1 I am the man who has seen affliction under the rod of His wrath.

Yo soy el hombre que ha visto aflicción bajo el látigo de su enojo.

2 H e has led me and brought me into darkness and not light.

Me guió y me hizo caminar en tinieblas, y no en luz;

3 S urely He has turned away from me; His hand is against me all the day.

Sí, contra mí volvió y revolvió su mano todo el día.

4 M y flesh and my skin has He worn out and made old; He has shattered my bones.

Hizo envejecer mi carne y mi piel; quebrantó mis huesos;

5 H e has built up against me and surrounded me with bitterness, tribulation, and anguish.

Edificó baluartes contra mí, y me rodeó de amargura y de fatiga.

6 H e has caused me to dwell in dark places like those long dead.

Me dejó en oscuridad, como los ya muertos de mucho tiempo.

7 H e walled me in so that I cannot get out; He has weighted down my chain.

Me cercó por todos lados, y no puedo salir; ha hecho pesadas mis cadenas;

8 E ven when I cry and shout for help, He shuts out my prayer.

Aun cuando grito y pido auxilio, cierra los oídos a mi oración;

9 H e has enclosed my ways with hewn stone; He has made my paths crooked.

Cercó mis caminos con piedras sillares, torció mis senderos.

10 H e is to me like a bear lying in wait, and like a lion in secret places.

Fue para mí como oso que acecha, como león en escondrijo;

11 H e has turned me off my ways and pulled me in pieces; He has made me desolate.

Torció mis caminos, y me despedazó; me ha dejado hecho un horror.

12 H e has bent His bow and set me as a mark for the arrow.

Entesó su arco, y me puso como blanco de sus saetas.

13 H e has caused the arrows of His quiver to enter into my heart.

Hizo entrar en mis riñones las saetas de su aljaba.

14 I have become a derision to all my people, and their singsong all the day.

He venido a ser la irrisión de todo mi pueblo, su cantinela de todos los días;

15 H e has filled me with bitterness; He has made me drink to excess and until drunken with wormwood.

Me llenó de amarguras, me embriagó de ajenjos.

16 H e has also broken my teeth with gravel (stones); He has covered me with ashes.

Mis dientes quebró con guijarro, me cubrió de ceniza;

17 A nd You have bereaved my soul and cast it off far from peace; I have forgotten what good and happiness are.

Y mi alma se alejó de la paz, me olvidé de la felicidad,

18 A nd I say, Perished is my strength and my expectation from the Lord.

Y dije: Perecieron mis fuerzas, y mi esperanza en Jehová.

19 r emember my affliction and my misery, my wandering and my outcast state, the wormwood and the gall.

Acuérdate de mi miseria y de mi vida errante, del ajenjo y del veneno;

20 M y soul has them continually in remembrance and is bowed down within me.

Mi alma lo recuerda todavía, y está abatida dentro de mí;

21 B ut this I recall and therefore have I hope and expectation:

Esto es lo que medito en mi corazón, y por lo que espero.

22 I t is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.

Las gracias de Jehová no se han acabado, sus misericordias no se han agotado.

23 T hey are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.

Nuevas son cada mañana; grande es tu fidelidad.

24 T he Lord is my portion or share, says my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him and wait expectantly for Him.

Mi porción es Jehová, dice mi alma; por eso espero en él.

25 T he Lord is good to those who wait hopefully and expectantly for Him, to those who seek Him.

Bueno es Jehová para los que en él esperan, para el alma que le busca.

26 I t is good that one should hope in and wait quietly for the salvation (the safety and ease) of the Lord.

Bueno es esperar en silencio la salvación de Jehová.

27 I t is good for a man that he should bear the yoke in his youth.

Bueno le es al hombre llevar el yugo desde su juventud.

28 L et him sit alone uncomplaining and keeping silent, because has laid upon him.

Que se siente solo y calle, porque es él quien se lo impuso;

29 L et him put his mouth in the dust —there may yet be hope.

Ponga su boca en el polvo, por si aún hay esperanza;

30 L et him give his cheek to the One Who smites him; let him be filled with reproach.

Dé la mejilla al que le hiere, y sea colmado de afrentas.

31 F or the Lord will not cast off forever!

Porque el Señor no desecha para siempre;

32 B ut though He causes grief, yet will He be moved to compassion according to the multitude of His loving-kindness and tender mercy.

Si aflige, también se compadece según la multitud de sus misericordias;

33 F or He does not willingly and from His heart afflict or grieve the children of men.

Porque no humilla ni aflige por gusto a los hijos de los hombres.

