1 W hen Ephraim spoke with trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended and became guilty in Baal worship, he died.

Quando Efraim falava, tremia-se; foi exaltado em Israel; mas quando ele se fez culpado no tocante a Baal, morreu.

2 A nd now they sin more and more and have made for themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. To these they speak or pray who sacrifice to them; they kiss and show homage to the calves!

E agora pecam mais e mais, e da sua prata fazem imagens fundidas, ídolos segundo o seu entendimento, todos eles obra de artífices, e dizem: Oferecei sacrifícios a estes. Homens beijam aos bezerros!

3 T herefore they shall be like the morning mist or like the dew that passes early away, like the chaff that swirls with the whirlwind from the threshing floor and as the smoke out of the chimney or through the window.

Por isso serão como a nuvem de manhã, e como o orvalho que cedo passa; como a palha que se lança fora da eira, e como a fumaça que sai pela janela.

4 Y et I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know or recognize no God but Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.

Todavia, eu sou o Senhor teu Deus desde a terra do Egito; portanto não conhecerás outro deus além de mim, porque não há salvador senão eu.

5 I knew (recognized, understood, and had regard for) you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

Eu te conheci no deserto, em terra muito seca.

6 A ccording to their pasture, so were they filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore have they forgotten Me.

Depois eles se fartaram em proporção do seu pasto; e estando fartos, ensoberbeceu-se-lhes o coração, por isso esqueceram de mim.

7 T herefore I have become to them like a lion; like a leopard I will lurk by the way and watch them.

Portanto serei para eles como leão; como leopardo espreitarei junto ao caminho;

8 I will meet them like a bear that is robbed of her cubs, and I will rend the covering of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lioness, as a wild beast would tear them.

Como ursa roubada dos seus cachorros lhes sairei ao encontro, e lhes romperei as teias do coração; e ali os devorarei como leoa; as feras do campo os despedaçarão.

9 I t is your destruction, O Israel, that you have been against Me, for in Me is your help.

Destruir-te-ei, ó Israel; quem te pode socorrer?

10 W here now is your king that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges of whom you said, Give me a king and princes?

Onde está agora o teu rei, para que te salve em todas as tuas cidades? e os teus juízes, dos quais disseste: Dá-me rei e príncipes?

11 I have given you a king in My anger, and I have taken him away in My wrath.

Dei-te um rei na minha ira, e tirei-o no meu furor.

12 T he iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store.

A iniqüidade de Efraim está atada, o seu pecado está armazenado.

13 T he pains of a woman in childbirth are coming on for him; but he is an unwise son, for now when it is time, he comes not to the place where children break forth.

Dores de mulher de parto lhe sobrevirão; ele é filho insensato; porque é tempo e não está no lugar em que deve vir ã luz.

14 S hould I ransom them from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead)? Should I redeem them from death? O death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your destruction? Relenting and compassion are hidden from My eyes.

Eu os remirei do poder do Seol, e os resgatarei da morte. Onde estão, ó morte, as tuas pragas? Onde está, ó Seol, a tua destruição? A compaixão está escondida de meus olhos.

15 F or though among his brethren he may be fruitful, an east wind will come, the breath of the Lord rising from the desert; and Ephraim’s spring shall become dry and his fountain be dried up. shall plunder his treasury of every precious vessel.

Ainda que ele dê fruto entre os seus irmãos, virá o vento oriental, vento do Senhor, subindo do deserto, e secar-se-á a sua nascente, e se estancará a sua fonte; ele saqueará o tesouro de todos os vasos desejáveis.

16 S amaria shall bear her guilt and become desolate, for she rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women shall be ripped up.

Samária levará sobre si a sua culpa, porque se rebelou contra o seu Deus; cairá ã espada; seus filhinhos serão despedaçados, e as suas mulheres grávidas serão fendidas.
