1 I n the seventh year of Jehu reigned hath Jehoash, and forty years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Zibiah of Beer-Sheba,

En el séptimo año de Jehú, Joás comenzó a reinar, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén; y el nombre de su madre era Sibia de Beerseba.

2 a nd Jehoash doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah all his days in which Jehoiada the priest directed him,

Y Joás hizo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor todos los días en que el sacerdote Joiada lo dirigió.

3 o nly, the high places have not turned aside, still are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places.

Sólo que los lugares altos no fueron quitados; el pueblo aún sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.

4 A nd Jehoash saith unto the priests, `All the money of the sanctified things that is brought in to the house of Jehovah, the money of him who is passing over, each the money of his valuation, all the money that it goeth up on the heart of a man to bring in to the house of Jehovah,

Entonces Joás dijo a los sacerdotes: Todo el dinero de las cosas sagradas que se trae a la casa del Señor en moneda corriente, tanto el dinero estipulado a cada persona, como todo el dinero que cada uno voluntariamente traiga a la casa del Señor,

5 d o the priests take to them, each from his acquaintance, and they strengthen the breach of the house, in all where there is found a breach.'

que los sacerdotes lo tomen para sí, cada cual de sus conocidos; y ellos repararán los daños de la casa dondequiera que se encuentre algún daño.

6 A nd it cometh to pass, in the twenty and third year of king Jehoash, the priests have not strengthened the breach of the house,

Pero en el año veintitrés del rey Joás, los sacerdotes aún no habían reparado los daños de la casa.

7 a nd king Jehoash calleth to Jehoiada the priest, and to the priests, and saith unto them, `Wherefore are ye not strengthening the breach of the house? and now, receive no money from your acquaintances, but for the breach of the house give it.'

Entonces el rey Joás llamó al sacerdote Joiada y a los otros sacerdotes, y les dijo: ¿Por qué no reparáis los daños de la casa? Ahora pues, no toméis más dinero de vuestros conocidos, sino entregadlo para los daños de la casa.

8 A nd the priests consent not to receive money from the people, nor to strengthen the breach of the house,

Y consintieron los sacerdotes en no tomar más dinero del pueblo, ni reparar ellos los daños de la casa.

9 a nd Jehoiada the priest taketh a chest, and pierceth a hole in its lid, and putteth it near the altar, on the right side, as one cometh in to the house of Jehovah, and the priests keeping the threshold have put there all the money that is brought in to the house of Jehovah.

Entonces el sacerdote Joiada tomó un cofre e hizo un agujero en la tapa, y lo puso junto al altar, al lado derecho conforme uno entra a la casa del Señor; y los sacerdotes que custodiaban el umbral, depositaban en él todo el dinero que se traía a la casa del Señor.

10 A nd it cometh to pass, at their seeing that the money abundant in the chest, that there goeth up a scribe of the king, and of the high priest, and they bind up, and count the money that is found the house of Jehovah,

Y cuando veían que había mucho dinero en el cofre, el escriba del rey y el sumo sacerdote subían y lo ataban en sacos, y contaban el dinero que se encontraba en la casa del Señor.

11 a nd have given the weighed money into the hands of those doing the work, those inspecting the house of Jehovah, and they bring it out to those working in the wood, and to builders who are working in the house of Jehovah,

Y entregaban el dinero que había sido contado en manos de los que hacían el trabajo, los cuales tenían a su cargo la casa del Señor, y ellos lo traían para pagar a los carpinteros y a los constructores que trabajaban en la casa del Señor,

12 a nd to those the wall, and to hewers of stone, and to buy wood and hewn stones to strengthen the breach of the house of Jehovah, and for all that goeth out on the house, to strengthen it.

y a los albañiles y canteros, y para comprar madera y piedra de cantería para reparar los daños de la casa del Señor, y para todo lo que se gastaba para la casa, a fin de repararla.

13 O nly, there is not made for the house of Jehovah basins of silver, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, any vessel of gold, and vessel of silver, out of the money that is brought into the house of Jehovah;

Pero del dinero que se traía a la casa del Señor, no se hicieron ni copas de plata, ni despabiladeras, ni tazones, ni trompetas, ni ninguna vasija de oro, ni vasijas de plata para la casa del Señor;

14 f or to those doing the work they give it, and they have strengthened with it the house of Jehovah,

porque lo daban a los que hacían el trabajo, y con él reparaban la casa del Señor.

15 a nd they do not reckon with the men into whose hand they give the money to give to those doing the work, for in faithfulness they are dealing.

Y no se pedían cuentas a los hombres en cuyas manos se ponía el dinero para dárselo a los que hacían el trabajo, porque procedían fielmente.

16 T he money of a trespass-offering, and the money of sin-offerings is not brought in to the house of Jehovah -- for the priests it is.

No se traía a la casa del Señor el dinero de las ofrendas por la culpa ni el dinero de las ofrendas por el pecado; era para los sacerdotes.

17 T hen go up doth Hazael king of Aram, and fighteth against Gath, and captureth it, and Hazael setteth his face to go up against Jerusalem;

Entonces Hazael, rey de Aram, subió y peleó contra Gat y la tomó; y Hazael se propuso subir contra Jerusalén.

18 a nd Jehoash king of Judah taketh all the sanctified things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had sanctified, and his own sanctified things, and all the gold that is found in the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the house of the king, and sendeth to Hazael king of Aram, and he goeth up from off Jerusalem.

Y Joás, rey de Judá, tomó todas las cosas sagradas que Josafat, Joram y Ocozías, sus padres, reyes de Judá, habían consagrado, y sus propias cosas sagradas y todo el oro que se encontraba en las tesorerías de la casa del Señor y de la casa del rey, y las envió a Hazael, rey de Aram. Entonces él se retiró de Jerusalén.

19 A nd the rest of the matters of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Los demás hechos de Joás, y todo lo que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

20 A nd his servants rise, and make a conspiracy, and smite Joash in the house of Millo, that is going down to Silla:

Y sus siervos se levantaron y tramaron una conspiración, y mataron a Joás en la casa de Milo, cuando descendía a Sila.

21 y ea, Jozachar son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad son of Shemer, his servants, have smitten him, and he dieth, and they bury him with his fathers in the city of David, and reign doth Amaziah his son, in his stead.

Pues sus siervos Josacar, hijo de Simeat, y Jozabad, hijo de Somer, lo hirieron y murió; y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de David, y Amasías su hijo reinó en su lugar.
