1 С аулу было тридцать лет, когда он стал царем, и правил он Израилем сорок два года.

A son of a year Saul in his reigning, yea, two years he hath reigned over Israel,

2 С аул выбрал себе в войска в Израиле три тысячи человек. Две тысячи были с ним в городе Михмасе и в нагорьях Вефиля, а тысяча − с его сыном Ионафаном в городе Гиве, что в земле Вениамина. Остальной народ он отпустил по домам.

and Saul chooseth for himself three thousand out of Israel; and two thousand are with Saul in Michmash, and in the hill-country of Beth-El; and a thousand have been with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin; and the remnant of the people he hath sent each to his tents.

3 И онафан напал на сторожевую заставу филистимлян в Геве, и филистимляне услышали об этом. Тогда Саул велел трубить в рога по всей стране и сказал: − Пусть услышат евреи!

And Jonathan smiteth the garrison of the Philistines which in Geba, and the Philistines hear, and Saul hath blown with a trumpet through all the land, saying, `Let the Hebrews hear.'

4 И весь Израиль узнал новость: Саул напал на филистимскую заставу, и теперь филистимляне возненавидели Израиль. Народ был призван присоединиться к Саулу в Гилгале.

And all Israel have heard, saying, `Saul hath smitten the garrison of the Philistines,' and also, `Israel hath been abhorred by the Philistines;' and the people are called after Saul to Gilgal.

5 Ф илистимляне собрались воевать с Израилем, у них было три тысячи колесниц, шесть тысяч колесничих и столько воинов, сколько песка на морском берегу. Они поднялись и расположились лагерем в Михмасе, к востоку от Бет-Авена.

And the Philistines have been gathered to fight with Israel; thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and a people as the sand which on the sea-shore for multitude; and they come up and encamp in Michmash, east of Beth-Aven.

6 К огда израильтяне увидели, что они в опасности, и что их сильно потеснили, они спрятались в пещерах и зарослях, среди скал, в ямах и колодцах.

And the men of Israel have seen that they are distressed, that the people hath been oppressed, and the people hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

7 Н екоторые евреи даже перебрались за Иордан в землю Гада и в Галаад. Ослушание Саула Саул остался в Гилгале, и все воины, которые были с ним, дрожали от страха.

And Hebrews have passed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; and Saul yet in Gilgal, and all the people have trembled after him.

8 О н выждал семь дней − время, определенное Самуилом, − но Самуил все не приходил в Гилгал, и люди Саула начали разбегаться.

And he waiteth seven days, according to the appointment with Samuel, and Samuel hath not come to Gilgal, and the people are scattered from off him.

9 Т огда Саул сказал: − Приведите ко мне животных, предназначенных для жертв всесожжения и жертв примирения. И он сам принес жертву всесожжения.

And Saul saith, `Bring nigh unto me the burnt-offering, and the peace-offerings;' and he causeth the burnt-offering to ascend.

10 К ак раз в то время, когда он закончил жертвоприношение, пришел Самуил, и Саул вышел, чтобы приветствовать его.

And it cometh to pass at his completing to cause the burnt-offering to ascend, that lo, Samuel hath come, and Saul goeth out to meet him, to bless him;

11 − Что ты сделал? − спросил Самуил. Саул ответил: − Когда я увидел, что люди разбегаются, ты не пришел в назначенное время, а филистимляне собираются в Михмасе,

and Samuel saith, `What hast thou done?' And Saul saith, `Because I saw that the people were scattered from off me, and thou hadst not come at the appointment of the days, and the Philistines are gathered to Michmash,

12 я подумал: «Теперь филистимляне спустятся в Гилгал, выступив против меня, а я так и не попросил благословения от Господа». Поэтому я решил, что должен принести жертву всесожжения.

and I say, Now do the Philistines come down unto me to Gilgal, and the face of Jehovah I have not appeased; and I force myself, and cause the burnt-offering to ascend.'

13 − Ты поступил безрассудно, − сказал Самуил. − Ты не исполнил повеления, которое дал тебе Господь, твой Бог. Если бы ты не сделал этого, Он установил бы твое царство над Израилем навсегда.

And Samuel saith unto Saul, `Thou hast been foolish; thou hast not kept the command of Jehovah thy God, which He commanded thee, for now had Jehovah established thy kingdom over Israel unto the age;

14 Н о теперь твое царствование не продлится. Господь нашел Себе человека по сердцу и избрал его вождем Своего народа, потому что ты не исполнил Господнего повеления.

and, now, thy kingdom doth not stand, Jehovah hath sought for Himself a man according to His own heart, and Jehovah chargeth him for leader over His people, for thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee.'

15 З атем Самуил поднялся из Гилгала в Гиву Вениамина. Саул пересчитал людей, которые были с ним, и их набралось около шестисот человек. Безоружный Израиль

And Samuel riseth, and goeth up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin; and Saul inspecteth the people who are found with him, about six hundred men,

16 С аул, его сын Ионафан и люди, которые были с ними, стояли в Геве, что в земле Вениамина, тогда как филистимляне разбили лагерь в Михмасе.

and Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people who are found with them, are abiding in Gibeah of Benjamin, and the Philistines have encamped in Michmash.

17 Ф илистимские воины вышли для набега тремя отрядами. Один повернул к Офре, что в земле Шуал,

And the destroyer goeth out from the camp of the Philistines -- three detachments; the one detachment turneth unto the way of Ophrah, unto the land of Shual;

18 д ругой − к Бет-Хорону, а третий − к пограничной земле, возвышающейся над долиной Цевоим, по направлению к пустыне.

and the one detachment turneth the way of Beth-Horon, and the one detachment turneth the way of the border which is looking on the valley of the Zeboim, toward the wilderness.

19 В о всей земле Израиля невозможно было отыскать ни одного кузнеца, потому что филистимляне сказали: «Иначе евреи станут делать мечи или копья!»

And an artificer is not found in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, `Lest the Hebrews make sword or spear;'

20 В есь Израиль ходил к филистимлянам точить свои плужные лемехи, мотыги, топоры и серпы.

and all Israel go down to the Philistines, to sharpen each his ploughshare, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;

21 Д ве трети шекеля стоило наточить плужные лемехи и мотыги, и треть шекеля – наточить топоры и поправить рожон для скота.

and there hath been the file for mattocks, and for coulters, and for three-pronged rakes, and for the axes, and to set up the goads.

22 П оэтому в день сражения ни у одного воина с Саулом и Ионафаном не было в руке меча или копья; они были только у Саула и у его сына Ионафана. Подвиг Ионафана

And it hath been, in the day of battle, that there hath not been found sword and spear in the hand of any of the people who with Saul and with Jonathan -- and there is found to Saul and to Jonathan his son.

23 О тряд филистимлян вышел к михмасской переправе.

And the station of the Philistines goeth out unto the passage of Michmash.
