1 A nd again Jesus spoke to them in parables (comparisons, stories used to illustrate and explain), saying,

Jesus lhes falou novamente por parábolas, dizendo:

2 T he kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son

“O Reino dos céus é como um rei que preparou um banquete de casamento para seu filho.

3 A nd sent his servants to summon those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they refused to come.

Enviou seus servos aos que tinham sido convidados para o banquete, dizendo-lhes que viessem; mas eles não quiseram vir.

4 A gain he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my banquet; my bullocks and my fat calves are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the wedding feast.

“De novo enviou outros servos e disse: ‘Digam aos que foram convidados que preparei meu banquete: meus bois e meus novilhos gordos foram abatidos, e tudo está preparado. Venham para o banquete de casamento!’

5 B ut they were not concerned and paid no attention and they went away—one to his farm, another to his business,

“Mas eles não lhes deram atenção e saíram, um para o seu campo, outro para os seus negócios.

6 W hile the others seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and put them to death.

Os restantes, agarrando os servos, maltrataram-nos e os mataram.

7 t he king was infuriated; and he sent his soldiers and put those murderers to death and burned their city.

O rei ficou irado e, enviando o seu exército, destruiu aqueles assassinos e queimou a cidade deles.

8 T hen he said to his servants, The wedding is prepared, but those invited were not worthy.

“Então disse a seus servos: ‘O banquete de casamento está pronto, mas os meus convidados não eram dignos.

9 S o go to the thoroughfares where they leave the city and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.

Vão às esquinas e convidem para o banquete todos os que vocês encontrarem’.

10 A nd those servants went out on the crossroads and got together as many as they found, both bad and good, so the wedding feast was filled with guests.

Então os servos saíram para as ruas e reuniram todas as pessoas que puderam encontrar, gente boa e gente má, e a sala do banquete de casamento ficou cheia de convidados.

11 B ut when the king came in to view the guests, he looked intently at a man there who had on no wedding garment.

“Mas quando o rei entrou para ver os convidados, notou ali um homem que não estava usando veste nupcial.

12 A nd he said, Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the wedding garment? And he was speechless ( muzzled, gagged).

E lhe perguntou: ‘Amigo, como você entrou aqui sem veste nupcial?’ O homem emudeceu.

13 T hen the king said to the attendants, Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the darkness outside; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

“Então o rei disse aos que serviam: ‘Amarrem-lhe as mãos e os pés, e lancem-no para fora, nas trevas; ali haverá choro e ranger de dentes’.

14 F or many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.

“Pois muitos são chamados, mas poucos são escolhidos”. O Pagamento de Imposto a César

15 T hen the Pharisees went and consulted and plotted together how they might entangle Jesus in His talk.

Então os fariseus saíram e começaram a planejar um meio de enredá-lo em suas próprias palavras.

16 A nd they sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be and that You teach the way of God truthfully, regardless of consequences and being afraid of no man; for You are impartial and do not regard either the person or the position of anyone.

Enviaram-lhe seus discípulos junto com os herodianos, que lhe disseram: “Mestre, sabemos que és íntegro e que ensinas o caminho de Deus conforme a verdade. Tu não te deixas influenciar por ninguém, porque não te prendes à aparência dos homens.

17 T ell us then what You think about this: Is it lawful to pay tribute to Caesar or not?

Dize-nos, pois: Qual é a tua opinião? É certo pagar imposto a César ou não?”

18 B ut Jesus, aware of their malicious plot, asked, Why do you put Me to the test and try to entrap Me, you pretenders (hypocrites)?

Mas Jesus, percebendo a má intenção deles, perguntou: “Hipócritas! Por que vocês estão me pondo à prova?

19 S how me the money used for the tribute. And they brought Him a denarius.

Mostrem-me a moeda usada para pagar o imposto”. Eles lhe mostraram um denário,

20 A nd Jesus said to them, Whose likeness and title are these?

e ele lhes perguntou: “De quem é esta imagem e esta inscrição?”

