1 F irst of all, then, I admonish and urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all men,

2 F or kings and all who are in positions of authority or high responsibility, that we may pass a quiet and undisturbed life a peaceable one in all godliness and reverence and seriousness in every way.

pelos reis, e por todos os que exercem autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida tranqüila e sossegada, em toda a piedade e honestidade.

3 F or such is good and right, and pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior,

Pois isto é bom e agradável diante de Deus nosso Salvador,

4 W ho wishes all men to be saved and to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly the Truth.

o qual deseja que todos os homens sejam salvos e cheguem ao pleno conhecimento da verdade.

5 F or there one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

Porque há um só Deus, e um só Mediador entre Deus e os homens, Cristo Jesus, homem,

6 W ho gave Himself as a ransom for all attested to at the right and proper time.

o qual se deu a si mesmo em resgate por todos, para servir de testemunho a seu tempo;

7 A nd of this matter I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (special messenger)—I am speaking the truth in Christ, I do not falsify —a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

para o que (digo a verdade, não minto) eu fui constituído pregador e apóstolo, mestre dos gentios na fé e na verdade.

8 I desire therefore that in every place men should pray, without anger or quarreling or resentment or doubt, lifting up holy hands.

Quero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira nem contenda.

9 A lso that women should adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

Quero, do mesmo modo, que as mulheres se ataviem com traje decoroso, com modéstia e sobriedade, não com tranças, ou com ouro, ou pérolas, ou vestidos custosos,

10 B ut by doing good deeds (deeds in themselves good and for the good and advantage of those contacted by them), as befits women who profess reverential fear for and devotion to God.

mas (como convém a mulheres que fazem profissão de servir a Deus) com boas obras.

11 L et a woman learn in quietness, in entire submissiveness.

A mulher aprenda em silêncio com toda a submissão.

12 I allow no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to remain in quietness and keep silence.

Pois não permito que a mulher ensine, nem tenha domínio sobre o homem, mas que esteja em silêncio.

13 F or Adam was first formed, then Eve;

Porque primeiro foi formado Adão, depois Eva.

14 A nd it was not Adam who was deceived, but woman who was deceived and deluded and fell into transgression.

E Adão não foi enganado, mas a mulher, sendo enganada, caiu em transgressão;

15 N evertheless they will be saved if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, through the Childbearing or by the birth of the divine Child.

salvar-se-á, todavia, dando ã luz filhos, se permanecer com sobriedade na fé, no amor e na santificação.
