1 S o, since Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose. For whoever has suffered in the flesh '> the mind of Christ] is done with sin,

Por tanto, puesto que Cristo ha padecido por nosotros en la carne, vosotros también armaos del mismo pensamiento; pues quien ha padecido en la carne, ha roto con el pecado,

2 S o that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by human appetites and desires, but for what God wills.

para no vivir el tiempo que resta en la carne, conforme a las concupiscencias de los hombres, sino conforme a la voluntad de Dios.

3 F or the time that is past already suffices for doing what the Gentiles like to do—living in shameless, insolent wantonness, in lustful desires, drunkenness, reveling, drinking bouts and abominable, lawless idolatries.

Basta ya el tiempo pasado para haber hecho lo que agrada a los gentiles, habiendo andado en lascivias, concupiscencias, embriagueces, orgías, excesos y abominables idolatrías.

4 T hey are astonished and think it very queer that you do not now run hand in hand with them in the same excesses of dissipation, and they abuse.

En lo cual se extrañan de que vosotros no corráis con ellos hacia el mismo desenfreno de disolución, y os ultrajan;

5 B ut they will have to give an account to Him Who is ready to judge and pass sentence on the living and the dead.

pero ellos darán cuenta al que está preparado para juzgar a vivos y muertos.

6 F or this is why the good news (the Gospel) was preached '> in their lifetime] even to the dead, that though judged in fleshly bodies as men are, they might live in the spirit as God does.

Porque con este fin fue predicado el evangelio aun a los que están muertos, para que, juzgados en carne según los hombres, vivan en espíritu según Dios.

7 B ut the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for prayer.

Mas el fin de todas las cosas se acerca; sed, pues, sensatos y manteneos sobrios para la oración.

8 A bove all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins '> disregards the offenses of others].

Y, ante todo, tened entre vosotros ferviente amor; porque el amor cubrirá multitud de pecados.

9 P ractice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). And do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him).

Hospedaos los unos a los otros sin murmuraciones.

10 A s each of you has received a gift (a particular spiritual talent, a gracious divine endowment), employ it for one another as good trustees of God’s many-sided grace '> extremely diverse powers and gifts granted to Christians by unmerited favor].

Cada uno según el don que ha recibido, minístrelo a los otros, como buenos administradores de la multiforme gracia de Dios.

11 W hoever speaks, oracles of God; whoever renders service, as with the strength which God furnishes abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).

Si alguno habla, que hable como si fuesen palabras de Dios; si alguno ministra, que lo haga en virtud de la fuerza que Dios suministra, para que en todo sea Dios glorificado mediante Jesucristo, a quien pertenecen la gloria y el dominio por los siglos de los siglos. Amén. Padeciendo como cristianos

12 B eloved, do not be amazed and bewildered at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange (unusual and alien to you and your position) were befalling you.

Amados, no os sorprendáis de la hoguera que ha prendido en medio de vosotros para probaros, como si os aconteciese alguna cosa extraña,

13 B ut insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, so that when His glory is revealed, you may also rejoice with triumph.

sino gozaos por cuanto sois participantes de los padecimientos de Cristo, para que también en la revelación de su gloria os gocéis con gran alegría.

14 I f you are censured and suffer abuse the name of Christ, blessed '> to be envied, with life-joy, and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward condition], because the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God, is resting upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

Si sois vituperados por el nombre de Cristo, sois dichosos, porque el Espíritu de gloria y de Dios reposa sobre vosotros. Ciertamente, de parte de ellos, él es blasfemado, pero en cuanto a vosotros es glorificado.

15 B ut let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or any sort of criminal, or as a mischief-maker (a meddler) in the affairs of others.

Porque ninguno de vosotros tenga que padecer como homicida, o ladrón, o malhechor, o por entremeterse en lo ajeno;

16 B ut if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but give glory to God that he is in this name.

pero si alguno padece como cristiano, no se avergüence, sino glorifique a Dios por ello.

17 F or the time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will the end of those who do not respect or believe or obey the good news (the Gospel) of God?

Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience por la casa de Dios; y si primero comienza por nosotros, ¿cuál será el fin de aquellos que desobedecen al evangelio de Dios?

18 A nd if the righteous are barely saved, what will become of the godless and wicked?

Y: Si el justo con dificultad se salva, ¿En dónde aparecerá el impío y el pecador?

19 T herefore, those who are ill-treated and suffer in accordance with God’s will must do right and commit their souls to the One Who created and will never fail.

De modo que los que padecen según la voluntad de Dios, encomienden sus almas al fiel Creador, haciendo el bien.
