1 S imon Peter, a servant and apostle (special messenger) of Jesus Christ, to those who have received (obtained an equal privilege of) like precious faith with ourselves in and through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

Simão Pedro, servo e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, àqueles que, mediante a justiça de nosso Deus e Salvador Jesus Cristo, receberam conosco uma fé igualmente valiosa:

2 M ay grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in '> precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Graça e paz lhes sejam multiplicadas, pelo pleno conhecimento de Deus e de Jesus, o nosso Senhor. A Certeza de nossa Vocação e Eleição

3 F or His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that to life and godliness, through the '> full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

Seu divino poder nos deu tudo de que necessitamos para a vida e para a piedade, por meio do pleno conhecimento daquele que nos chamou para a sua própria glória e virtude.

4 B y means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

Dessa maneira, ele nos deu as suas grandiosas e preciosas promessas, para que por elas vocês se tornassem participantes da natureza divina e fugissem da corrupção que há no mundo, causada pela cobiça.

5 F or this very reason, adding your diligence, employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in virtue knowledge (intelligence),

Por isso mesmo, empenhem-se para acrescentar à sua fé a virtude; à virtude o conhecimento;

6 A nd in knowledge self-control, and in self-control steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in steadfastness godliness (piety),

ao conhecimento o domínio próprio; ao domínio próprio a perseverança; à perseverança a piedade;

7 A nd in godliness brotherly affection, and in brotherly affection Christian love.

à piedade a fraternidade; e à fraternidade o amor.

8 F or as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep from being idle or unfruitful unto the '> full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Porque, se essas qualidades existirem e estiverem crescendo em sua vida, elas impedirão que vocês, no pleno conhecimento de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, sejam inoperantes e improdutivos.

9 F or whoever lacks these qualities is blind, '> spiritually] shortsighted, seeing only what is near to him, and has become oblivious that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Todavia, se alguém não as tem, está cego, só vê o que está perto, esquecendo-se da purificação dos seus antigos pecados.

10 B ecause of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.

Portanto, irmãos, empenhem-se ainda mais para consolidar o chamado e a eleição de vocês, pois se agirem dessa forma, jamais tropeçarão,

11 T hus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

e assim vocês estarão ricamente providos quando entrarem no Reino eterno de nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. A Glória de Cristo e a Firmeza das Escrituras

12 S o I intend always to remind you about these things, although indeed you know them and are firm in the truth that now.

Por isso, sempre terei o cuidado de lembrar-lhes estas coisas, se bem que vocês já as sabem e estão solidamente firmados na verdade que receberam.

13 I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle (tent, body), to stir you up by way of remembrance,

Considero importante, enquanto estiver no tabernáculo deste corpo, despertar a memória de vocês,

14 S ince I know that the laying aside of this body of mine will come speedily, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

porque sei que em breve deixarei este tabernáculo, como o nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo já me revelou.

15 M oreover, I will diligently endeavor that after my departure (decease) you may be able at all times to call these things to mind.

Eu me empenharei para que, também depois da minha partida, vocês sejam sempre capazes de lembrar-se destas coisas.

16 F or we were not following cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty (grandeur, authority of sovereign power).

De fato, não seguimos fábulas engenhosamente inventadas, quando lhes falamos a respeito do poder e da vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; ao contrário, nós fomos testemunhas oculares da sua majestade.

17 F or when He was invested with honor and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased and delight,

Ele recebeu honra e glória da parte de Deus Pai, quando da suprema glória lhe foi dirigida a voz que disse: “Este é o meu filho amado, em quem me agrado”.

18 W e heard this voice borne out of heaven, for we were together with Him on the holy mountain.

Nós mesmos ouvimos essa voz vinda dos céus, quando estávamos com ele no monte santo.

19 A nd we have the prophetic word firmer still. You will do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place, until the day breaks through and the Morning Star rises ( comes into being) in your hearts.

Assim, temos ainda mais firme a palavra dos profetas, e vocês farão bem se a ela prestarem atenção, como a uma candeia que brilha em lugar escuro, até que o dia clareie e a estrela da alva nasça no coração de vocês.

20 f irst understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving).

Antes de mais nada, saibam que nenhuma profecia da Escritura provém de interpretação pessoal,

21 F or no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it, but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.

pois jamais a profecia teve origem na vontade humana, mas homens falaram da parte de Deus, impelidos pelo Espírito Santo.
