1 I due angeli giunsero a Sodoma verso sera. Lot stava seduto alla porta di Sodoma; come li vide, si alzò per andar loro incontro, si prostrò con la faccia a terra,

And two of the messengers come towards Sodom at even, and Lot is sitting at the gate of Sodom, and Lot seeth, and riseth to meet them, and boweth himself -- face to the earth,

2 e disse: «Signori miei, vi prego, venite in casa del vostro servo, fermatevi questa notte e lavatevi i piedi; poi domattina vi alzerete per tempo e continuerete il vostro cammino». Essi risposero: «No, passeremo la notte sulla piazza».

and he saith, `Lo, I pray you, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, unto the house of your servant, and lodge, and wash your feet -- then ye have risen early and gone on your way;' and they say, `Nay, but in the broad place we do lodge.'

3 M a egli fece loro tanta premura che andarono da lui ed entrarono in casa sua. Egli preparò per loro un rinfresco, fece cuocere dei pani senza lievito ed essi mangiarono.

And he presseth on them greatly, and they turn aside unto him, and come in unto his house; and he maketh for them a banquet, and hath baked unleavened things; and they do eat.

4 M a prima che si fossero coricati, gli uomini della città, i Sodomiti, circondarono la casa: giovani e vecchi, la popolazione intera venuta da ogni lato. Chiamarono Lot e gli dissero:

Before they lie down, the men of the city -- men of Sodom -- have come round about against the house, from young even unto aged, all the people from the extremity;

5 « Dove sono quegli uomini che sono venuti da te questa notte? Falli uscire, perché vogliamo abusare di loro».

and they call unto Lot and say to him, `Where the men who have come in unto thee to-night? bring them out unto us, and we know them.'

6 L ot uscì verso di loro sull’ingresso della casa, si chiuse dietro la porta, e disse:

And Lot goeth out unto them, to the opening, and the door hath shut behind him,

7 « Vi prego, fratelli miei, non fate questo male!

and saith, `Do not, I pray you, my brethren, do evil;

8 E cco, ho due figlie che non hanno conosciuto uomo: lasciate che io ve le conduca fuori e voi farete di loro quel che vi piacerà; ma non fate nulla a questi uomini, perché sono venuti all’ombra del mio tetto».

lo, I pray you, I have two daughters, who have not known any one; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do to them as good in your eyes; only to these men do not anything, for therefore have they come in within the shadow of my roof.'

9 E ssi però gli dissero: «Togliti di mezzo!» E ancora: «Quest’individuo è venuto qua come straniero e vuol fare il giudice! Ora faremo a te peggio che a quelli!» E, premendo Lot con violenza, s’avvicinarono per sfondare la porta.

And they say, `Come nigh hither;' they say also, `This one hath come in to sojourn, and he certainly judgeth! now, we do evil to thee more than them;' and they press against the man, against Lot greatly, and come nigh to break the door.

10 M a quegli uomini stesero la mano, tirarono Lot in casa con loro e chiusero la porta.

And the men put forth their hand, and bring in Lot unto them, into the house, and have shut the door;

11 C olpirono di cecità la gente che era alla porta della casa, dal più piccolo al più grande, così che si stancarono di cercar la porta.

and the men who at the opening of the house they have smitten with blindness, from small even unto great, and they weary themselves to find the opening.

12 Q uegli uomini dissero a Lot: «Chi hai ancora qui? Fa’ uscire da questo luogo generi, figli, figlie e chiunque dei tuoi è in questa città,

And the men say unto Lot, `Whom hast thou here still? son-in-law, thy sons also, and thy daughters, and all whom thou hast in the city, bring out from this place;

13 p erché noi distruggeremo questo luogo. Infatti il grido contro i suoi abitanti è grande davanti al Signore, e il Signore ci ha mandati a distruggerlo».

for we are destroying this place, for their cry hath been great the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah doth send us to destroy it.'

14 A llora Lot uscì, parlò ai suoi generi che avevano preso le sue figlie, e disse: «Alzatevi, uscite da questo luogo, perché il Signore sta per distruggere la città». Ma ai suoi generi parve che volesse scherzare.

And Lot goeth out, and speaketh unto his sons-in-law, those taking his daughters, and saith, `Rise, go out from this place, for Jehovah is destroying the city;' and he is as mocking in the eyes of his sons-in-law.

15 Q uando l’alba cominciò ad apparire, gli angeli sollecitarono Lot dicendo: «Àlzati, prendi tua moglie e le tue figlie che si trovano qui, perché tu non perisca nel castigo di questa città».

And when the dawn hath ascended, then the messengers press upon Lot, saying, `Rise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters who are found present, lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.'

16 M a egli indugiava; e quegli uomini presero per la mano lui, sua moglie e le sue due figlie, perché il Signore lo voleva risparmiare. Lo portarono via e lo misero fuori della città.

And he lingereth, and the men lay hold on his hand, and on the hand of his wife, and on the hand of his two daughters, through the mercy of Jehovah unto him, and they bring him out, and cause him to rest without the city.

17 D opo averli fatti uscire, uno di quegli uomini disse: «Metti la tua vita al sicuro: non guardare indietro e non ti fermare in alcun luogo della pianura; cerca scampo sul monte, altrimenti perirai!»

And it cometh to pass when he hath brought them out without, that he saith, `Escape for thy life; look not expectingly behind thee, nor stand thou in all the circuit; to the mountain escape, lest thou be consumed.'

