1 T hat which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh smiteth Gaza:

Palabra del Señor que vino al profeta Jeremías acerca de los filisteos, antes que Faraón conquistara Gaza.

2 ` Thus said Jehovah: Lo, waters are coming up from the north, And have been for an overflowing stream, And they overflow the land and its fulness, The city, and the inhabitants in it, And men have cried out, And howled hath every inhabitant of the land.

Así dice el Señor: He aquí que suben aguas del norte y se convierten en torrente desbordante, que inunda la tierra y su plenitud, la ciudad y los que en ella habitan; clamarán los hombres, y gemirá todo habitante de la tierra

3 F rom the sound of the stamping of the hoofs of his mighty ones, From the rushing of his chariot, the noise of his wheels, Fathers have not turned unto sons, From feebleness of hands,

a causa del sonido de los cascos de sus corceles, del estruendo de sus carros y del estrépito de sus ruedas. No se vuelven los padres para cuidar a sus hijos, por la debilidad de sus brazos,

4 B ecause of the day that hath come to spoil all the Philistines, To cut off to Tyre and to Zidon every helping remnant. For Jehovah is spoiling the Philistines, The remnant of the isle of Caphtor.

a causa del día que viene para destruir a todos los filisteos, para exterminar de Tiro y de Sidón a todo aliado que quede; porque el Señor destruirá a los filisteos, al remanente de la costa de Caftor.

5 C ome hath baldness unto Gaza, Cut off hath been Ashkelon, O remnant of their valley, Till when dost thou cut thyself?

Le ha sobrevenido la calvicie a Gaza, desolada ha sido Ascalón. Remanente de su valle, ¿hasta cuándo te sajarás ?

6 H o, sword of Jehovah, till when art thou not quiet? Be removed unto thy sheath, rest and cease.

¡Ay, espada del Señor! ¿Hasta cuándo estarás inquieta ? Vuélvete a tu vaina, reposa y cálmate.

7 H ow shall it be quiet, And Jehovah hath given a charge to it, Against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? There hath He appointed it!'

¿Cómo puede estar quieta, cuando el Señor le ha dado órdenes ? Contra Ascalón y contra la costa del mar, allí la ha asignado.
