraban allí.

4 A nd it cometh to pass, on the second day of the putting of Gedaliah to death, (and no one hath known,)

Y sucedió que al siguiente día del asesinato de Gedalías, cuando nadie lo sabía aún,

5 t hat men come in from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria -- eighty men -- with shaven beards, and rent garments, and cutting themselves, and an offering and frankincense in their hand, to bring in to the house of Jehovah.

ochenta hombres vinieron de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria, con las barbas rapadas, las vestiduras rasgadas y cubiertos de incisiones, y con ofrendas de cereal e incienso en sus manos, para llevar los a la casa del Señor.

6 A nd Ishmael son of Nethaniah goeth forth to meet them, from Mizpah, going on and weeping, and it cometh to pass, at meeting them, that he saith unto them, `Come in unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'

Entonces Ismael, hijo de Netanías, salió a su encuentro desde Mizpa, llorando mientras iba; y cuando los encontró, les dijo: Venid a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam.

7 A nd it cometh to pass, at their coming in unto the midst of the city, that Ishmael son of Nethaniah doth slaughter them, at the midst of the pit, he and the men who with him.

Y sucedió que cuando entraron en la ciudad, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los hombres que con él estaban, los degollaron y los echaron en la cisterna.

8 A nd ten men have been found among them, and they say unto Ishmael, `Do not put us to death, for we have things hidden in the field -- wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey.' And he forbeareth, and hath not put them to death in the midst of their brethren.

Pero diez hombres que se encontraban entre ellos, dijeron a Ismael: No nos mates; pues tenemos escondidos en el campo, depósitos de trigo, cebada, aceite y miel. Y él se contuvo y no los mató como a sus compañeros.

9 A nd the pit whither Ishmael hath cast all the carcases of the men whom he hath smitten along with Gedaliah, is that which the king Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel -- it hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled with the pierced.

Y la cisterna donde Ismael había echado todos los cadáveres de los hombres que él había matado por causa de Gedalías, era la que el rey Asa había hecho por causa de Baasa, rey de Israel; Ismael, hijo de Netanías, la llenó de muertos.

10 A nd Ishmael taketh captive all the remnant of the people who in Mizpah, the daughters of the king, and all the people who are left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath committed Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and Ishmael son of Nethaniah taketh them captive, and goeth to pass over unto the sons of Ammon.

Después Ismael tomó cautivo a todo el resto del pueblo que estaba en Mizpa, a las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpa, a los cuales Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, había puesto bajo el mando de Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam. Los tomó, pues, cautivos Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y fue a pasarse a los hijos de Amón.

11 A nd hear doth Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that with him, of all the evil that Ishmael son of Nethaniah hath done,

Y oyó Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los capitanes de las tropas que estaban con él de todo el mal que había hecho Ismael, hijo de Netanías.

12 a nd they take all the men, and go to fight with Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and they find him at the great waters that in Gibeon.

Entonces tomaron a todos sus hombres y fueron a pelear contra Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y lo encontraron junto al gran estanque que está en Gabaón.

13 A nd it cometh to pass, when all the people who with Ishmael see Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces who with him, that they rejoice.

Y sucedió que cuando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a los capitanes de las tropas que estaban con él, se alegraron.

14 A nd all the people whom Ishmael hath taken captive from Mizpah turn round, yea, they turn back, and go unto Johanan son of Kareah.

Y todo el pueblo al que Ismael llevaba cautivo a Mizpa dio la vuelta y regresó y se fue con Johanán, hijo de Carea.

15 A nd Ishmael son of Nethaniah hath escaped, with eight men, from the presence of Johanan, and he goeth unto the sons of Ammon.

Pero Ismael, hijo de Netanías, escapó de Johanán con ocho hombres y se fue con los hijos de Amón.

16 A nd Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces who with him, take all the remnant of the people whom he hath brought back from Ishmael son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah -- after he had smitten Gedaliah son of Ahikam -- mighty ones, men of war, and women, and infants, and eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon,

Entonces Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los capitanes de las tropas que estaban con él tomaron de Mizpa a todo el resto del pueblo que él había recobrado de Ismael, hijo de Netanías, después que éste había matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, es decir, a los hombres de guerra, las mujeres, los niños y los eunucos, que había traído de Gabaón.

17 a nd they go and abide in the habitations of Chimham, that near Beth-Lehem, to go to enter Egypt,

Y fueron y se quedaron en Gerut-quimam, que está junto a Belén, a fin de ir y entrar en Egipto,

18 f rom the presence of the Chaldeans, for they have been afraid of them, for Ishmael son of Nethaniah had smitten Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

a causa de los caldeos, porque les temían, ya que Ismael, hijo de Netanías, había matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar la tierra.
