1 S o, since Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose. For whoever has suffered in the flesh '> the mind of Christ] is done with sin,

¶ Pues que el Cristo ha padecido por nosotros en la carne, vosotros también estad armados del mismo pensamiento; que el que ha padecido en la carne, cesó de pecado;

2 S o that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by human appetites and desires, but for what God wills.

para que ya el tiempo que queda en la carne, viva, no a las concupiscencias de los hombres, sino a la voluntad de Dios.

3 F or the time that is past already suffices for doing what the Gentiles like to do—living in shameless, insolent wantonness, in lustful desires, drunkenness, reveling, drinking bouts and abominable, lawless idolatries.

Porque nos debe bastar que el tiempo pasado de nuestra vida hayamos hecho la voluntad de los gentiles, cuando conversábamos en lascivias, en concupiscencias, en embriagueces, en glotonerías, en orgías, y en abominables idolatrías.

4 T hey are astonished and think it very queer that you do not now run hand in hand with them in the same excesses of dissipation, and they abuse.

¶ Y esto parece cosa extraña a los que os vituperan, que vosotros no corráis con ellos en el mismo desenfreno de disolución;

5 B ut they will have to give an account to Him Who is ready to judge and pass sentence on the living and the dead.

los cuales darán cuenta al que está aparejado para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.

6 F or this is why the good news (the Gospel) was preached '> in their lifetime] even to the dead, that though judged in fleshly bodies as men are, they might live in the spirit as God does.

Porque por esto también ha sido predicado el Evangelio a los muertos; para que sean juzgados en carne según los hombres, y vivan en espíritu según Dios.

7 B ut the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for prayer.

¶ Mas el fin de todas las cosas se acerca; sed, pues, templados, y velad en oración.

8 A bove all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins '> disregards the offenses of others].

Y sobre todo, tened entre vosotros ferviente caridad; porque la caridad cubrirá multitud de pecados.

9 P ractice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). And do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him).

Hospedaos amorosamente los unos a los otros sin murmuraciones.

10 A s each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as good trustees of God’s many-sided grace '> extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].

Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, adminístrelo a los otros, como buenos dispensadores de las diferentes gracias de Dios.

11 W hoever speaks, oracles of God; whoever renders service, as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).

Si alguno habla, hable como los oráculos de Dios; si alguno ministra, ministre conforme a la virtud que Dios suministra; para que en todas las cosas sea Dios glorificado por Jesús el Cristo, al cual es gloria e imperio para siempre jamás. Amén.

12 B eloved, do not be amazed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you.

¶ Carísimos, no os maravilléis cuando seáis examinados por fuego, (lo cual se hace para vuestra prueba), como si alguna cosa peregrina os aconteciera;

13 B ut insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, so that when His glory is revealed, you may also rejoice with triumph.

mas antes en que sois participantes de las aflicciones de Cristo, gozaos, para que también en la revelación de su gloria os gocéis en triunfo.

14 I f you are censured and suffer abuse the name of Christ, blessed '> to be envied, with life-joy, and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward condition], because the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God, is resting upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

Si sois vituperados por el Nombre de Cristo, sois bienaventurados, porque la gloria y el Espíritu de Dios reposan sobre vosotros. Cierto, según ellos, él es blasfemado, mas según vosotros es glorificado.

15 B ut let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or any sort of criminal, or as a mischief-maker (a meddler) in the affairs of others.

Así que, ninguno de vosotros padezca como homicida, o ladrón, o malhechor, o codicioso de los bienes ajenos.

16 B ut if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is in this name.

Pero si alguno padece como cristiano, no se avergüence; antes glorifique a Dios en esta parte.

17 F or the time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will the end of those who do not respect or believe or obey the good news (the Gospel) of God?

Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience desde la casa de Dios; y si primero comienza por nosotros, ¿qué será el fin de aquellos que no obedecen al Evangelio de Dios?

18 A nd if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the godless and wicked?

Y si el justo con dificultad se salva; ¿en dónde aparecerá el infiel y el pecador?

19 T herefore, those who are ill-treated and suffer in accordance with God’s will must do right and commit their souls to the One Who created and will never fail.

Y por eso los que son afligidos según la voluntad de Dios, encomiéndenle sus almas, como a fiel Creador, haciendo bien.
