1 Е фремиты приготовились к битве, переправились к Цафону и сказали Иеффаю: – Почему ты ходил воевать с аммонитянами, а нас с собой не позвал? Мы сожжем твой дом над тобой.

And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, `Wherefore has thou passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us hast not called to go with thee? thy house we burn over thee with fire.'

2 И еффай ответил: – Я и мой народ были в сильной ссоре с аммонитянами, и хотя я звал вас, вы не спасли меня от их рук.

And Jephthah saith unto them, `A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and ye have not saved me out of their hand,

3 К огда я увидел, что вы не поможете, я рискнул жизнью и переправился, чтобы сразиться с аммонитянами, и Господь позволил мне одержать над ними победу. Что же вы пришли сегодня биться со мной?

and I see that thou art not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah giveth them into my hand -- and why have ye come up unto me this day to fight against me?'

4 И еффай собрал всех галаадитян и сразился с ефремитами. Галаадитяне разбили их, потому что ефремиты говорили: – Вы, галаадитяне, отступники от Ефрема и Манассии.

And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fighteth with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, `Fugitives of Ephraim ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim -- in the midst of Manasseh.'

5 Г алаадитяне перехватили на Иордане броды к Ефрему, и всякий раз, когда уцелевший ефремит говорил: «Дайте мне переправиться», – галаадитяне спрашивали его: «Ты ефремит?». Если он отвечал: «Нет», –

And Gilead captureth the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it hath been, when the fugitives of Ephraim say, `Let me pass over,' and the men of Gilead say to him, `An Ephramite thou?' and he saith, `No;'

6 о ни говорили: «Скажи “шибболет”». Если он говорил: «сибболет», – а ефремиты не мог произнести это слово правильно, – они хватали и убивали его у бродов на Иордане. В то время было убито сорок две тысячи ефремитов.

that they say to him, `Say, I pray thee, Shibboleth;' and he saith, `Sibboleth,' and is not prepared to speak right -- and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.

7 И еффай был судьей в Израиле шесть лет. Потом галаадитянин Иеффай умер и был похоронен в своем городе, что в Галааде. Ивцан, Елон и Авдон

And Jephthah judged Israel six years, and Jephthah the Gileadite dieth, and is buried in the cities of Gilead.

8 П осле него судьей в Израиле был Ивцан из Вифлеема.

And after him Ibzan of Beth-Lehem judgeth Israel,

9 У него было тридцать сыновей и тридцать дочерей. Он выдал дочерей замуж не в своем клане, и сыновьям нашел в жены тридцать девушек не из своего клана. Он был судьей в Израиле семь лет.

and he hath thirty sons and thirty daughters, he hath sent without and thirty daughters hath brought in to his sons from without; and he judgeth Israel seven years.

10 П отом Ивцан умер и был похоронен в Вифлееме.

And Ibzan dieth, and is buried in Beth-Lehem.

11 П осле него десять лет в Израиле был судьей завулонитянин Елон.

And after him Elon the Zebulunite judgeth Israel, and he judgeth Israel ten years,

12 П отом Елон умер и был похоронен в Айялоне, что в земле Завулона.

and Elon the Zebulunite dieth, and is buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.

13 П осле него судей в Израиле был Авдон, сын Гиллела, из Пирафона.

And after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, judgeth Israel,

14 У него было сорок сыновей и тридцать внуков, которые ездили на семидесяти ослах. Он был судьей в Израиле восемь лет.

and he hath forty sons, and thirty grandsons, riding on seventy ass-colts, and he judgeth Israel eight years.

15 П отом Авдон, сын Гиллела, умер и был похоронен в Пирафоне, что в Ефреме, в амаликитских нагорьях.

And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, dieth, and is buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekite.
