1 E lihu answered (continued his discourse) and said,

Además respondió Eliú, y dijo:

2 H ear my words, you wise men, and give ear to me, you who have knowledge.

Oíd, sabios, mis palabras; y vosotros, doctos, estadme atentos.

3 F or the ear tries words as the palate tastes food.

Porque el oído prueba las palabras, como el paladar gusta para comer.

4 L et us choose for ourselves that which is right; let us know among ourselves what is good.

Escojamos para nosotros el juicio, conozcamos entre nosotros cuál sea lo bueno;

5 F or Job has said, I am righteous, but God has taken away my right;

porque Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, y Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.

6 W ould I lie against my right? Yet, notwithstanding my right, I am counted a liar. My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

En mi juicio fue mentiroso, mi saeta es gravosa sin haber yo prevaricado.

7 W hat man is like Job, who drinks up scoffing and scorning like water,

¿Qué hombre hay como Job, que bebe el escarnio como agua?

8 W ho goes in company with the workers of iniquity and walks with wicked men?

Y va en compañía con los que obran iniquidad, y anda con los hombres maliciosos.

9 F or he has said, It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God and consent to Him.

Porque dijo: De nada servirá al hombre el conformar su voluntad con Dios.

10 T herefore hear me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God that He should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that He should commit iniquity.

Por tanto, varones de entendimiento, oídme: Lejos esté de Dios la impiedad, y del Omnipotente la iniquidad.

11 F or according to the deeds of a man God will proportion his pay, and He will cause every man to find according to his ways.

Porque él pagará al hombre según su obra, y él le hará hallar conforme a su camino.

12 T ruly God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

Sí, por cierto, Dios no hará injusticia, y el Omnipotente no pervertirá el derecho.

13 W ho put in charge over the earth? Or who laid on Him the whole world?

¿Quién visitó por él la tierra? ¿Y quién puso en orden todo el mundo?

14 I f should set His heart upon him and withdraw His spirit and His breath to Himself,

Si él pusiera sobre el hombre su corazón, y recogiere así su espíritu y su aliento,

15 A ll flesh would perish together, and man would turn again to dust.

toda carne perecería juntamente, y el hombre se tornaría en polvo.

16 I f now you have understanding, hear this; listen to my words.

Si pues hay en ti entendimiento, oye esto: Escucha la voz de mis palabras.

17 I s it possible that an enemy of right should govern? And will you condemn Him Who is just and mighty?

¿Por ventura se enseñoreará el que aborrece el juicio? ¿Y condenarás tú al poderoso siendo justo?

18 W ho says to a king, You are worthless and vile, or to princes and nobles, You are ungodly and evil?

¿Por ventura se ha de llamar al rey: De Belial; y a los príncipes: Impíos?

19 i s not partial to princes, nor does He regard the rich more than the poor, for they all are the work of His hands.

Cuánto menos a aquel que no hace acepción de personas de príncipes, ni el rico es de él más respetado que el pobre; porque todos son obras de sus manos.

20 I n a moment they die; even at midnight the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away by no hand.

En un momento mueren, y a media noche se alborotarán los pueblos, y pasarán, y sin mano será quitado el poderoso.

21 F or eyes are upon the ways of a man, and He sees all his steps.

Porque sus ojos están puestos sobre los caminos del hombre, y ve todos sus pasos.

22 T here is no darkness nor thick gloom where the evildoers may hide themselves.

No hay tinieblas, ni sombra de muerte donde se encubran los que obran iniquidad.

23 s ets before man no appointed time, that he should appear before in judgment.

No carga pues él al hombre más de lo justo, para que vaya con Dios a juicio.

24 H e breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry and in ways past finding out and sets others in their stead.

El quebrantará a los fuertes sin pesquisa, y hará estar a otros en su lugar.

25 T herefore He takes knowledge of their works, and He overturns them in the night, so that they are crushed and destroyed.

Por tanto él hará notorias las obras de ellos, cuando los trastornará en la noche, y serán quebrantados.

26 G od strikes them down as wicked men in the open sight of beholders,

Como a malos los herirá en lugar donde sean vistos;

27 B ecause they turned aside from Him and would not consider or show regard for any of His ways,

por cuanto así se apartaron de él, y no consideraron todos sus caminos;

28 S o that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him, and He heard the cry of the afflicted.

haciendo venir delante de sí el clamor del pobre, y él oye el clamor de los necesitados.

29 W hen He gives quietness (peace and security from oppression), who then can condemn? When He hides His face, who then can behold Him, whether it be a nation or a man by himself?—

Y si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará? Si escondiere el rostro, ¿quién lo mirará? Esto sobre una nación, y lo mismo sobre un hombre;

30 T hat the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.

para que el hombre hipócrita no reine, y el pueblo no tropiece.

31 F or has anyone said to God, I have borne my chastisement; I will not offend any more;

Porque de Dios es decir: Yo perdoné, no destruiré.

32 T each me what I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

Enséñame tú lo que yo no veo; que si hice iniquidad, no lo haré más.

33 S hould recompense be as you will it, when you refuse to accept it? For you must do the choosing, and not I; therefore say what is your truthful conclusion.

¿Por ventura acabará por ti su obra, que no quieras tú, o quieras, o yo? Di lo que sabes.

34 M en of understanding will tell me, indeed, every wise man who hears me,

Los hombres de entendimiento dirán conmigo, y el hombre sabio me oirá:

35 T hat Job speaks without knowledge, and his words are without wisdom and insight.

Que Job no habla con conocimiento, y sus palabras no son con prudencia.

36 h e be tried to the end because of his answering like wicked men!

Deseo yo que Job sea probado ampliamente, para que haya respuestas contra los hombres inicuos.

37 F or he adds rebellion to his unacknowledged sin; he claps his hands among us, and he multiplies his words of accusation against God.

Porque a su pecado añadió rebelión; bate las manos entre nosotros, y contra Dios multiplica sus palabras.
