1 T he wicked flee when no man pursues them, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Fogem os ímpios, sem que ninguém os persiga; mas os justos são ousados como o leão.

2 W hen a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but when the ruler is a man of discernment, understanding, and knowledge, its stability will long continue.

Por causa da transgressão duma terra são muitos os seus príncipes; mas por virtude de homens prudentes e entendidos, ela subsistirá por longo tempo.

3 A poor man who oppresses the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaves no food.

O homem pobre que oprime os pobres, é como chuva impetuosa, que não deixa trigo nenhum.

4 T hose who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law contend with them.

Os que abandonam a lei louvam os ímpios; mas os que guardam a lei pelejam contra eles.

5 E vil men do not understand justice, but they who crave and seek the Lord understand it fully.

Os homens maus não entendem a justiça; mas os que buscam ao Senhor a entendem plenamente.

6 B etter is the poor man who walks in his integrity than he who willfully goes in double and wrong ways, though he is rich.

Melhor é o pobre que anda na sua integridade, do que o rico perverso nos seus caminhos.

7 W hoever keeps the law is a wise son, but he who is a companion of gluttons and the carousing, self-indulgent, and extravagant shames his father.

O que guarda a lei é filho sábio; mas o companheiro dos comilões envergonha a seu pai.

8 H e who by charging excessive interest and who by unjust efforts to get gain increases his material possession gathers it for him who is kind and generous to the poor.

O que aumenta a sua riqueza com juros e usura, ajunta-a para o que se compadece do pobre.

9 H e who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination, hateful and revolting.

O que desvia os seus ouvidos de ouvir a lei, até a sua oração é abominável.

10 W hoever leads the upright astray into an evil way, he will himself fall into his own pit, but the blameless will have a goodly inheritance.

O que faz com que os retos se desviem para um mau caminho, ele mesmo cairá na cova que abriu; mas os inocentes herdarão o bem.

11 T he rich man is wise in his own eyes and conceit, but the poor man who has understanding will find him out.

O homem rico é sábio aos seus próprios olhos; mas o pobre que tem entendimento o esquadrinha.

12 W hen the righteous triumph, there is great glory and celebration; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.

Quando os justos triunfam há grande, glória; mas quando os ímpios sobem, escondem-se os homens.

13 H e who covers his transgressions will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes his sins will obtain mercy.

O que encobre as suas transgressões nunca prosperará; mas o que as confessa e deixa, alcançará misericórdia.

14 B lessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) is the man who reverently and worshipfully fears at all times, but he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

Feliz é o homem que teme ao Senhor continuamente; mas o que endurece o seu coração virá a cair no mal.

15 L ike a roaring lion or a ravenous and charging bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people.

Como leão bramidor, e urso faminto, assim é o ímpio que domina sobre um povo pobre.

16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates covetousness and unjust gain shall prolong his days.

O príncipe falto de entendimento é também opressor cruel; mas o que aborrece a avareza prolongará os seus dias.

17 I f a man willfully sheds the blood of a person, he is fleeing to the pit (the grave) and hastening to his own destruction; let no man stop him!

O homem culpado do sangue de qualquer pessoa será fugitivo até a morte; ninguém o ajude.

18 H e who walks uprightly shall be safe, but he who willfully goes in double and wrong ways shall fall in one of them.

O que anda retamente salvar-se-á; mas o perverso em seus caminhos cairá de repente.

19 H e who cultivates his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless people and pursuits will have poverty enough.

O que lavra a sua terra se fartará de pão; mas o que segue os ociosos se encherá de pobreza.

20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to be rich shall not go unpunished.

O homem fiel gozará de abundantes bênçãos; mas o que se apressa a enriquecer não ficará impune.

21 T o have respect of persons and to show partiality is not good, neither is it good that man should transgress for a piece of bread.

Fazer acepção de pessoas não é bom; mas até por um bocado de pão prevaricará o homem.

22 H e who has an evil and covetous eye hastens to be rich and knows not that want will come upon him.

Aquele que é cobiçoso corre atrás das riquezas; e não sabe que há de vir sobre ele a penúria.

23 H e who rebukes a man shall afterward find more favor than he who flatters with the tongue.

O que repreende a um homem achará depois mais favor do que aquele que lisonjeia com a língua.

24 W hoever robs his father or his mother and says, This is no sin—he is in the same class as a destroyer.

O que rouba a seu pai, ou a sua mãe, e diz: Isso não é transgressão; esse é companheiro do destruidor.

25 H e who is of a greedy spirit stirs up strife, but he who puts his trust in the Lord shall be enriched and blessed.

O cobiçoso levanta contendas; mas o que confia no senhor prosperará.

26 H e who leans on, trusts in, and is confident of his own mind and heart is a fool, but he who walks in skillful and godly Wisdom shall be delivered.

O que confia no seu próprio coração é insensato; mas o que anda sabiamente será livre.

27 H e who gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will have many a curse.

O que dá ao pobre não terá falta; mas o que esconde os seus olhos terá muitas maldições.

28 W hen the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase and become many.

Quando os ímpios sobem, escondem-se os homens; mas quando eles perecem, multiplicam-se os justos.