21 T hey said, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Pay therefore to Caesar the things that are due to Caesar, and pay to God the things that are due to God.

“De César”, responderam eles. E ele lhes disse: “Então, dêem a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus”.

22 W hen they heard it they were amazed and marveled; and they left Him and departed.

Ao ouvirem isso, eles ficaram admirados; e, deixando-o, retiraram-se. A Realidade da Ressurreição

23 T he same day some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and they asked Him a question,

Naquele mesmo dia, os saduceus, que dizem que não há ressurreição, aproximaram-se dele com a seguinte questão:

24 S aying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man dies, leaving no children, his brother shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.

“Mestre, Moisés disse que se um homem morrer sem deixar filhos, seu irmão deverá casar-se com a viúva e dar-lhe descendência.

25 N ow there were seven brothers among us; the first married and died, and, having no children, left his wife to his brother.

Entre nós havia sete irmãos. O primeiro casou-se e morreu. Como não teve filhos, deixou a mulher para seu irmão.

26 T he second also died childless, and the third, down to the seventh.

A mesma coisa aconteceu com o segundo, com o terceiro, até o sétimo.

27 L ast of all, the woman died also.

Finalmente, depois de todos, morreu a mulher.

28 N ow, in the resurrection, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.

Pois bem, na ressurreição, de qual dos sete ela será esposa, visto que todos foram casados com ela?”

29 B ut Jesus replied to them, You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor God’s power.

Jesus respondeu: “Vocês estão enganados porque não conhecem as Escrituras nem o poder de Deus!

30 F or in the resurrected state neither do marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.

Na ressurreição, as pessoas não se casam nem são dadas em casamento; mas são como os anjos no céu.

31 B ut as to the resurrection of the dead—have you never read what was said to you by God,

E quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, vocês não leram o que Deus lhes disse:

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living!

‘Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó’ ? Ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos!”

33 A nd when the throng heard it, they were astonished and filled with '> glad] amazement at His teaching.

Ouvindo isso, a multidão ficou admirada com o seu ensino. O Maior Mandamento

34 N ow when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced ( muzzled) the Sadducees, they gathered together.

Ao ouvirem dizer que Jesus havia deixado os saduceus sem resposta, os fariseus se reuniram.

35 A nd one of their number, a lawyer, asked Him a question to test Him.

Um deles, perito na lei, o pôs à prova com esta pergunta:

36 T eacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law?

“Mestre, qual é o maior mandamento da Lei?”

37 A nd He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).

Respondeu Jesus: “‘Ame o Senhor, o seu Deus de todo o seu coração, de toda a sua alma e de todo o seu entendimento’.

38 T his is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.

Este é o primeiro e maior mandamento.

39 A nd a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

E o segundo é semelhante a ele: ‘Ame o seu próximo como a si mesmo’.

40 T hese two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.

Destes dois mandamentos dependem toda a Lei e os Profetas”. O Cristo é Senhor de Davi

41 N ow while the Pharisees were still assembled there, Jesus asked them a question,

Estando os fariseus reunidos, Jesus lhes perguntou:

42 S aying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, The Son of David.

“O que vocês pensam a respeito do Cristo? De quem ele é filho?” “É filho de Davi”, responderam eles.

43 H e said to them, How is it then that David, under the influence of the Spirit, calls Him Lord, saying,

Ele lhes disse: “Então, como é que Davi, falando pelo Espírito, o chama ‘Senhor’? Pois ele afirma:

44 T he Lord said to My Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet?

“‘O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: Senta-te à minha direita, até que eu ponha os teus inimigos debaixo de teus pés ’.

45 I f then David thus calls Him Lord, how is He his Son?

Se, pois, Davi o chama ‘Senhor’, como pode ser ele seu filho?”

46 A nd no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day did anyone venture or dare to question Him.

Ninguém conseguia responder-lhe uma palavra; e daquele dia em diante, ninguém jamais se atreveu a lhe fazer perguntas.
