1 V iendo Raquel que no daba hijos a Jacob, tuvo envidia de su hermana, y decía a Jacob: Dame hijos, o si no, me muero.

And Rachel seeth that she hath not borne to Jacob, and Rachel is envious of her sister, and saith unto Jacob, `Give me sons, and if there is none -- I die.'

2 Y Jacob se enojó contra Raquel, y dijo: ¿Soy yo acaso Dios, que te impidió el fruto de tu vientre?

And Jacob's anger burneth against Rachel, and he saith, `Am I in stead of God who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?'

3 Y ella dijo: He aquí mi sierva Bilha; llégate a ella, y dará a luz sobre mis rodillas, y yo también tendré hijos de ella.

And she saith, `Lo, my handmaid Bilhah, go in unto her, and she doth bear on my knees, and I am built up, even I, from her;'

4 A sí le dio a Bilha su sierva por mujer; y Jacob se llegó a ella.

and she giveth to him Bilhah her maid-servant for a wife, and Jacob goeth in unto her;

5 Y concibió Bilha, y dio a luz un hijo a Jacob.

and Bilhah conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son,

6 D ijo entonces Raquel: Me juzgó Dios, y también oyó mi voz, y me dio un hijo. Por tanto llamó su nombre Dan.

and Rachel saith, `God hath decided for me, and also hath hearkened to my voice, and giveth to me a son;' therefore hath she called his name Dan.

7 C oncibió otra vez Bilha la sierva de Raquel, y dio a luz un segundo hijo a Jacob.

And Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant, conceiveth again, and beareth a second son to Jacob,

8 Y dijo Raquel: Con luchas de Dios he contendido con mi hermana, y he vencido. Y llamó su nombre Neftalí.

and Rachel saith, `With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, yea, I have prevailed;' and she calleth his name Napthali.

9 V iendo, pues, Lea, que había dejado de dar a luz, tomó a Zilpa su sierva, y la dio a Jacob por mujer.

And Leah seeth that she hath ceased from bearing, and she taketh Zilpah her maid-servant, and giveth her to Jacob for a wife;

10 Y Zilpa sierva de Lea dio a luz un hijo a Jacob.

and Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth to Jacob a son,

11 Y dijo Lea: Vino la ventura; y llamó su nombre Gad.

and Leah saith, `A troop is coming;' and she calleth his name Gad.

12 L uego Zilpa la sierva de Lea dio a luz otro hijo a Jacob.

And Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant, beareth a second son to Jacob,

13 Y dijo Lea: Para dicha mía; porque las mujeres me dirán dichosa; y llamó su nombre Aser.

and Leah saith, `Because of my happiness, for daughters have pronounced me happy;' and she calleth his name Asher.

14 F ue Rubén en tiempo de la siega de los trigos, y halló mandrágoras en el campo, y las trajo a Lea su madre; y dijo Raquel a Lea: Te ruego que me des de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

And Reuben goeth in the days of wheat-harvest, and findeth love-apples in the field, and bringeth them in unto Leah, his mother, and Rachel saith unto Leah, `Give to me, I pray thee, of the love-apples of thy son.'

15 Y ella respondió: ¿Es poco que hayas tomado mi marido, sino que también te has de llevar las mandrágoras de mi hijo? Y dijo Raquel: Pues dormirá contigo esta noche por las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

And she saith to her, `Is thy taking my husband a little thing, that thou hast taken also the love-apples of my son?' and Rachel saith, `Therefore doth he lie with thee to-night, for thy son's love-apples.'

16 C uando, pues, Jacob volvía del campo a la tarde, salió Lea a él, y le dijo: Llégate a mí, porque a la verdad te he alquilado por las mandrágoras de mi hijo. Y durmió con ella aquella noche.

And Jacob cometh in from the field at evening; and Leah goeth to meet him, and saith, `Unto me dost thou come in, for hiring I have hired thee with my son's love-apples;' and he lieth with her during that night.

17 Y oyó Dios a Lea; y concibió, y dio a luz el quinto hijo a Jacob.

And God hearkeneth unto Leah, and she conceiveth, and beareth to Jacob a son, a fifth,

18 Y dijo Lea: Dios me ha dado mi recompensa, por cuanto di mi sierva a mi marido; por eso llamó su nombre Isacar.

and Leah saith, `God hath given my hire, because I have given my maid-servant to my husband;' and she calleth his name Issachar.

19 D espués concibió Lea otra vez, y dio a luz el sexto hijo a Jacob.

And conceive again doth Leah, and she beareth a sixth son to Jacob,

20 Y dijo Lea: Dios me ha dado una buena dote; ahora morará conmigo mi marido, porque le he dado a luz seis hijos; y llamó su nombre Zabulón.

and Leah saith, `God hath endowed me -- a good dowry; this time doth my husband dwell with me, for I have borne to him six sons;' and she calleth his name Zebulun;

21 D espués dio a luz una hija, y llamó su nombre Dina.

and afterwards hath she born a daughter, and calleth her name Dinah.

22 Y se acordó Dios de Raquel, y la oyó Dios, y le concedió hijos.

And God remembereth Rachel, and God hearkeneth unto her, and openeth her womb,

23 Y concibió, y dio a luz un hijo, y dijo: Dios ha quitado mi afrenta;

and she conceiveth and beareth a son, and saith, `God hath gathered up my reproach;'

24 y llamó su nombre José, diciendo: Añádame Jehová otro hijo. Tretas de Jacob y de Labán

and she calleth his name Joseph, saying, `Jehovah is adding to me another son.'

