1 A fter Jesus had finished all that He had to say in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.
Quando acabou de proferir todas estas palavras aos ouvidos do povo, entrou em Cafarnaum.
2 N ow a centurion had a bond servant who was held in honor and highly valued by him, who was sick and at the point of death.
E um servo de certo centurião, de quem era muito estimado, estava doente, quase ã morte.
3 A nd when the centurion heard of Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to Him, requesting Him to come and make his bond servant well.
O centurião, pois, ouvindo falar de Jesus, enviou-lhes uns anciãos dos judeus, a pedir-lhe que viesse curar o seu servo.
4 A nd when they reached Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that You should do this for him,
E chegando eles junto de Jesus, rogavam-lhe com instância, dizendo: É digno de que lhe concedas isto;
5 F or he loves our nation and he built us our synagogue.
porque ama ã nossa nação, e ele mesmo nos edificou a sinagoga.
6 A nd Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying, Lord, do not trouble, for I am not sufficiently worthy to have You come under my roof;
Ia, pois, Jesus com eles; mas, quando já estava perto da casa, enviou o centurião uns amigos a dizer-lhe: Senhor, não te incomodes; porque não sou digno de que entres debaixo do meu telhado;
7 N either did I consider myself worthy to come to You. But speak a word, and my servant boy will be healed.
por isso nem ainda me julguei digno de ir ã tua presença; dize, porém, uma palavra, e seja o meu servo curado.
8 F or I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bond servant, Do this, and he does it.
Pois também eu sou homem sujeito ã autoridade, e tenho soldados
9 N ow when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.
Jesus, ouvindo isso, admirou-se dele e, voltando-se para a multidão que o seguia, disse: Eu vos afirmo que nem mesmo em Israel encontrei tamanha fé.
10 A nd when the messengers who had been sent returned to the house, they found the bond servant who had been ill quite well again.
E voltando para casa os que haviam sido enviados, encontraram o servo com saúde.
11 S oon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great throng accompanied Him.
Pouco depois seguiu ele viagem para uma cidade chamada Naim; e iam com ele seus discípulos e uma grande multidão.
12 a s He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was accompanying her.
Quando chegou perto da porta da cidade, eis que levavam para fora um defunto, filho único de sua mãe, que era viúva; e com ela ia uma grande multidão da cidade.
13 A nd when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.
Logo que o Senhor a viu, encheu-se de compaixão por ela, e disse-lhe: Não chores.
14 A nd He went forward and touched the funeral bier, and the pallbearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise '> from death]!
Então, chegando-se, tocou no esquife e, quando pararam os que o levavam, disse: Moço, a ti te digo: Levanta-te.
15 A nd the man dead sat up and began to speak. And gave him to his mother.
O que estivera morto sentou-se e começou a falar. Então Jesus o entregou ã sua mãe.
16 P rofound and reverent fear seized them all, and they began to recognize God and praise and give thanks, saying, A great Prophet has appeared among us! And God has visited His people!
O medo se apoderou de todos, e glorificavam a Deus, dizendo: Um grande profeta se levantou entre nós; e: Deus visitou o seu povo.
17 A nd this report concerning spread through the whole of Judea and all the country round about.
E correu a notícia disto por toda a Judéia e por toda a região circunvizinha.
18 A nd John’s disciples brought him word of all these things.
Ora, os discípulos de João anunciaram-lhe todas estas coisas.
19 A nd John summoned to him a certain two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord, saying, Are You He Who is to come, or shall we look for another?
E João, chamando a dois deles, enviou-os ao Senhor para perguntar-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou havemos de esperar outro?
20 S o the men came to Jesus and said, John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, Are You the One Who is to come, or shall we look for another?
Quando aqueles homens chegaram junto dele, disseram: João, o Batista, enviou-nos a perguntar-te: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou havemos de esperar outro?
21 I n that very hour Jesus was healing many of sicknesses and distressing bodily plagues and evil spirits, and to many who were blind He gave '> a free, gracious, joy-giving gift of] sight.
Naquela mesma hora, curou a muitos de doenças, de moléstias e de espíritos malignos; e deu vista a muitos cegos.
22 S o He replied to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the good news (the Gospel) preached to them.
Então lhes respondeu: Ide, e contai a João o que tens visto e ouvido: os cegos vêem, os coxos andam, os leprosos são purificados, e os surdos ouvem; os mortos são ressuscitados, e aos pobres é anunciado o evangelho.
23 A nd blessed (happy— with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from outward conditions—and to be envied) is he who takes no offense in Me and who is not hurt or resentful or annoyed or repelled or made to stumble '> whatever may occur].
E bem-aventurado aquele que não se escandalizar de mim.
24 A nd the messengers of John having departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out into the desert to gaze on? A reed shaken and swayed by the wind?
E, tendo-se retirado os mensageiros de João, Jesus começou a dizer
25 T hen what did you go out to see? A man dressed up in soft garments? Behold, those who wear fine apparel and live in luxury are in the courts or palaces of kings.
Mas que saístes a ver? um homem trajado de vestes luxuosas? Eis que aqueles que trajam roupas preciosas, e vivem em delícias, estão nos paços reais.
