1 A hab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

Ora, Acabe contou a Jezabel tudo o que Elias tinha feito e como havia matado todos aqueles profetas à espada.

2 T hen Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.

Por isso Jezabel mandou um mensageiro a Elias para dizer-lhe: “Que os deuses me castiguem com todo o rigor, se amanhã nesta hora eu não fizer com a sua vida o que você fez com a deles”.

3 T hen he was afraid and arose and went for his life and came to Beersheba of Judah and left his servant there.

Elias teve medo e fugiu para salvar a vida. Em Berseba de Judá ele deixou o seu servo

4 B ut he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a lone broom or juniper tree and asked that he might die. He said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am no better than my fathers.

e entrou no deserto, caminhando um dia. Chegou a um pé de giesta, sentou-se debaixo dele e orou, pedindo a morte: “Já tive o bastante, Senhor. Tira a minha vida; não sou melhor do que os meus antepassados”.

5 A s he lay asleep under the broom or juniper tree, behold, an angel touched him and said to him, Arise and eat.

Depois se deitou debaixo da árvore e dormiu. De repente um anjo tocou nele e disse: “Levante-se e coma”.

6 H e looked, and behold, there was a cake baked on the coals, and a bottle of water at his head. And he ate and drank and lay down again.

Elias olhou ao redor e ali, junto à sua cabeça, havia um pão assado sobre brasas quentes e um jarro de água. Ele comeu, bebeu e deitou-se de novo.

7 T he angel of the Lord came the second time and touched him and said, Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.

O anjo do Senhor voltou, tocou nele e disse: “Levante-se e coma, pois a sua viagem será muito longa”.

8 S o he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and nights to Horeb, the mount of God.

Então ele se levantou, comeu e bebeu. Fortalecido com aquela comida, viajou quarenta dias e quarenta noites, até chegar a Horebe, o monte de Deus.

9 T here he came to a cave and lodged in it; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?

Ali entrou numa caverna e passou a noite. O Senhor Aparece a Elias E a palavra do Senhor veio a ele: “O que você está fazendo aqui, Elias?”

10 H e replied, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, thrown down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I, I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Ele respondeu: “Tenho sido muito zeloso pelo Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos. Os israelitas rejeitaram a tua aliança, quebraram os teus altares, e mataram os teus profetas à espada. Sou o único que sobrou, e agora também estão procurando matar-me”.

11 A nd He said, Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake;

O Senhor lhe disse: “Saia e fique no monte, na presença do Senhor, pois o Senhor vai passar”. Então veio um vento fortíssimo que separou os montes e esmigalhou as rochas diante do Senhor, mas o Senhor não estava no vento. Depois do vento houve um terremoto, mas o Senhor não estava no terremoto.

12 A nd after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still, small voice.

Depois do terremoto houve um fogo, mas o Senhor não estava nele. E depois do fogo houve o murmúrio de uma brisa suave.

13 W hen Elijah heard the voice, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, What are you doing here, Elijah?

Quando Elias ouviu, puxou a capa para cobrir o rosto, saiu e ficou à entrada da caverna. E uma voz lhe perguntou: “O que você está fazendo aqui, Elias?”

14 H e said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts, because the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, thrown down Your altars, and slain Your prophets with the sword. And I, I only, am left, and they seek my life, to destroy it.

Ele respondeu: “Tenho sido muito zeloso pelo Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos. Os israelitas rejeitaram a tua aliança, quebraram os teus altares, e mataram os teus profetas à espada. Sou o único que sobrou, e agora também estão procurando matar-me”.

15 A nd the Lord said to him, Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.

O Senhor lhe disse: “Volte pelo caminho por onde veio, e vá para o deserto de Damasco. Chegando lá, unja Hazael como rei da Síria.

16 A nd anoint Jehu son of Nimshi to be king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to be prophet in your place.

Unja também Jeú, filho de Ninsi, como rei de Israel, e unja Eliseu, filho de Safate, de Abel-Meolá, para suceder a você como profeta.

17 A nd him who escapes from the sword of Hazael Jehu shall slay, and him who escapes the sword of Jehu Elisha shall slay.

Jeú matará todo aquele que escapar da espada de Hazael, e Eliseu matará todo aquele que escapar da espada de Jeú.

18 Y et I will leave Myself 7, 000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.

19 S o Elijah left there and found Elisha son of Shaphat, whose plowing was being done with twelve yoke of oxen, and he drove the twelfth. Elijah crossed over to him and cast his mantle upon him.

Então Elias saiu de lá e encontrou Eliseu, filho de Safate. Ele estava arando com doze parelhas de bois, e estava conduzindo a décima segunda parelha. Elias o alcançou e lançou sua capa sobre ele.

20 H e left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, Let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you. And he said, Go on back. What have I done to you?

Eliseu deixou os bois e correu atrás de Elias. “Deixa-me dar um beijo de despedida em meu pai e minha mãe”, disse, “e então irei contigo.” “Vá e volte”, respondeu Elias; “lembre-se do que lhe fiz.”

21 S o Elisha went back from him. Then he took a yoke of oxen, slew them, boiled their flesh with the oxen’s yoke, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, followed Elijah, and served him.

E Eliseu voltou, apanhou a sua parelha de bois e os matou. Queimou o equipamento de arar para cozinhar a carne e a deu ao povo, e eles comeram. Depois partiu com Elias, tornando-se o seu auxiliar.
