1 L ater on there was a Jewish festival (feast) for which Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

Depois disso havia uma festa dos judeus; e Jesus subiu a Jerusalém.

2 N ow there is in Jerusalem a pool near the Sheep Gate. This pool in the Hebrew is called Bethesda, having five porches (alcoves, colonnades, doorways).

Ora, em Jerusalém, próximo ã porta das ovelhas, há um tanque, chamado em hebraico Betesda, o qual tem cinco alpendres.

3 I n these lay a great number of sick folk—some blind, some crippled, and some paralyzed (shriveled up)— waiting for the bubbling up of the water.

Nestes jazia grande multidão de enfermos, cegos, mancos e ressicados

4 F or an angel of the Lord went down at appointed seasons into the pool and moved and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was cured of whatever disease with which he was afflicted.

5 T here was a certain man there who had suffered with a deep-seated and lingering disorder for thirty-eight years.

Achava-se ali um homem que, havia trinta e oito anos, estava enfermo.

6 W hen Jesus noticed him lying there, knowing that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, Do you want to become well?

Jesus, vendo-o deitado e sabendo que estava assim havia muito tempo, perguntou-lhe: Queres ficar são?

7 T he invalid answered, Sir, I have nobody when the water is moving to put me into the pool; but while I am trying to come myself, somebody else steps down ahead of me.

Respondeu-lhe o enfermo: Senhor, não tenho ninguém que, ao ser agitada a água, me ponha no tanque; assim, enquanto eu vou, desce outro antes de mim.

8 J esus said to him, Get up! Pick up your bed (sleeping pad) and walk!

Disse-lhe Jesus: Levanta-te, toma o teu leito e anda.

9 I nstantly the man became well and recovered his strength and picked up his bed and walked. But that happened on the Sabbath.

Imediatamente o homem ficou são; e, tomando o seu leito, começou a andar. Ora, aquele dia era sábado.

10 S o the Jews kept saying to the man who had been healed, It is the Sabbath, and you have no right to pick up your bed.

Pelo que disseram os judeus ao que fora curado: Hoje é sábado, e não te é lícito carregar o leito.

11 H e answered them, The Man Who healed me and gave me back my strength, He Himself said to me, Pick up your bed and walk!

Ele, porém, lhes respondeu: Aquele que me curou, esse mesmo me disse: Toma o teu leito e anda.

12 T hey asked him, Who is the Man Who told you, Pick up your bed and walk?

Perguntaram-lhe, pois: Quem é o homem que te disse: Toma o teu leito e anda?

13 N ow the invalid who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had quietly gone away, since there was a crowd in the place.

Mas o que fora curado não sabia quem era; porque Jesus se retirara, por haver muita gente naquele lugar.

14 A fterward, when Jesus found him in the temple, He said to him, See, you are well! Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.

Depois Jesus o encontrou no templo, e disse-lhe: Olha, já estás curado; não peques mais, para que não te suceda coisa pior.

15 T he man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus Who had made him well.

Retirou-se, então, o homem, e contou aos judeus que era Jesus quem o curara.

16 F or this reason the Jews began to persecute (annoy, torment) Jesus and sought to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

Por isso os judeus perseguiram a Jesus, porque fazia estas coisas no sábado.

17 B ut Jesus answered them, My Father has worked until now, and I, too, must be at work.

Mas Jesus lhes respondeu: Meu Pai trabalha até agora, e eu trabalho também.

18 T his made the Jews more determined than ever to kill Him; because He not only was breaking (weakening, violating) the Sabbath, but He actually was speaking of God as being His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

Por isso, pois, os judeus ainda mais procuravam matá-lo, porque não só violava o sábado, mas também dizia que Deus era seu próprio Pai, fazendo-se igual a Deus.

19 S o Jesus answered them by saying, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way.

Disse-lhes, pois, Jesus: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que o Filho de si mesmo nada pode fazer, senão o que vir o Pai fazer; porque tudo quanto ele faz, o Filho o faz igualmente.

20 T he Father dearly loves the Son and discloses to (shows) Him everything that He Himself does. And He will disclose to Him (let Him see) greater things yet than these, so that you may marvel and be full of wonder and astonishment.

Porque o Pai ama ao Filho, e mostra-lhe tudo o que ele mesmo faz; e maiores obras do que estas lhe mostrará, para que vos maravilheis.

21 J ust as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whomever He wills and is pleased to give it.

Pois, assim como o Pai levanta os mortos e lhes dá vida, assim também o Filho dá vida a quem ele quer.

22 E ven the Father judges no one, for He has given all judgment (the last judgment and the whole business of judging) entirely into the hands of the Son,

Porque o Pai a niguém julga, mas deu ao Filho todo o julgamento,

23 S o that all men may give honor (reverence, homage) to the Son just as they give honor to the Father. whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, Who has sent Him.

para que todos honrem o Filho, assim como honram o Pai. Quem não honra o Filho, não honra o Pai que o enviou.

24 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possesses now) eternal life. And he does not come into judgment, but he has already passed over out of death into life.

Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que quem ouve a minha palavra, e crê naquele que me enviou, tem a vida eterna e não entra em juízo, mas já passou da morte para a vida.

25 B elieve Me when I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the time is coming and is here now when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear it shall live.

Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que vem a hora, e agora é, em que os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus, e os que a ouvirem viverão.

26 F or even as the Father has life in Himself and is self-existent, so He has given to the Son to have life in Himself and be self-existent.

Pois assim como o Pai tem vida em si mesmo, assim também deu ao Filho ter vida em si mesmos;

27 A nd He has given Him authority and granted Him power to execute (exercise, practice) judgment because He is a Son of man.

e deu-lhe autoridade para julgar, porque é o Filho do homem.

28 D o not be surprised and wonder at this, for the time is coming when all those who are in the tombs shall hear His voice,

Não vos admireis disso, porque vem a hora em que todos os que estão nos sepulcros ouvirão a sua voz e sairão:

29 A nd they shall come out—those who have practiced doing good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil will be raised for judgment.

os que tiverem feito o bem, para a ressurreição da vida, e os que tiverem praticado o mal, para a ressurreição do juízo.

30 I am able to do nothing from Myself. Even as I hear, I judge, and My judgment is right (just, righteous), because I do not seek or consult My own will but only the will and pleasure of the Father Who sent Me.

Eu não posso de mim mesmo fazer coisa alguma; como ouço, assim julgo; e o meu juízo é justo, porque não procuro a minha vontade, mas a vontade daquele que me enviou.

31 I f I alone testify in My behalf, My testimony is not valid and cannot be worth anything.

Se eu der testemunho de mim mesmo, o meu testemunho não é verdadeiro.

32 T here is Another Who testifies concerning Me, and I know and am certain that His evidence on My behalf is true and valid.

Outro é quem dá testemunho de mim; e sei que o testemunho que ele dá de mim é verdadeiro.

33 Y ou yourselves have sent to John and he has been a witness to the truth.

Vós mandastes mensageiros a João, e ele deu testemunho da verdade;

34 B ut I do not receive human witness; but I simply mention all these things in order that you may be saved (made and kept safe and sound).

eu, porém, não recebo testemunho de homem; mas digo isto para que sejais salvos.

35 J ohn was the lamp that kept on burning and shining, and you were willing for a while to delight (sun) yourselves in his light.

Ele era a lâmpada que ardia e alumiava; e vós quisestes alegrar-vos por um pouco de tempo com a sua luz.

36 B ut I have as My witness something greater (weightier, higher, better) than that of John; for the works that the Father has appointed Me to accomplish and finish, the very same works that I am now doing, are a witness and proof that the Father has sent Me.

Mas o testemunho que eu tenho é maior do que o de João; porque as obras que o Pai me deu para realizar, as mesmas obras que faço dão testemunho de mim que o Pai me enviou.

37 A nd the Father Who sent Me has Himself testified concerning Me. Not one of you has ever given ear to His voice or seen His form (His face—what He is like).

E o Pai que me enviou, ele mesmo tem dado testemunho de mim. Vós nunca ouvistes a sua voz, nem vistes a sua forma;

38 A nd you have not His word (His thought) living in your hearts, because you do not believe and adhere to and trust in and rely on Him Whom He has sent.

e a sua palavra não permanece em vós; porque não credes naquele que ele enviou.

39 Y ou search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these testify about Me!

Examinais as Escrituras, porque julgais ter nelas a vida eterna; e são elas que dão testemunho de mim;

40 A nd still you are not willing to come to Me, so that you might have life.

mas não quereis vir a mim para terdes vida!

41 I receive not glory from men,

Eu não recebo glória da parte dos homens;

42 B ut I know you and recognize and understand that you have not the love of God in you.

mas bem vos conheço, que não tendes em vós o amor de Deus.

43 I have come in My Father’s name and with His power, and you do not receive Me; but if another comes in his own name and his own power and with no other authority but himself, you will receive him and give him your approval.

Eu vim em nome de meu Pai, e não me recebeis; se outro vier em seu próprio nome, a esse recebereis.

44 H ow is it possible for you to believe, you who receive praise and honor and glory from one another, and yet do not seek the praise and honor and glory which come from Him Who alone is God?

Como podeis crer, vós que recebeis glória uns dos outros e não buscais a glória que vem do único Deus?

45 P ut out of your minds the thought and do not suppose that I will accuse you before the Father. There is one who accuses you—it is Moses, the very one on whom you have built your hopes.

Não penseis que eu vos hei de acusar perante o Pai. Há um que vos acusa, Moisés, em quem vós esperais.

46 F or if you believed and relied on Moses, you would believe and rely on Me, for he wrote about Me.

Pois se crêsseis em Moisés, creríeis em mim; porque de mim ele escreveu.

47 B ut if you do not believe and trust his writings, how then will you believe and trust My teachings?

Mas, se não credes nos escritos, como crereis nas minhas palavras?
