1 I n the days of Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it.

Quando Acaz, filho de Jotão e neto de Uzias, era rei de Judá, o rei Rezim, da Síria, e Peca, filho de Remalias, rei de Israel, atacaram Jerusalém, mas não puderam vencê-la.

2 A nd the house of David was told, Syria is allied with Ephraim. And the heart and the hearts of his people trembled and shook, as the trees of the forest tremble and shake with the wind.

Informaram ao rei: “A Síria montou acampamento em Efraim”. Com isso o coração de Acaz e do seu povo agitou-se, como as árvores da floresta agitam-se com o vento.

3 T hen said the Lord to Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Judah’s King Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the aqueduct or canal of the Upper Pool on the highway to the Fuller’s Field;

Então o Senhor disse a Isaías: “Saia, e leve seu filho Sear-Jasube. Vá encontrar-se com Acaz no final do aqueduto do açude Superior, na estrada que vai para o campo do Lavandeiro.

4 A nd say to him, Take heed and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted because of these two stumps of smoking firebrands—at the fierce anger of Rezin and Syria and of the son of Remaliah.

Diga a ele: Tenha cuidado, acalme-se e não tenha medo. Que o seu coração não desanime por causa do furor destes restos de lenha fumegantes: Rezim, a Síria e o filho de Remalias.

5 B ecause Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah have purposed evil against you, saying,

“Porque a Síria, Efraim e o filho de Remalias têm tramado a sua ruína, dizendo:

6 L et us go up against Judah and harass and terrify it; and let us cleave it asunder, and set a king in the midst of it, namely the son of Tabeel,

‘Vamos invadir o reino de Judá; vamos rasgá-lo e dividi-lo entre nós, e fazer o filho de Tabeel reinar sobre ele’”.

7 T hus says the Lord God: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

Assim diz o Soberano, o Senhor: “Não será assim, isso não acontecerá,

8 F or the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces so that it will no longer be a people.

pois a cabeça da Síria é Damasco, e a cabeça de Damasco é Rezim. Em sessenta e cinco anos Efraim ficará muito arruinado para ser um povo.

9 A nd the head (the capital) of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If you will not believe and trust and rely, surely you will not be established nor will you remain.

A cabeça de Efraim é Samaria, e a cabeça de Samaria é o filho de Remalias. Se vocês não ficarem firmes na fé, com certeza não resistirão!”

10 M oreover, the Lord spoke again to King Ahaz, saying,

Disse ainda o Senhor a Acaz:

11 A sk for yourself a sign (a token or proof) of the Lord your God; ask it either in the depth below or in the height above.

“Peça ao Senhor, ao seu Deus, um sinal miraculoso, seja das maiores profundezas, seja das alturas mais elevadas”.

12 B ut Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.

Mas Acaz disse: “Não pedirei; não porei o Senhor à prova”.

13 A nd said, Hear then, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary and try the patience of men, but will you weary and try the patience of my God also?

Disse então Isaías: “Ouçam agora, descendentes de Davi! Não basta abusarem da paciência dos homens? Também vão abusar da paciência do meu Deus?

14 T herefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Por isso o Senhor mesmo lhes dará um sinal: a virgem ficará grávida e dará à luz um filho, e o chamará Emanuel.

15 B utter and curds and wild honey shall he eat when he knows to refuse the evil and choose the good.

Ele comerá coalhada e mel até a idade em que saiba rejeitar o erro e escolher o que é certo.

16 F or before the child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you abhor and of whom you are in sickening dread shall be forsaken.

Mas, antes que o menino saiba rejeitar o erro e escolher o que é certo, a terra dos dois reis que você teme ficará deserta.

17 T he Lord shall bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah—even the king of Assyria.

O Senhor trará o rei da Assíria sobre você e sobre o seu povo e sobre a descendência de seu pai. Serão dias como nunca houve, desde que Efraim se separou de Judá”.

18 A nd in that day the Lord shall whistle for the fly that is in the whole extent of the canal country of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

Naquele dia o Senhor assobiará para chamar as moscas dos distantes rios do Egito e as abelhas da Assíria.

19 A nd these shall come and shall rest all of them in the desolate and rugged valleys and deep ravines and in the clefts of the rocks, and on all the thornbushes and on all the pastures.

Todas virão e pousarão nos vales íngremes e nas fendas das rochas, em todos os espinheiros e em todas as cisternas.

20 I n the same day, the Lord will shave with the razor that is hired from the parts beyond the River —even with the king of Assyria— the head and the hair of the legs, and it shall also consume the beard.

Naquele dia o Senhor utilizará uma navalha alugada de além do Eufrates, o rei da Assíria, para rapar a sua cabeça e os pêlos de suas pernas e da sua barba.

21 A nd in that day, a man will keep alive only a young milk cow and two sheep.

Naquele dia o homem que tiver uma vaca e duas cabras

22 A nd because of the abundance of milk that they will give, he will eat butter and curds, for butter and curds and honey shall everyone eat who is left in the land.

terá coalhada para comer, graças à fartura de leite que elas darão. Todos os que ficarem na terra comerão coalhada e mel.

23 A nd in that day, in every place where there used to be a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels, there will be briers and thorns.

Naquele dia, todo lugar onde havia mil videiras no valor de doze quilos de prata será deixado para as roseiras bravas e para os espinheiros.

24 W ith arrows and with bows shall a man come there, because all the land will be briers and thorns.

Os homens entrarão ali com arcos e flechas, pois todo o país estará coberto de roseiras bravas e de espinheiros.

25 A nd as for all the hills that were formerly cultivated with mattock and hoe, you will not go there for fear of briers and thorns; but they will become a place where oxen are let loose to pasture and where sheep tread.

E às colinas antes lavradas com enxada você não irá mais, porque terá medo das roseiras bravas e dos espinheiros; nesses lugares os bois ficarão à solta e as ovelhas correrão livremente.