18 L ot rispose loro: «No, mio signore!

And Lot saith unto them, `Not, I pray thee, my lord;

19 E cco, il tuo servo ha trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi, e tu hai mostrato la grandezza della tua bontà verso di me conservandomi in vita; ma io non posso salvarmi sui monti prima che il disastro mi travolga e io muoia.

lo, I pray thee, thy servant hath found grace in thine eyes, and thou dost make great thy kindness which thou hast done with me by saving my life, and I am unable to escape to the mountain, lest the evil cleave me, and I have died;

20 E cco, c’è questa città vicina per rifugiarmi – è piccola – e lascia che io fugga lì – e non è forse piccola? – e così io vivrò».

lo, I pray thee, this city near to flee thither, and it little; let me escape, I pray thee, thither, (is it not little?) and my soul doth live.'

21 E quello rispose: «Ecco, anche questa grazia io ti concedo: di non distruggere la città della quale hai parlato.

And he saith unto him, `Lo, I have accepted thy face also for this thing, without overthrowing the city which thou hast spoken;

22 A ffrèttati, rifùgiati là, perché io non posso far nulla finché tu non vi sia giunto». Perciò quella città fu chiamata Soar.

haste, escape thither, for I am not able to do anything till thine entering thither;' therefore hath he calleth the name of the city Zoar.

23 I l sole spuntava sulla terra quando Lot arrivò a Soar.

The sun hath gone out on the earth, and Lot hath entered into Zoar,

24 A llora il Signore fece piovere dal cielo su Sodoma e Gomorra zolfo e fuoco, da parte del Signore.

and Jehovah hath rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah, from the heavens;

25 E gli distrusse quelle città, tutta la pianura, tutti gli abitanti delle città e quanto cresceva sul suolo.

and He overthroweth these cities, and all the circuit, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which is shooting up from the ground.

26 M a la moglie di Lot si volse a guardare indietro e diventò una statua di sale.

And his wife looketh expectingly from behind him, and she is -- a pillar of salt!

27 A braamo si alzò la mattina presto e andò al luogo dove si era prima fermato davanti al Signore;

And Abraham riseth early in the morning, unto the place where he hath stood the face of Jehovah;

28 g uardò verso Sodoma e Gomorra e verso tutta la regione della pianura, ed ecco vide un fumo che saliva dalla terra, come il fumo di una fornace.

and he looketh on the face of Sodom and Gomorrah, and on all the face of the land of the circuit, and seeth, and lo, the smoke of the land went up as smoke of the furnace.

29 F u così che Dio si ricordò di Abraamo, quando egli distrusse le città della pianura e fece scampare Lot al disastro, mentre distruggeva le città dove Lot aveva abitato. Origini di Moab e di Ammon

And it cometh to pass, in God's destroying the cities of the circuit, that God remembereth Abraham, and sendeth Lot out of the midst of the overthrow in the overthrowing of the cities in which Lot dwelt.

30 L ot salì da Soar per andare ad abitare sul monte insieme con le sue due figlie, perché temeva di stare in Soar; e si stabilì in una caverna, egli con le sue due figlie.

And Lot goeth up out of Zoar, and dwelleth in the mountain, and his two daughters with him, for he hath been afraid of dwelling in Zoar, and he dwelleth in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31 L a maggiore disse alla minore: «Nostro padre è vecchio e non c’è più nessuno sulla terra per mettersi con noi, come si usa in tutta la terra.

And the first-born saith unto the younger, `Our father old, and a man there is not in the earth to come in unto us, as the way of all the earth;

32 V ieni, diamo da bere del vino a nostro padre, e corichiamoci con lui, perché possiamo conservare la razza di nostro padre».

come, we cause our father to drink wine, and lie with him, and preserve from our father -- a seed.'

33 Q uella stessa notte diedero da bere del vino al loro padre; la maggiore entrò e si coricò con suo padre, ed egli non si accorse quando lei si coricò né quando si alzò.

And they cause their father to drink wine on that night; and the first-born goeth in, and lieth with her father, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.

34 I l giorno seguente la maggiore disse alla minore: «Ecco, la notte passata io mi sono coricata con mio padre; diamogli da bere del vino anche questa notte e tu entra, coricati con lui, perché possiamo conservare la razza di nostro padre».

And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the first-born saith unto the younger, `Lo, I have lain yesterday-night with my father: we cause him to drink wine also to-night, and go thou in, lie with him, and we preserve from our father -- a seed.'

35 E anche quella notte diedero da bere del vino al loro padre e la minore andò a coricarsi con lui; egli non si accorse quando lei si coricò né quando si alzò.

And they cause their father to drink wine on that night also, and the younger riseth and lieth with him, and he hath not known in her lying down, or in her rising up.

36 C osì le due figlie di Lot rimasero incinte del loro padre.

And the two daughters of Lot conceive from their father,

37 L a maggiore partorì un figlio, che chiamò Moab. Questi è il padre dei Moabiti, che esistono fino al giorno d’oggi.

and the first-born beareth a son, and calleth his name Moab; he father of Moab unto this day;

38 A nche la minore partorì un figlio, che chiamò Ben-Ammi. Questi è il padre degli Ammoniti, che esistono fino al giorno d’oggi.

as to the younger, she also hath born a son, and calleth his name Ben-Ammi: he father of the Beni-Ammon unto this day.
