1 W oe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome and smitten down with wine!

Ai da vaidosa coroa dos bêbedos de Efraim, e da flor murchada do seu glorioso ornamento, que está sobre a cabeça do fértil vale dos vencidos do vinho.

2 B ehold, the Lord has a strong and mighty one; like a tempest of hail, a destroying storm, like a flood of mighty overflowing waters, he will cast it down to the earth with violent hand.

Eis que o Senhor tem um valente e poderoso; como tempestade de saraiva, tormenta destruidora, como tempestade de impetuosas águas que transbordam, ele a derrubará violentamente por terra.

3 W ith feet the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim will be trodden down.

A vaidosa coroa dos bêbedos de Efraim será pisada aos pés;

4 A nd the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley, will be like the early fig before the fruit harvest, which, when anyone sees it, he snatches and eats it up greedily at once.

e a flor murchada do seu glorioso ornamento, que está sobre a cabeça do fértil vale, será como figo que amadurece antes do verão, que, vendo-o alguém, e mal tomando-o na mão, o engole.

5 i n that '> Messianic] day the Lord of hosts shall become a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of His people,

Naquele dia o Senhor dos exércitos será por coroa de glória e diadema de formosura para o restante de seu povo;

6 A nd a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment and administers the law, and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

e por espírito de juízo para o que se assenta a julgar, e por fortaleza para os que fazem recuar a peleja até a porta.

7 B ut even these reel from wine and stagger from strong drink: the priest and the prophet reel from strong drink; they are confused from wine, they stagger and are gone astray through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble when pronouncing judgment.

Mas também estes cambaleiam por causa do vinho, e com a bebida forte se desencaminham; até o sacerdote e o profeta cambaleiam por causa da bebida forte, estão tontos do vinho, desencaminham-se por causa da bebida forte; erram na visão, e tropeçam no juizo.

8 F or all the tables are full of filthy vomit, so that there is no place that is clean.

Pois todas as suas mesas estão cheias de vômitos e de sujidade, e não há lugar que esteja limpo.

9 T o whom will He teach knowledge? And whom will He make to understand the message? Those who are babies, just weaned from the milk and taken from the breasts?

Ora, a quem ensinará ele o conhecimento? e a quem fará entender a mensagem? aos desmamados, e aos arrancados dos seios?

10 F or it is: precept upon precept, precept upon precept, rule upon rule, rule upon rule; here a little, there a little.

Pois é preceito sobre preceito, preceito sobre preceito; regra sobre regra, regra sobre regra; um pouco aqui, um pouco ali.

11 N o, but by men with stammering lips and another tongue will He speak to this people.

Na verdade por lábios estranhos e por outra língua falará a este povo;

12 T o these had said, This is the true rest that you shall give to the weary, and, This is the refreshing—yet they would not listen.

ao qual disse: Este é o descanso, dai descanso ao cansado; e este é o refrigério; mas não quiseram ouvir.

13 T herefore the word of the Lord will be to them: precept upon precept, precept upon precept, rule upon rule, rule upon rule; here a little, there a little—that they may go and fall backward, and be broken and snared and taken.

Assim pois a palavra do Senhor lhes será preceito sobre preceito, preceito sobre preceito; regra sobre regra, regra sobre regra; um pouco aqui, um pouco ali; para que vão, e caiam para trás, e fiquem quebrantados, enlaçados, e presos.

14 T herefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem!

Ouvi, pois, a palavra do Senhor, homens escarnecedores, que dominais este povo que está em Jerusalém.

15 B ecause you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol (the place of the dead) we have an agreement—when the overflowing scourge passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter.

Porquanto dizeis: Fizemos pacto com a morte, e com o Seol fizemos aliança; quando passar o flagelo trasbordante, não chegará a nós; porque fizemos da mentira o nosso refúgio, e debaixo da falsidade nos escondemos.

16 T herefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a Stone, a tested Stone, a precious Cornerstone of sure foundation; he who believes (trusts in, relies on, and adheres to that Stone) will not be ashamed or give way or hasten away.

Portanto assim diz o Senhor Deus: Eis que ponho em Sião como alicerce uma pedra, uma pedra provada, pedra preciosa de esquina, de firme fundamento; aquele que crer não se apressará.

17 I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plummet; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the hiding place (the shelter).

E farei o juízo a linha para medir, e a justiça o prumo; e a saraiva varrerá o refúgio da mentira, e as águas inundarão o esconderijo.

18 A nd your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol (the place of the dead) shall not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, then you will be trodden down by it.

E o vosso pacto com a morte será anulado; e a vossa aliança com o Seol não subsistirá; e, quando passar o flagelo trasbordante, sereis abatidos por ele.

19 A s often as it passes through, it will take you; for morning by morning will it pass through, by day and by night. And it will be utter terror merely to hear and comprehend the report and the message of it.

Todas as vezes que passar, vos arrebatará; porque de manhã em manhã passará, de dia e de noite; e será motivo de terror o só ouvir tal notícia.

20 F or the bed is too short for a man to stretch himself on and the covering too narrow for him to wrap himself in.

Pois a cama é tão curta que nela ninguém se pode estender; e o cobertor tão estreito que com ele ninguém se pode cobrir.

21 F or the Lord will rise up as on Mount Perazim, He will be wrathful as in the Valley of Gibeon, that He may do His work, His strange work, and bring to pass His act, His strange act.

Porque o Senhor se levantará como no monte Perazim, e se irará como no vale de Gibeão, para realizar a sua obra, a sua estranha obra, e para executar o seu ato, o seu estranho ato.

22 N ow therefore do not be scoffers, lest the bands which bind you be made strong; for a decree of destruction have I heard from the Lord God of hosts upon the whole land and the whole earth.

Agora, pois, não sejais escarnecedores, para que os vossos grilhões não se façam mais fortes; porque da parte do Senhor Deus dos exércitos ouvi um decreto de destruição completa e decisiva, sobre toda terra.

23 G ive ear and hear my voice; listen and hear my words.

Inclinai os ouvidos, e ouvi a minha voz; escutai, e ouvi o meu discurso.

24 D oes he who plows for sowing plow continually? Does he continue to plow and harrow the ground after it is smooth?

Porventura lavra continuamente o lavrador, para semear? ou está sempre abrindo e esterroando a sua terra?

25 W hen he has leveled its surface, does he not cast abroad dill or fennel and scatter cummin, and put the wheat in rows, and barley in its intended place, and spelt as the border?

Não é antes assim: quando já tem nivelado a sua superfície, então espalha a nigela, semeia o cominho, lança o trigo a eito, a cevada no lugar determinado e a espelta na margem?

26 f or his God instructs him correctly and teaches him.

Pois o seu Deus o instrui devidamente e o ensina.

27 F or dill is not threshed with a sharp threshing instrument, nor is a cartwheel rolled over cummin; but dill is beaten off with a staff, and cummin with a rod.

Porque a nigela não se trilha com instrumento de trilhar, nem sobre o cominho passa a roda de carro; mas a nigela é debulhada com uma vara, e o cominho com um pau.

28 D oes one crush bread grain? No, he does not thresh it continuously. But when he has driven his cartwheel and his horses over it, he scatters it without having crushed it.

Acaso é esmiuçado o trigo? não; não se trilha continuamente, nem se esmiúça com as rodas do seu carro e os seus cavalos; não se esmiúça.

29 T his also comes from the Lord of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel excellent in wisdom and effectual working.

Até isso procede do Senhor dos exércitos, que é maravilhoso em conselho e grande em obra.
