1 S imon Peter, a servant and apostle (special messenger) of Jesus Christ, to those who have received (obtained an equal privilege of) like precious faith with ourselves in and through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

¶ Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que habéis alcanzado fe igualmente preciosa con nosotros en la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo:

2 M ay grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in '> precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

Gracia y paz os sea multiplicada en el conocimiento de Dios, y de nuestro Señor Jesús.

3 F or His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that to life and godliness, through the '> full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

Como todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos son dadas de su divina potencia, por el conocimiento de aquel que nos ha llamado por su gloria y virtud,

4 B y means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

por las cuales nos son dadas preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas fuerais hechos participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huido de la corrupción que está en el mundo por la concupiscencia.

5 F or this very reason, adding your diligence, employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in virtue knowledge (intelligence),

¶ Vosotros también, poniendo toda diligencia en esto mismo, mostrad en vuestra fe, virtud; y en la virtud, ciencia;

6 A nd in knowledge self-control, and in self-control steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in steadfastness godliness (piety),

y en la ciencia, templanza; y en la templanza, paciencia; y en la paciencia, temor de Dios;

7 A nd in godliness brotherly affection, and in brotherly affection Christian love.

y en el temor de Dios, amor fraternal; y en el amor fraternal, caridad.

8 F or as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep from being idle or unfruitful unto the '> full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Porque si en vosotros hay estas cosas, y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos, ni estériles en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

9 F or whoever lacks these qualities is blind, '> spiritually] shortsighted, seeing only what is near to him, and has become oblivious that he was cleansed from his old sins.

Pero el que no tiene estas cosas, es ciego, y anda tentando el camino con la mano, habiendo olvidado de la purgación de sus antiguos pecados.

10 B ecause of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.

Por lo cual, hermanos, procurad tanto más de hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.

11 T hus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Porque de esta manera os será abundantemente administrada la entrada en el Reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

12 S o I intend always to remind you about these things, although indeed you know them and are firm in the truth that now.

¶ Por esto, yo no dejaré de amonestaros siempre de estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis, y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.

13 I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle (tent, body), to stir you up by way of remembrance,

Porque tengo por justo, (en tanto que estoy en este tabernáculo), de incitaros con amonestación,

14 S ince I know that the laying aside of this body of mine will come speedily, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

sabiendo que brevemente tengo que dejar este mi tabernáculo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.

15 M oreover, I will diligently endeavor that after my departure (decease) you may be able at all times to call these things to mind.

También yo procuraré con diligencia, que después de mi fallecimiento, vosotros podáis tener memoria de estas cosas.

16 F or we were not following cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty (grandeur, authority of sovereign power).

¶ Porque nosotros no os hemos dado a conocer la potencia y la venida de nuestro Señor, Jesucristo, siguiendo fábulas por arte compuestas; sino como habiendo visto con nuestros propios ojos su majestad.

17 F or when He was invested with honor and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased and delight,

Porque él había recibido de Dios el Padre honra y gloria, cuando una tal voz fue a él enviada de la magnífica gloria: Este es el amado Hijo mío, en el cual yo me he agradado.

18 W e heard this voice borne out of heaven, for we were together with Him on the holy mountain.

Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos juntamente con él en el Monte Santo.

19 A nd we have the prophetic word firmer still. You will do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place, until the day breaks through and the Morning Star rises ( comes into being) in your hearts.

¶ Tenemos también la palabra de los profetas más firme, a la cual hacéis bien de estar atentos como a una lámpara que alumbra en lugar oscuro, hasta que el día esclarezca, y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones.

20 f irst understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving).

Entendiendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de particular interpretación;

21 F or no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it, but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.

porque la profecía no fue en los tiempos pasados traída por voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados del Espíritu Santo.
