1 I n the second year of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel, Amaziah son of Joash king of Judah reigned.

En el año segundo de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá.

2 H e was twenty-five years old when he began his twenty-nine-year reign in Jerusalem. His mother was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre fue Joadán, de Jerusalén.

3 H e did right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like David his. He did all things as Joash his father did.

Y él hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, aunque no como David su padre; hizo conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho Joás su padre.

4 B ut the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

Con todo eso los lugares altos no fueron quitados; porque el pueblo aun sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en los lugares altos.

5 A s soon as the kingdom was established in Amaziah’s hand, he slew his servants who had slain the king his father.

Y cuando el reino fue confirmado en su mano, hirió a sus siervos, los que habían dado muerte al rey su padre.

6 B ut he did not slay the children of the murderers, in compliance with what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, in which the Lord commanded, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin only.

Mas no mató a los hijos de los que le mataron, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde el SEÑOR mandó, diciendo: No matarán a los padres por los hijos, ni a los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.

7 A maziah slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt 10, 000, and took Sela (Greek petra ) by war, and called it Joktheel, which is the name of it to this day.

Este también hirió diez mil idumeos en el valle de las Salinas, y tomó a Sela por guerra, y la llamó Jocteel, hasta hoy.

8 T hen Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face and test each other.

Entonces Amasías envió embajadores a Joás, hijo de Joacaz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, y veámonos de rostro.

9 J ehoash king of Israel replied to Amaziah king of Judah, The thistle in Lebanon sent to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as wife. And a wild beast of Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.

¶ Y Joás rey de Israel envió a Amasías rey de Judá esta respuesta: El cardillo que está en el Líbano envió a decir al gran cedro que está en el Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo. Y pasaron las bestias fieras que están en el Líbano, y hollaron el cardillo.

10 Y ou have indeed smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Glory in that, and stay at home; for why should you meddle to your hurt and provoke calamity, causing you to fall, you and Judah with you?

Ciertamente has herido a Edom, y tu corazón te ha envanecido; gloríate pues, mas estate en 5tu casa. ¿Para qué te entremeterás en un mal, para que caigas tú, y Judá contigo?

11 B ut Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah measured swords at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

Mas Amasías no dio oídos; y subió Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron de rostro él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, que es en Judá.

12 B ut Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled home.

Mas Judá cayó delante de Israel, y huyeron cada uno a sus estancias.

13 A nd Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, 400 cubits.

Además Joás rey de Israel tomó a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, en Bet-semes; y vino a Jerusalén, y rompió el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos.

14 H e seized all the gold and silver and all the vessels found in the Lord’s house and in the treasuries of the king’s house, also hostages, and returned to Samaria.

Y tomó todo el oro, y la plata, y todos los vasos que fueron hallados en la Casa del SEÑOR, y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos en rehenes, y se volvió a Samaria.

15 T he rest of the acts of Jehoash, his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of Israel’s Kings?

Los demás hechos de Joás que hizo, y sus valentías, y cómo peleó contra Amasías rey de Judá, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

16 J ehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with Israel’s kings. Jeroboam reigned in his stead.

Y durmió Joás con sus padres, y fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Jeroboam su hijo.

17 A maziah son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

¶ Y Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá, vivió después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel, quince años.

18 T he rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

Los demás hechos de Amasías, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

19 N ow a conspiracy was made against him in Jerusalem, and Amaziah fled to Lachish, but they sent after him to Lachish and slew him there.

25 J eroboam restored Israel’s border from the entrance of Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which He spoke through His servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath-hepher.

El restituyó los términos de Israel desde la entrada de Hamat hasta el mar de la llanura, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR Dios de Israel, la cual había él hablado por su siervo Jonás hijo de Amitai, profeta que fue de Gat-hefer.

26 F or the Lord saw as very bitter the affliction of Israel; there was no one left, bond or free, nor any helper for Israel.

Por cuanto el SEÑOR miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había nadie guardado ni quedado, ni quien diera ayuda a Israel;

27 B ut the Lord had not said that He would blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens, so He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Jehoash.

y el SEÑOR no había aún determinado raer el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo; por tanto, los salvó por mano de Jeroboam hijo de Joás.

28 T he rest of the acts of Jeroboam, all that he did, his might, how he warred, and how he recovered for Israel Damascus and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Y los demás hechos de Jeroboam, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su valentía, y todas las guerras que hizo, y cómo restituyó a Judá en Israel a Damasco y a Hamat, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

29 J eroboam slept with his fathers, the kings of Israel. Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.

Y durmió Jeroboam con sus padres, los reyes de Israel, y reinó en su lugar Zacarías su hijo.
