1 V ino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, propón una figura, y compón una parábola a la casa de Israel.

`Son of man, put forth a riddle, and use a simile unto the house of Israel,

3 Y dirás: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Una gran águila, de grandes alas y de largos miembros, llena de plumas de diversos colores, vino al Líbano, y tomó el cogollo del cedro.

and thou hast said: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: The great eagle, great-winged, long-pinioned, Full of feathers, that hath diverse colours, Hath come in unto Lebanon, And it taketh the foliage of the cedar,

4 A rrancó el principal de sus renuevos y lo llevó a tierra de mercaderes, y lo puso en una ciudad de comerciantes.

The top of its tender twigs it hath cropped, And it bringeth it in to the land of Canaan. In a city of merchants it hath placed it.

5 T omó también de la simiente de la tierra, y la puso en un campo bueno para sembrar, la plantó junto a aguas abundantes, la puso como un sauce.

And it taketh of the seed of the land, And doth put it in a field of seed, To take by many waters, In a conspicuous place it hath set it.

6 Y brotó, y se hizo una vid de mucho ramaje, de poca altura, y sus ramas miraban al águila, y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella; así que se hizo una vid, y arrojó sarmientos y echó mugrones.

And it springeth up, and becometh a spreading vine, humble of stature, To turn its thin shoots toward itself, And its roots are under it, And it becometh a vine, and maketh boughs, And sendeth forth beauteous branches.

7 H abía también otra gran águila, de grandes alas y de muchas plumas; y he aquí que esta vid juntó cerca de ella sus raíces, y extendió hacia ella sus ramas, para ser regada por ella por los surcos de su plantío.

And there is another great eagle, Great-winged, and abounding with feathers, And lo, this vine hath bent its roots toward him, And its thin shoots it hath sent out toward him, To water it from the furrows of its planting,

8 E n un buen campo, junto a muchas aguas, fue plantada, para que hiciese ramas y diese fruto, y para que fuese vid robusta.

On a good field, by many waters, it is planted, To make branches, and to bear fruit, To be for an goodly vine.

9 D iles: Así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: ¿Será prosperada? ¿No arrancará sus raíces, y destruirá su fruto, y se secará? Todas sus hojas lozanas se secarán; y eso sin gran poder ni mucha gente para arrancarla de sus raíces.

Say: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: It prospereth -- its roots doth he not draw out, And its fruit cut off, and it is withered? all the leaves of its springing it withereth, And not by great strength, and by a numerous people, To lift it up by its roots.

10 Y he aquí está plantada; ¿será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento solano la toque? En los surcos de su verdor se secará.

And lo, the planted thing -- doth it prosper? When come against it doth the east wind, Doth it not utterly wither? On the furrows of its springing it withereth.'

11 Y vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying:

12 D i ahora a la casa rebelde: ¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas? Diles: He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino a Jerusalén, y tomó a tu rey y a sus príncipes, y los llevó consigo a Babilonia.

`Say, I pray thee, to the rebellious house, Have ye not known what these ? Say, Lo, come hath the king of Babylon to Jerusalem, And he taketh its king, and its princes, And bringeth them to himself to Babylon.

13 T omó también a uno de la descendencia real e hizo pacto con él, y le hizo prestar juramento; y se llevó consigo a los poderosos de la tierra,

And he taketh of the seed of the kingdom, And maketh with him a covenant, And bringeth him in to an oath, And the mighty of the land he hath taken,

14 p ara que el reino fuese abatido y no se levantase, a fin de que guardando el pacto, permaneciese en pie.

That the kingdom may be humble, That it may not lift itself up, To keep his covenant -- that it may stand.

15 P ero se rebeló contra él, enviando embajadores a Egipto para que le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado, escapará el que estas cosas hizo? El que rompió el pacto, ¿podrá escapar?

And he rebelleth against him, To send his messengers to Egypt, To give to him horses, and much people, Doth he prosper? doth he escape who is doing these things? And hath he broken covenant and escaped?

16 V ivo yo, dice Jehová el Señor, que morirá en medio de Babilonia, en el lugar donde habita el rey que le hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció, y cuyo pacto hecho con él rompió.

I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, Doth he not -- in the place of the king who is causing him to reign, Whose oath he hath despised, And whose covenant he hath broken, With him -- in the midst of Babylon -- die?

17 Y ni con gran ejército ni con mucha compañía hará Faraón nada por él en la batalla, cuando se levanten vallados y se edifiquen torres para cortar muchas vidas.

And not with a great force, and with a numerous assembly, Doth Pharaoh maintain him in battle, By pouring out a mount, and in building a fortification, To cut off many souls.

18 P or cuanto menospreció el juramento y quebrantó el pacto, cuando he aquí que había dado su mano, y ha hecho todas estas cosas, no escapará.

And he despised the oath -- to break covenant, And lo, he hath given his hand, And all these he hath done, he escapeth not.

19 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Vivo yo, que el juramento mío que menospreció, y mi pacto que ha quebrantado, lo traeré sobre su misma cabeza.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: I live -- Mine oath that he hath despised, And My covenant that he hath broken, Have I not put it on his head?

20 E xtenderé sobre él mi red, y será preso en mi lazo, y lo haré venir a Babilonia, y allí entraré en juicio con él por su prevaricación con que contra mí se ha rebelado.

And I have spread out for him My snare, And he hath been caught in My net, And I have brought him in to Babylon, And pleaded with him there his trespass, That he hath trespassed against Me.

21 Y todos sus fugitivos, con todas sus tropas, caerán a espada, y los que queden serán esparcidos a todos los vientos; y sabréis que yo Jehová he hablado.

And all his fugitives, with all his bands, By sword do fall, and those remaining, To every wind they are spread out, And ye have known that I, Jehovah, have spoken.

22 A sí ha dicho Jehová el Señor: Tomaré yo del cogollo de aquel alto cedro, y lo plantaré; del principal de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo, y lo plantaré sobre el monte alto y sublime.

Thus said the Lord Jehovah: I have taken of the foliage of the high cedar, And I have set, From the top of its tender shoots a tender one I crop, And I -- I have planted on a mountain high and lofty.

23 E n el monte alto de Israel lo plantaré, y alzará ramas, y dará fruto, y se hará magnífico cedro; y habitarán debajo de él todas las aves de toda especie; a la sombra de sus ramas habitarán.

In a mountain -- the high place of Israel, I plant it, And it hath borne boughs, and yielded fruit, And become a goodly cedar, And dwelt under it have all birds of every wing, In the shade of its thin shoots they dwell.

24 Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo Jehová abatí el árbol sublime, levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde, e hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo Jehová lo he dicho, y lo haré.

And known have all trees of the field That I, Jehovah, have made low the high tree, I have set on high the low tree, I have dried up the moist tree, And I have caused the dry tree to flourish, I, Jehovah, have spoken, and have done!'
