1 A nd again Jesus spoke to them in parables (comparisons, stories used to illustrate and explain), saying,

Então Jesus tornou a falar-lhes por parábolas, dizendo:

2 T he kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son

O reino dos céus é semelhante a um rei que celebrou as bodas de seu filho.

3 A nd sent his servants to summon those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they refused to come.

Enviou os seus servos a chamar os convidados para as bodas, e estes não quiseram vir.

4 A gain he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my banquet; my bullocks and my fat calves are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the wedding feast.

Depois enviou outros servos, ordenando: Dizei aos convidados: Eis que tenho o meu jantar preparado; os meus bois e cevados já estão mortos, e tudo está pronto; vinde

5 B ut they were not concerned and paid no attention and they went away—one to his farm, another to his business,

Eles, porém, não fazendo caso, foram, um para o seu campo, outro para o seu negócio;

6 W hile the others seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and put them to death.

e os outros, apoderando-se dos servos, os ultrajaram e mataram.

7 t he king was infuriated; and he sent his soldiers and put those murderers to death and burned their city.

Mas o rei encolerizou-se; e enviando os seus exércitos, destruiu aqueles homicidas, e incendiou a sua cidade.

8 T hen he said to his servants, The wedding is prepared, but those invited were not worthy.

Então disse aos seus servos: As bodas, na verdade, estão preparadas, mas os convidados não eram dignos.

9 S o go to the thoroughfares where they leave the city and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.

Ide, pois, pelas encruzilhadas dos caminhos, e a quantos encontrardes, convidai-os para as bodas.

10 A nd those servants went out on the crossroads and got together as many as they found, both bad and good, so the wedding feast was filled with guests.

E saíram aqueles servos pelos caminhos, e ajuntaram todos quantos encontraram, tanto maus como bons; e encheu-se de convivas a sala nupcial.

11 B ut when the king came in to view the guests, he looked intently at a man there who had on no wedding garment.

Mas, quando o rei entrou para ver os convivas, viu ali um homem que não trajava veste nupcial;

12 A nd he said, Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the wedding garment? And he was speechless ( muzzled, gagged).

e perguntou-lhe: Amigo, como entraste aqui, sem teres veste nupcial? Ele, porém, emudeceu.

13 T hen the king said to the attendants, Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the darkness outside; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

Ordenou então o rei aos servos: Amarrai-o de pés e mãos, e lançai-o nas trevas exteriores; ali haverá choro e ranger de dentes.

14 F or many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.

Porque muitos são chamados, mas poucos escolhidos.

15 T hen the Pharisees went and consulted and plotted together how they might entangle Jesus in His talk.

Então os fariseus se retiraram e consultaram entre si como o apanhariam em alguma palavra;

16 A nd they sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be and that You teach the way of God truthfully, regardless of consequences and being afraid of no man; for You are impartial and do not regard either the person or the position of anyone.

e enviaram-lhe os seus discípulos, juntamente com os herodianos, a dizer; Mestre, sabemos que és verdadeiro, e que ensinas segundo a verdade o caminho de Deus, e de ninguém se te dá, porque não olhas a aparência dos homens.

17 T ell us then what You think about this: Is it lawful to pay tribute to Caesar or not?

Dize-nos, pois, que te parece? É lícito pagar tributo a César, ou não?

18 B ut Jesus, aware of their malicious plot, asked, Why do you put Me to the test and try to entrap Me, you pretenders (hypocrites)?

Jesus, porém, percebendo a sua malícia, respondeu: Por que me experimentais, hipócritas?

19 S how me the money used for the tribute. And they brought Him a denarius.

Mostrai-me a moeda do tributo. E eles lhe apresentaram um denário.

20 A nd Jesus said to them, Whose likeness and title are these?

Perguntou-lhes ele: De quem é esta imagem e inscrição?

21 T hey said, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Pay therefore to Caesar the things that are due to Caesar, and pay to God the things that are due to God.

Responderam: De César. Então lhes disse: Dai, pois, a César o que é de César, e a Deus o que é de Deus.

22 W hen they heard it they were amazed and marveled; and they left Him and departed.

Ao ouvirem isso, ficaram admirados; e, deixando-o, se retiraram.

23 T he same day some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and they asked Him a question,

No mesmo dia vieram alguns saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, e o interrogaram, dizendo:

24 S aying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man dies, leaving no children, his brother shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.

Mestre, Moisés disse: Se morrer alguém, não tendo filhos, seu irmão casará com a mulher dele, e suscitará descendência a seu irmão.

25 N ow there were seven brothers among us; the first married and died, and, having no children, left his wife to his brother.

Ora, havia entre nós sete irmãos: o primeiro, tendo casado, morreu: e, não tendo descendência, deixou sua mulher a seu irmão;

26 T he second also died childless, and the third, down to the seventh.

da mesma sorte também o segundo, o terceiro, até o sétimo.

27 L ast of all, the woman died also.

depois de todos, morreu também a mulher.

28 N ow, in the resurrection, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.

Portanto, na ressurreição, de qual dos sete será ela esposa, pois todos a tiveram?

29 B ut Jesus replied to them, You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor God’s power.

Jesus, porém, lhes respondeu: Errais, não compreendendo as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus;

30 F or in the resurrected state neither do marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.

pois na ressurreição nem se casam nem se dão em casamento; mas serão como os anjos no céu.

31 B ut as to the resurrection of the dead—have you never read what was said to you by God,

E, quanto ã ressurreição dos mortos, não lestes o que foi dito por Deus:

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living!

Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque, e o Deus de Jacó? Ora, ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos.

33 A nd when the throng heard it, they were astonished and filled with '> glad] amazement at His teaching.

E as multidões, ouvindo isso, se maravilhavam da sua doutrina.

34 N ow when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced ( muzzled) the Sadducees, they gathered together.

Os fariseus, quando souberam, que ele fizera emudecer os saduceus, reuniram-se todos;

35 A nd one of their number, a lawyer, asked Him a question to test Him.

e um deles, doutor da lei, para o experimentar, interrogou- o, dizendo:

36 T eacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law?

Mestre, qual é o grande mandamento na lei?

37 A nd He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).

Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Amarás ao Senhor teu Deus de todo o teu coração, de toda a tua alma, e de todo o teu entendimento.

38 T his is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.

Este é o grande e primeiro mandamento.

39 A nd a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

E o segundo, semelhante a este, é: Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo.

40 T hese two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.

Destes dois mandamentos dependem toda a lei e os profetas.

41 N ow while the Pharisees were still assembled there, Jesus asked them a question,

Ora, enquanto os fariseus estavam reunidos, interrogou-os Jesus, dizendo:

42 S aying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, The Son of David.

Que pensais vós do Cristo? De quem é filho? Responderam-lhe: De Davi.

43 H e said to them, How is it then that David, under the influence of the Spirit, calls Him Lord, saying,

Replicou-lhes ele: Como é então que Davi, no Espírito, lhe chama Senhor, dizendo:

44 T he Lord said to My Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet?

Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te ã minha direita, até que eu ponha os teus inimigos de baixo dos teus pés?

45 I f then David thus calls Him Lord, how is He his Son?

Se Davi, pois, lhe chama Senhor, como é ele seu filho?

46 A nd no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day did anyone venture or dare to question Him.

E ninguém podia responder-lhe palavra; nem desde aquele dia jamais ousou alguém interrogá-lo.
