1 E n el principio era el Verbo, y el Verbo era con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God;

2 E ste era en el principio con Dios.

this one was in the beginning with God;

3 T odas las cosas por él fueron hechas, y sin él nada de lo que ha sido hecho, fue hecho.

all things through him did happen, and without him happened not even one thing that hath happened.

4 E n él estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men,

5 L a luz en las tinieblas resplandece, y las tinieblas no prevalecieron contra ella.

and the light in the darkness did shine, and the darkness did not perceive it.

6 H ubo un hombre enviado de Dios, el cual se llamaba Juan.

There came a man -- having been sent from God -- whose name John,

7 E ste vino por testimonio, para que diese testimonio de la luz, a fin de que todos creyesen por él.

this one came for testimony, that he might testify about the Light, that all might believe through him;

8 N o era él la luz, sino para que diese testimonio de la luz.

that one was not the Light, but -- that he might testify about the Light.

9 A quella luz verdadera, que alumbra a todo hombre, venía a este mundo.

He was the true Light, which doth enlighten every man, coming to the world;

10 E n el mundo estaba, y el mundo por él fue hecho; pero el mundo no le conoció.

in the world he was, and the world through him was made, and the world did not know him:

11 A lo suyo vino, y los suyos no le recibieron.

to his own things he came, and his own people did not receive him;

12 M as a todos los que le recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dio potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios;

but as many as did receive him to them he gave authority to become sons of God -- to those believing in his name,

13 l os cuales no son engendrados de sangre, ni de voluntad de carne, ni de voluntad de varón, sino de Dios.

who -- not of blood nor of a will of flesh, nor of a will of man but -- of God were begotten.

14 Y aquel Verbo fue hecho carne, y habitó entre nosotros (y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre), lleno de gracia y de verdad.

And the Word became flesh, and did tabernacle among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of an only begotten of a father, full of grace and truth.

15 J uan dio testimonio de él, y clamó diciendo: Este es de quien yo decía: El que viene después de mí, es antes de mí; porque era primero que yo.

John doth testify concerning him, and hath cried, saying, `This was he of whom I said, He who after me is coming, hath come before me, for he was before me;'

16 P orque de su plenitud tomamos todos, y gracia sobre gracia.

and out of his fulness did we all receive, and grace over-against grace;

17 P ues la ley por medio de Moisés fue dada, pero la gracia y la verdad vinieron por medio de Jesucristo.

for the law through Moses was given, the grace and the truth through Jesus Christ did come;

18 A Dios nadie le vio jamás; el unigénito Hijo, que está en el seno del Padre, él le ha dado a conocer. Testimonio de Juan el Bautista (Mt. 3. 11-12; Mr. 1. 7-8; Lc. 3. 15-17)

God no one hath ever seen; the only begotten Son, who is on the bosom of the Father -- he did declare.

19 E ste es el testimonio de Juan, cuando los judíos enviaron de Jerusalén sacerdotes y levitas para que le preguntasen: ¿Tú, quién eres?

And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent out of Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they might question him, `Who art thou?'

20 C onfesó, y no negó, sino confesó: Yo no soy el Cristo.

and he confessed and did not deny, and confessed -- `I am not the Christ.'

21 Y le preguntaron: ¿Qué pues? ¿Eres tú Elías? Dijo: No soy. ¿Eres tú el profeta? Y respondió: No.

And they questioned him, `What then? Elijah art thou?' and he saith, `I am not.' -- `The prophet art thou?' and he answered, `No.'

22 L e dijeron: ¿Pues quién eres? para que demos respuesta a los que nos enviaron. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo?

They said then to him, `Who art thou, that we may give an answer to those sending us? what dost thou say concerning thyself?'

23 D ijo: Yo soy la voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Enderezad el camino del Señor, como dijo el profeta Isaías.

He said, `I a voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.'

24 Y los que habían sido enviados eran de los fariseos.

And those sent were of the Pharisees,

25 Y le preguntaron, y le dijeron: ¿Por qué, pues, bautizas, si tú no eres el Cristo, ni Elías, ni el profeta?

and they questioned him and said to him, `Why, then, dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'

26 J uan les respondió diciendo: Yo bautizo con agua; mas en medio de vosotros está uno a quien vosotros no conocéis.

John answered them, saying, `I baptize with water, but in midst of you he hath stood whom ye have not known, this one it is who is coming after me, who hath been before me,

27 E ste es el que viene después de mí, el que es antes de mí, del cual yo no soy digno de desatar la correa del calzado.

of whom I am not worthy that I may loose the cord of his sandal.'

28 E stas cosas sucedieron en Betábara, al otro lado del Jordán, donde Juan estaba bautizando. El Cordero de Dios

These things came to pass in Bethabara, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing,

29 E l siguiente día vio Juan a Jesús que venía a él, y dijo: He aquí el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo.

on the morrow John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God, who is taking away the sin of the world;

30 E ste es aquel de quien yo dije: Después de mí viene un varón, el cual es antes de mí; porque era primero que yo.

this is he concerning whom I said, After me doth come a man, who hath come before me, because he was before me:

31 Y yo no le conocía; mas para que fuese manifestado a Israel, por esto vine yo bautizando con agua.

and I knew him not, but, that he might be manifested to Israel, because of this I came with the water baptizing.

