1 I n the second year of Darius king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by means of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

En el año segundo del rey Darío, en el mes sexto, en el primer día del mes, vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo a Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y a Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, diciendo:

2 T hus says the Lord of hosts: These people say, The time is not yet come that the Lord’s house should be rebuilt.

Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Este pueblo dice: No ha llegado aún el tiempo de que la casa de Jehová sea reedificada.

3 T hen came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,

Entonces vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo:

4 I s it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies in ruins?

¿Es para vosotros tiempo de habitar en vuestras casas artesonadas mientras esta casa está en ruinas?

5 N ow therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways and set your mind on what has come to you.

Ahora, pues, así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad bien sobre vuestros caminos.

6 Y ou have sown much, but you have reaped little; you eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but you do not have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages has earned them to put them in a bag with holes in it.

Sembráis mucho, y recogéis poco; coméis, y no os saciáis; bebéis, y no quedáis satisfechos; os vestís, y no os calentáis; y el que trabaja a jornal, recibe su jornal en saco roto.

7 T hus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways (your previous and present conduct) and how you have fared.

Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad sobre vuestros caminos.

8 G o up to the hill country and bring lumber and rebuild house, and I will take pleasure in it and I will be glorified, says the Lord.

Subid al monte, y traed madera, y reedificad la casa; y me complaceré en ella, y seré glorificado, ha dicho Jehová.

9 Y ou looked for much, and behold, it came to little; and even when you brought that home, I blew it away. Why? says the Lord of hosts. Because of My house, which lies waste while you yourselves run each man to his own house.

Esperabais mucho, y habéis hallado poco, y aun eso que habéis almacenado en casa, yo lo disiparé con un soplo. ¿Por qué?, dice Jehová de los ejércitos. Por cuanto mi casa está desierta, mientras cada uno de vosotros se apresura a edificar su propia casa.

10 T herefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its produce.

Por eso retuvieron los cielos sobre vosotros la lluvia, y la tierra no dio sus frutos.

11 A nd I have called for a drought upon the land and the hill country, upon the grain, the fresh wine, the oil, upon what the ground brings forth, upon men and cattle, and upon all the toil of hands.

Y llamé la sequía sobre esta tierra, y sobre los montes, sobre el trigo, sobre el vino, sobre el aceite, sobre todo lo que la tierra produce, sobre los hombres y sobre las bestias, y sobre todo el trabajo de vuestras manos.

12 T hen Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, listened to and obeyed the voice of the Lord their God the words of Haggai the prophet, since the Lord their God had sent him, and the people feared and turned to the Lord.

Y Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, y Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y todo el resto del pueblo, escucharon la voz de Jehová su Dios, y las palabras del profeta Hageo, conforme le había enviado Jehová su Dios; y temió el pueblo delante de Jehová.

13 T hen Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, spoke the Lord’s message to the people saying, I am with you, says the Lord.

Entonces Hageo, enviado de Jehová, habló por mandato de Jehová al pueblo, diciendo: Yo estoy con vosotros, dice Jehová.

14 A nd the Lord aroused the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, so that they came and labored on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

Y despertó Jehová el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y el espíritu de todo el resto del pueblo; y vinieron y trabajaron en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, su Dios,

15 O n the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.

en el día veinticuatro del mes sexto, en el segundo año del rey Darío.