26 W hat then did you go out to see? A prophet (a forthteller)? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.
Mas que saístes a ver? um profeta? Sim, vos digo, e muito mais do que profeta.
27 T his is the one of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who shall make ready Your way before You.
Este é aquele de quem está escrito: Eis aí envio ante a tua face o meu mensageiro, que há de preparar adiante de ti o teu caminho.
28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; but he that is inferior in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
Pois eu vos digo que, entre os nascidos de mulher, não há nenhum maior do que João; mas aquele que é o menor no re medida com é maior do que ele.
29 A nd all the people who heard Him, even the tax collectors, acknowledged the justice of God '> calling them to repentance and in pronouncing future wrath on the impenitent], being baptized with the baptism of John.
E todo o povo que o ouviu, e até os publicanos, reconheceram a justiça de Deus, recebendo o batismo de João.
30 B ut the Pharisees and the lawyers annulled and rejected and brought to nothing God’s purpose concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.
Mas os fariseus e os doutores da lei rejeitaram o conselho de Deus quando a si mesmos, não sendo batizados por ele.
31 S o to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And what are they like?
A que, pois, compararei os homens desta geração, e a que são semelhantes?
32 T hey are like little children sitting in the marketplace, calling to one another and saying, We piped to you, and you did not dance; we sang dirges and wailed, and you did not weep.
São semelhantes aos meninos que, sentados nas praças, gritam uns para os outros: Tocamo-vos flauta, e não dançastes; cantamos lamentações, e não chorastes.
33 F or John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon.
Porquanto veio João, o Batista, não comendo pão nem bebendo vinho, e dizeis: Tem demônio;
34 T he Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a Man Who is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and notorious sinners.
veio o Filho do homem, comendo e bebendo, e dizeis: Eis aí um comilão e bebedor de vinho, amigo de publicanos e pecadores.
35 Y et wisdom is vindicated ( shown to be true and divine) by all her children '> by their life, character, and deeds].
Mas a sabedoria é justificada por todos os seus filhos.
36 O ne of the Pharisees asked Jesus to dine with him, and He went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.
Um dos fariseus convidou-o para comer com ele; e entrando em casa do fariseu, reclinou-se ã mesa.
37 A nd behold, a woman of the town who was an especially wicked sinner, when she learned that He was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment (perfume).
E eis que uma mulher pecadora que havia na cidade, quando soube que ele estava ã mesa em casa do fariseu, trouxe um vaso de alabastro com bálsamo;
38 A nd standing behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet and anointed them with the ointment (perfume).
e estando por detrás, aos seus pés, chorando, começou a regar-lhe os pés com lágrimas e os enxugava com os cabelos da sua cabeça; e beijava-lhe os pés e ungia-os com o bálsamo.
39 N ow when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he said to himself, If this Man were a prophet, He would surely know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching Him—for she is a notorious sinner (a social outcast, devoted to sin).
Mas, ao ver isso, o fariseu que o convidara falava consigo, dizendo: Se este homem fosse profeta, saberia quem e de que qualidade é essa mulher que o toca, pois é uma pecadora.
40 A nd Jesus, replying, said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he answered, Teacher, say it.
E respondendo Jesus, disse-lhe: Simão, tenho uma coisa a dizer-te. Respondeu ele: Dize-a, Mestre.
41 A certain lender of money had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
Certo credor tinha dois devedores; um lhe devia quinhentos denários, e outro cinquenta.
42 W hen they had no means of paying, he freely forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?
Não tendo eles com que pagar, perdoou a ambos. Qual deles, pois, o amará mais?
43 S imon answered, The one, I take it, for whom he forgave and cancelled more. And Jesus said to him, You have decided correctly.
Respondeu Simão: Suponho que é aquele a quem mais perdoou. Replicou-lhe Jesus: Julgaste bem.
44 T hen turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
E, voltando-se para a mulher, disse a Simão: Vês tu esta mulher? Entrei em tua casa, e não me deste água para os pés; mas esta com suas lágrimas os regou e com seus cabelos os enxugou.
45 Y ou gave Me no kiss, but she from the moment I came in has not ceased '> intermittently] to kiss My feet tenderly and caressingly.
Não me deste ósculo; ela, porém, desde que entrei, não tem cessado de beijar-me os pés.
46 Y ou did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume.
Não me ungiste a cabeça com óleo; mas esta com bálsamo ungiu-me os pés.
47 T herefore I tell you, her sins, many, are forgiven her—because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.
Por isso te digo: Perdoados lhe são os pecados, que são muitos; porque ela muito amou; mas aquele a quem pouco se perdoa, pouco ama.
48 A nd He said to her, Your sins are forgiven!
E disse a ela: Perdoados são os teus pecados.
49 T hen those who were at table with Him began to say among themselves, Who is this Who even forgives sins?
Mas os que estavam com ele ã mesa começaram a dizer entre si: Quem é este que até perdoa pecados?
50 B ut Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go (enter) into peace '> in freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin].
Jesus, porém, disse ã mulher: A tua fé te salvou; vai-te em paz.