25 A conteció cuando Raquel hubo dado a luz a José, que Jacob dijo a Labán: Envíame, e iré a mi lugar, y a mi tierra.

And it cometh to pass, when Rachel hath borne Joseph, that Jacob saith unto Laban, `Send me away, and I go unto my place, and to my land;

26 D ame mis mujeres y mis hijos, por las cuales he servido contigo, y déjame ir; pues tú sabes los servicios que te he hecho.

give up my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and I go; for thou -- thou hast known my service which I have served thee.'

27 Y Labán le respondió: Halle yo ahora gracia en tus ojos, y quédate; he experimentado que Jehová me ha bendecido por tu causa.

And Laban saith unto him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes -- I have observed diligently that Jehovah doth bless me for thy sake.'

28 Y dijo: Señálame tu salario, y yo lo daré.

He saith also, `Define thy hire to me, and I give.'

29 Y él respondió: Tú sabes cómo te he servido, y cómo ha estado tu ganado conmigo.

And he saith unto him, `Thou -- thou hast known that which I have served thee, and that which thy substance was with me;

30 P orque poco tenías antes de mi venida, y ha crecido en gran número, y Jehová te ha bendecido con mi llegada; y ahora, ¿cuándo trabajaré también por mi propia casa?

for little which thou hast had at my appearance, and it breaketh forth into a multitude, and Jehovah blesseth thee at my coming; and now, when do I make, I also, for mine own house?'

31 Y él dijo: ¿Qué te daré? Y respondió Jacob: No me des nada; si hicieres por mí esto, volveré a apacentar tus ovejas.

And he saith, `What do I give to thee?' And Jacob saith, `Thou dost not give me anything; if thou do for me this thing, I turn back; I have delight; thy flock I watch;

32 Y o pasaré hoy por todo tu rebaño, poniendo aparte todas las ovejas manchadas y salpicadas de color, y todas las ovejas de color oscuro, y las manchadas y salpicadas de color entre las cabras; y esto será mi salario.

I pass through all thy flock to-day to turn aside from thence every sheep speckled and spotted, and every brown sheep among the lambs, and speckled and spotted among the goats -- and it hath been my hire;

33 A sí responderá por mí mi honradez mañana, cuando vengas a reconocer mi salario; toda la que no fuere pintada ni manchada en las cabras, y de color oscuro entre mis ovejas, se me ha de tener como de hurto.

and my righteousness hath answered for me in the day to come, when it cometh in for my hire before thy face; -- every one which is not speckled and spotted among goats, and brown among lambs -- it is stolen with me.'

34 D ijo entonces Labán: Mira, sea como tú dices.

And Laban saith, `Lo, O that it were according to thy word;'

35 Y Labán apartó aquel día los machos cabríos manchados y rayados, y todas las cabras manchadas y salpicadas de color, y toda aquella que tenía en sí algo de blanco, y todas las de color oscuro entre las ovejas, y las puso en mano de sus hijos.

and he turneth aside during that day the ring-straked and the spotted he-goats, and all the speckled and the spotted she-goats, every one that white in it, and every brown one among the lambs, and he giveth into the hand of his sons,

36 Y puso tres días de camino entre sí y Jacob; y Jacob apacentaba las otras ovejas de Labán.

and setteth a journey of three days between himself and Jacob; and Jacob is feeding the rest of the flock of Laban.

37 T omó luego Jacob varas verdes de álamo, de avellano y de castaño, y descortezó en ellas mondaduras blancas, descubriendo así lo blanco de las varas.

And Jacob taketh to himself a rod of fresh poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut, and doth peel in them white peelings, making bare the white that on the rods,

38 Y puso las varas que había mondado delante del ganado, en los canales de los abrevaderos del agua donde venían a beber las ovejas, las cuales procreaban cuando venían a beber.

and setteth up the rods which he hath peeled in the gutters in the watering troughs (when the flock cometh in to drink), over-against the flock, that they may conceive in their coming in to drink;

39 A sí concebían las ovejas delante de las varas; y parían borregos listados, pintados y salpicados de diversos colores.

and the flocks conceive at the rods, and the flock beareth ring-straked, speckled, and spotted ones.

40 Y apartaba Jacob los corderos, y ponía con su propio rebaño los listados y todo lo que era oscuro del hato de Labán. Y ponía su hato aparte, y no lo ponía con las ovejas de Labán.

And the lambs hath Jacob parted, and he putteth the face of the flock towards the ring-straked, also all the brown in the flock of Laban, and he setteth his own droves by themselves, and hath not set them near Laban's flock.

41 Y sucedía que cuantas veces se hallaban en celo las ovejas más fuertes, Jacob ponía las varas delante de las ovejas en los abrevaderos, para que concibiesen a la vista de las varas.

And it hath come to pass whenever the strong ones of the flock conceive, that Jacob set the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, to cause them to conceive by the rods,

42 P ero cuando venían las ovejas más débiles, no las ponía; así eran las más débiles para Labán, y las más fuertes para Jacob.

and when the flock is feeble, he doth not set; and the feeble ones have been Laban's, and the strong ones Jacob's.

43 Y se enriqueció el varón muchísimo, y tuvo muchas ovejas, y siervas y siervos, y camellos y asnos.

And the man increaseth very exceedingly, and hath many flocks, and maid-servants, and men-servants, and camels, and asses.
