1 I t occurred one Sabbath, when went for a meal at the house of one of the ruling Pharisees, that they were watching Him.

Tendo Jesus entrado, num sábado, em casa de um dos chefes dos fariseus para comer pão, eles o estavam observando.

2 A nd behold, in front of Him there was a man who had dropsy.

Achava-se ali diante dele certo homem hidrópico.

3 A nd Jesus asked the lawyers and the Pharisees, Is it lawful and right to cure on the Sabbath or not?

E Jesus, tomando a palavra, falou aos doutores da lei e aos fariseus, e perguntou: É lícito curar no sábado, ou não?

4 B ut they kept silent. Then He took hold and cured him and sent him away.

Eles, porém, ficaram calados. E Jesus, pegando no homem, o curou, e o despediu.

5 A nd He said to them, Which of you, having a son or a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a well, will not at once pull him out on the Sabbath day?

Então lhes perguntou: Qual de vós, se lhe cair num poço um filho, ou um boi, não o tirará logo, mesmo em dia de sábado?

6 A nd they were unable to reply to this.

A isto nada puderam responder.

7 N ow He told a parable to those who were invited, He noticed how they were selecting the places of honor, saying to them,

Ao notar como os convidados escolhiam os primeiros lugares, propôs-lhes esta parábola:

8 W hen you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, do not recline on the chief seat, lest a more distinguished person than you has been invited by him,

Quando por alguém fores convidado

9 A nd he who invited both of you will come to you and say, Let this man have the place. Then, with humiliation and a guilty sense of impropriety, you will begin to take the lowest place.

e vindo o que te convidou a ti e a ele, te diga: Dá o lugar a este; e então, com vergonha, tenhas de tomar o último lugar.

10 B ut when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when your host comes in, he may say to you, Friend, go up higher! Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit with you.

Mas, quando fores convidado, vai e reclina-te no último lugar, para que, quando vier o que te convidou, te diga: Amigo, sobe mais para cima. Então terás honra diante de todos os que estiverem contigo ã mesa.

11 F or everyone who exalts himself will be humbled (ranked below others who are honored or rewarded), and he who humbles himself (keeps a modest opinion of himself and behaves accordingly) will be exalted (elevated in rank).

Porque todo o que a si mesmo se exaltar será humilhado, e aquele que a si mesmo se humilhar será exaltado.

12 J esus also said to the man who had invited Him, When you give a dinner or a supper, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they also invite you in return, and so you are paid back.

Disse também ao que o havia convidado: Quando deres um jantar, ou uma ceia, não convides teus amigos, nem teus irmãos, nem teus parentes, nem os vizinhos ricos, para que não suceda que também eles te tornem a convidar, e te seja isso retribuído.

13 B ut when you give a banquet or a reception, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind.

Mas quando deres um banquete, convida os pobres, os aleijados, os mancos e os cegos;

14 T hen you will be blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied), because they have no way of repaying you, and you will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (upright).

e serás bem-aventurado; porque eles não têm com que te retribuir; pois retribuído te será na ressurreição dos justos.

15 W hen one of those who reclined with Him heard this, he said to Him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!

Ao ouvir isso um dos que estavam com ele ã mesa, disse-lhe: Bem-aventurado aquele que comer pão no reino de Deus.

16 B ut Jesus said to him, A man was once giving a great supper and invited many;

Jesus, porém, lhe disse: Certo homem dava uma grande ceia, e convidou a muitos.

17 A nd at the hour for the supper he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, Come, for all is now ready.

E ã hora da ceia mandou o seu servo dizer aos convidados: vinde, porque tudo já está preparado.

18 B ut they all alike began to make excuses and to beg off. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I have to go out and see it; I beg you, have me excused.

Mas todos ã uma começaram a escusar-se. Disse-lhe o primeiro: Comprei um campo, e preciso ir vê-lo; rogo-te que me dês por escusado.

19 A nd another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to examine and put my approval on them; I beg you, have me excused.

Outro disse: Comprei cinco juntas de bois, e vou experimentá-los; rogo-te que me dês por escusado.

20 A nd another said, I have married a wife, and because of this I am unable to come.

Ainda outro disse: Casei-me e portanto não posso ir.

21 S o the servant came and reported these to his master. Then the master of the house said in wrath to his servant, Go quickly into the great streets and the small streets of the city and bring in here the poor and the disabled and the blind and the lame.

Voltou o servo e contou tudo isto a seu senhor: Então o dono da casa, indignado, disse a seu servo: Sai depressa para as ruas e becos da cidade e traze aqui os pobres, os aleijados, os cegos e os coxos.

22 A nd the servant said, Sir, what you have commanded me to do has been done, and yet there is room.

Depois disse o servo: Senhor, feito está como o ordenaste, e ainda há lugar.

23 T hen the master said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges and urge and constrain to yield and come in, so that my house may be filled.

Respondeu o senhor ao servo: Sai pelos caminhos e valados, e obriga-os a entrar, para que a minha casa se encha.

24 F or I tell you, not one of those who were invited shall taste my supper.

Pois eu vos digo que nenhum daqueles homens que foram convidados provará a minha ceia.

25 N ow huge crowds were going along with, and He turned and said to them,

Ora, iam com ele grandes multidões; e, voltando-se, disse-lhes:

26 I f anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother '> in the sense of indifference to or relative disregard for them in comparison with his attitude toward God] and his wife and children and brothers and sisters— and even his own life also—he cannot be My disciple.

Se alguém vier a mim, e não aborrecer a pai e mãe, a mulher e filhos, a irmãos e irmãs, e ainda também ã própria vida, não pode ser meu discípulo.

27 W hoever does not persevere and carry his own cross and come after (follow) Me cannot be My disciple.

Quem não leva a sua cruz e não me segue, não pode ser meu discípulo.

28 F or which of you, wishing to build a farm building, does not first sit down and calculate the cost whether he has sufficient means to finish it?

Pois qual de vós, querendo edificar uma torre, não se senta primeiro a calcular as despesas, para ver se tem com que a acabar?

29 O therwise, when he has laid the foundation and is unable to complete, all who see it will begin to mock and jeer at him,

Para não acontecer que, depois de haver posto os alicerces, e não a podendo acabar, todos os que a virem comecem a zombar dele,

30 S aying, This man began to build and was not able ( worth enough) to finish.

dizendo: Este homem começou a edificar e não pode acabar.

31 O r what king, going out to engage in conflict with another king, will not first sit down and consider and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

Ou qual é o rei que, indo entrar em guerra contra outro rei, não se senta primeiro a consultar se com dez mil pode sair ao encontro do que vem contra ele com vinte mil?

32 A nd if he cannot, when the other king is still a great way off, he sends an envoy and asks the terms of peace.

No caso contrário, enquanto o outro ainda está longe, manda embaixadores, e pede condições de paz.

33 S o then, any of you who does not forsake (renounce, surrender claim to, give up, say good-bye to) all that he has cannot be My disciple.

Assim, pois, todo aquele dentre vós que não renuncia a tudo quanto possui, não pode ser meu discípulo.

34 S alt is good, but if salt has lost its strength and has become saltless (insipid, flat), how shall its saltness be restored?

Bom é o sal; mas se o sal se tornar insípido, com que se há de restaurar-lhe o sabor?

35 I t is fit neither for the land nor for the manure heap; men throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him listen and consider and comprehend by hearing!

Não presta nem para terra, nem para adubo; lançam-no fora. Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir, ouça.