32 T ambién dio Juan testimonio, diciendo: Vi al Espíritu que descendía del cielo como paloma, y permaneció sobre él.

And John testified, saying -- `I have seen the Spirit coming down, as a dove, out of heaven, and it remained on him;

33 Y yo no le conocía; pero el que me envió a bautizar con agua, aquél me dijo: Sobre quien veas descender el Espíritu y que permanece sobre él, ése es el que bautiza con el Espíritu Santo.

and I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whomsoever thou mayst see the Spirit coming down, and remaining on him, this is he who is baptizing with the Holy Spirit;

34 Y yo le vi, y he dado testimonio de que éste es el Hijo de Dios. Los primeros discípulos

and I have seen, and have testified, that this is the Son of God.'

35 E l siguiente día otra vez estaba Juan, y dos de sus discípulos.

On the morrow, again, John was standing, and two of his disciples,

36 Y mirando a Jesús que andaba por allí, dijo: He aquí el Cordero de Dios.

and having looked on Jesus walking, he saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God;'

37 L e oyeron hablar los dos discípulos, y siguieron a Jesús.

and the two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.

38 Y volviéndose Jesús, y viendo que le seguían, les dijo: ¿Qué buscáis? Ellos le dijeron: Rabí (que traducido es, Maestro), ¿dónde moras?

And Jesus having turned, and having beheld them following, saith to them, `What seek ye?' and they said to them, `Rabbi, (which is, being interpreted, Teacher,) where remainest thou?'

39 L es dijo: Venid y ved. Fueron, y vieron donde moraba, y se quedaron con él aquel día; porque era como la hora décima.

He saith to them, `Come and see;' they came, and saw where he doth remain, and with him they remained that day and the hour was about the tenth.

40 A ndrés, hermano de Simón Pedro, era uno de los dos que habían oído a Juan, y habían seguido a Jesús.

Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard from John, and followed him;

41 E ste halló primero a su hermano Simón, y le dijo: Hemos hallado al Mesías (que traducido es, el Cristo).

this one doth first find his own brother Simon, and saith to him, `We have found the Messiah,' (which is, being interpreted, The Anointed,)

42 Y le trajo a Jesús. Y mirándole Jesús, dijo: Tú eres Simón, hijo de Jonás; tú serás llamado Cefas (que quiere decir, Pedro ). Jesús llama a Felipe y a Natanael

and he brought him unto Jesus: and having looked upon him, Jesus saith, `Thou art Simon, the son of Jonas, thou shalt be called Cephas,' (which is interpreted, A rock.)

43 E l siguiente día quiso Jesús ir a Galilea, y halló a Felipe, y le dijo: Sígueme.

On the morrow, he willed to go forth to Galilee, and he findeth Philip, and saith to him, `Be following me.'

44 Y Felipe era de Betsaida, la ciudad de Andrés y Pedro.

And Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter;

45 F elipe halló a Natanael, y le dijo: Hemos hallado a aquél de quien escribió Moisés en la ley, así como los profetas: a Jesús, el hijo de José, de Nazaret.

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, `Him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and the prophets, we have found, Jesus the son of Joseph, who from Nazareth;'

46 N atanael le dijo: ¿De Nazaret puede salir algo de bueno? Le dijo Felipe: Ven y ve.

and Nathanael said to him, `Out of Nazareth is any good thing able to be?' Philip said to him, `Come and see.'

47 C uando Jesús vio a Natanael que se le acercaba, dijo de él: He aquí un verdadero israelita, en quien no hay engaño.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming unto him, and he saith concerning him, `Lo, truly an Israelite, in whom guile is not;'

48 L e dijo Natanael: ¿De dónde me conoces? Respondió Jesús y le dijo: Antes que Felipe te llamara, cuando estabas debajo de la higuera, te vi.

Nathanael saith to him, `Whence me dost thou know?' Jesus answered and said to him, `Before Philip's calling thee -- thou being under the fig-tree -- I saw thee.'

49 R espondió Natanael y le dijo: Rabí, tú eres el Hijo de Dios; tú eres el Rey de Israel.

Nathanael answered and saith to him, `Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the king of Israel.'

50 R espondió Jesús y le dijo: ¿Porque te dije: Te vi debajo de la higuera, crees? Cosas mayores que estas verás.

Jesus answered and said to him, `Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, thou dost believe; greater things than these thou shalt see;'

51 Y le dijo: De cierto, de cierto os digo: De aquí adelante veréis el cielo abierto, y a los ángeles de Dios que suben y descienden sobre el Hijo del Hombre.

and he saith to him, `Verily, verily, I say to you, henceforth ye shall see the heaven opened, and the messengers of God going up and coming down upon the Son of Man.'
