1 P eter, an apostle (a special messenger) of Jesus Christ, to the elect exiles of the dispersion scattered (sowed) abroad in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

2 W ho were chosen and foreknown by God the Father and consecrated (sanctified, made holy) by the Spirit to be obedient to Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and to be sprinkled with blood: May grace (spiritual blessing) and peace be given you in increasing abundance '> realized in and through Christ, freedom from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts].

eleitos segundo a presciência de Deus Pai, na santificação do Espírito, para a obediência e aspersão do sangue de Jesus Cristo: Graça e paz vos sejam multiplicadas.

3 P raised (honored, blessed) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que, segundo a sua grande misericórdia, nos regenerou para uma viva esperança, pela ressurreição de Jesus Cristo dentre os mortos,

4 i nto an inheritance which is beyond the reach of change and decay, unsullied and unfading, reserved in heaven for you,

para uma herança incorruptível, incontaminável e imarcescível, reservada nos céus para vós,

5 W ho are being guarded (garrisoned) by God’s power through faith '> final] salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

que pelo poder de Deus sois guardados, mediante a fé, para a salvação que está preparada para se revelar no último tempo;

6 b e exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations,

na qual exultais, ainda que agora por um pouco de tempo, sendo necessário, estejais contristados por várias provações,

7 S o that of your faith may be tested, which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. to redound to praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed.

para que a prova da vossa fé, mais preciosa do que o ouro que perece, embora provado pelo fogo, redunde para louvor, glória e honra na revelação de Jesus Cristo;

8 W ithout having seen Him, you love Him; though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and exult and thrill with inexpressible and glorious (triumphant, heavenly) joy.

a quem, sem o terdes visto, amais; no qual, sem agora o verdes, mas crendo, exultais com gozo inefável e cheio de glória,

9 y ou receive the result (outcome, consummation) of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

alcançando o fim da vossa fé, a salvação das vossas almas.

10 T he prophets, who prophesied of the grace (divine blessing) which was intended for you, searched and inquired earnestly about this salvation.

Desta salvação inquiririam e indagaram diligentemente os profetas que profetizaram da graça que para vós era destinada,

11 T hey sought to whom or when this was to come which the Spirit of Christ working within them was indicating when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow.

indagando qual o tempo ou qual a ocasião que o Espírito de Cristo que estava neles indicava, ao predizer os sofrimentos que a Cristo haviam de vir, e a glória que se lhes havia de seguir.

12 I t was then disclosed to them that the services they were rendering were not meant for themselves and their period of time, but for you. things which have now already been made known plainly to you by those who preached the good news (the Gospel) to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Into these things angels long to look!

Aos quais foi revelado que não para si mesmos, mas para vós, eles ministravam estas coisas que agora vos foram anunciadas por aqueles que, pelo Espírito Santo enviado do céu, vos pregaram o evangelho; para as quais coisas os anjos bem desejam atentar.

13 S o brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed.

Portanto, cingindo os lombos do vosso entendimento, sede sóbrios, e esperai inteiramente na graça que se vos oferece na revelação de Jesus Cristo.

14 a s children of obedience; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires in your former ignorance.

Como filhos obedientes, não vos conformeis

15 B ut as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living.

mas, como é santo aquele que vos chamou, sede vós também santos em todo o vosso procedimento;

16 F or it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy.

porquanto está escrito: Sereis santos, porque eu sou santo.

17 A nd if you call upon Him as Father Who judges each one impartially according to what he does, you should conduct yourselves with true reverence throughout the time of your temporary residence.

E, se invocais por Pai aquele que, sem acepção de pessoas, julga segundo a obra de cada um, andai em temor durante o tempo da vossa peregrinação,

18 Y ou must know (recognize) that you were redeemed (ransomed) from the useless (fruitless) way of living inherited by tradition from forefathers, not with corruptible things silver and gold,

sabendo que não foi com coisas corruptíveis, como prata ou ouro, que fostes resgatados da vossa vã maneira de viver, que por tradição recebestes dos vossos pais,

19 B ut with the precious blood of Christ (the Messiah), like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

mas com precioso sangue, como de um cordeiro sem defeito e sem mancha, o sangue de Cristo,

20 I t is true that He was chosen and foreordained (destined and foreknown for it) before the foundation of the world, but He was brought out to public view (made manifest) in these last days (at the end of the times) for the sake of you.

o qual, na verdade, foi conhecido ainda antes da fundação do mundo, mas manifesto no fim dos tempos por amor de vós,

21 T hrough Him you believe in (adhere to, rely on) God, Who raised Him up from the dead and gave Him honor and glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

que por ele credes em Deus, que o ressuscitou dentre os mortos e lhe deu glória, de modo que a vossa fé e esperança estivessem em Deus.

22 S ince by your obedience to the Truth through the Spirit you have purified your hearts for the sincere affection of the brethren, love one another fervently from a pure heart.

Já que tendes purificado as vossas almas na obediência ã verdade, que leva ao amor fraternal não fingido, de coração amai-vos ardentemente uns aos outros,

23 Y ou have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin ( seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.

tendo renascido, não de semente corruptível, mas de incorruptível, pela palavra de Deus, a qual vive e permanece.

24 F or all flesh (mankind) is like grass, and all its glory (honor) like flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower drops off,

Porque: Toda a carne é como a erva, e toda a sua glória como a flor da erva. Secou-se a erva, e caiu a sua flor;

25 B ut the Word of the Lord ( divine instruction, the Gospel) endures forever. And this Word is the good news which was preached to you.

mas a palavra do Senhor permanece para sempre. E esta é a palavra que vos foi evangelizada.