34 T o trample and crush underfoot all the prisoners of the earth,

Cuando se desmenuza bajo los pies a todos los encarcelados del país,

35 T o turn aside and deprive a man of his rights before the face of the Most High or a superior,

Cuando se tuerce el derecho del hombre delante de la presencia del Altísimo,

36 T o subvert a man in his cause— the Lord does not approve.

Cuando se hace entuerto al hombre en su causa, ¿el Señor no lo ve?

37 W ho is he who speaks and it comes to pass, if the Lord has not authorized and commanded it?

¿Quién será aquel que haya hablado y las cosas sucedieron? ¿No es el Señor el que decide?

38 I s it not out of the mouth of the Most High that evil and good both proceed ?

¿De la boca del Altísimo no sale lo malo y lo bueno?

39 W hy does a living man sigh ? a man complain for the punishment of his sins?

¿Por qué se lamenta el hombre? ¡Que sea un valiente contra sus pecados!

40 L et us test and examine our ways, and let us return to the Lord!

Escudriñemos nuestros caminos, y examinémoslos, y volvámonos a Jehová;

41 L et us lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven:

Levantemos nuestros corazones sobre nuestras manos al Dios que está en los cielos;

42 W e have transgressed and rebelled and You have not pardoned.

Nosotros nos hemos rebelado, y fuimos desleales; tú no has perdonado.

43 Y ou have covered Yourself with wrath and pursued and afflicted us; You have slain without pity.

Te has cubierto de ira y nos has perseguido; mataste sin piedad;

44 Y ou have covered Yourself with a cloud so that no prayer can pass through.

Te cubriste de nube para que no pasase nuestra oración;

45 Y ou have made us offscouring and refuse among the nations.

Nos has hecho basura y desecho en medio de los pueblos.

46 A ll our enemies have gaped at us and railed against us.

Todos nuestros enemigos abren contra nosotros su boca;

47 F ear and pitfall have come upon us, devastation and destruction.

Terror y fosa es nuestra porción, desolación y ruina;

48 M y eyes overflow with streams of tears because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.

Ríos de aguas echan mis ojos por el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo.

49 M y eyes overflow continually and will not cease

Mis ojos destilan y no cesan; ya no hay alivio

50 U ntil the Lord looks down and sees from heaven.

Hasta que Jehová mire y vea desde los cielos;

51 M y eyes cause me grief at the fate of all the maidens of my city.

Mis ojos atormentan a mi alma por todas las hijas de mi ciudad.

52 I have been hunted down like a bird by those who were my enemies without cause.

Mis enemigos me dieron caza como a ave, sin haber por qué;

53 T hey destroyed my life in the dungeon (pit) and cast a stone above me.

Sofocaron mi vida en una cisterna, y echaron piedras sobre mí;

54 T he waters ran down on my head; I said, I am gone.

Las aguas cubrieron mi cabeza; y dije: Estoy perdido.

55 I called upon Your name, O Lord, out of the depths of the dungeon.

Invoqué tu nombre, oh Jehová, desde lo profundo de la fosa;

56 Y ou heard my voice: hide not Your ear at my prayer for relief.

Oíste mi grito; no cierres tu oído a mi grito de socorro.

57 Y ou drew near on the day I called to You; You said, Fear not.

Te acercaste el día que te invoqué; y dijiste: No temas.

58 O Lord, You have pleaded the causes of my soul; You have rescued and redeemed my life!

Abogaste, Señor, la causa de mi alma; redimiste mi vida.

59 O Lord, You have seen my wrong; judge and maintain my cause.

Tú has visto, oh Jehová, mi agravio; defiende mi causa.

60 Y ou have seen all their vengeance, all their devices against me.

Has visto toda su venganza, todos sus planes contra mí.

61 Y ou have heard their reproach and revilings, O Lord, and all their devices against me—

Has oído sus insultos, oh Jehová, todas sus maquinaciones contra mí;

62 T he lips and thoughts of my assailants are against me all day long.

Los dichos de los que contra mí se levantaron, y sus tramas contra mí todo el día.

63 L ook at their sitting down and their rising up; I am their singsong.

Su sentarse y su levantarse mira; yo soy su copla.

64 R ender to them a recompense, O Lord, according to the work of their hands.

Dales el pago, oh Jehová, según la obra de sus manos.

65 Y ou will give them hardness and blindness of heart; Your curse will be upon them.

Entrégalos al endurecimiento de corazón; tu maldición caiga sobre ellos.

66 Y ou will pursue and afflict them in anger and destroy them from under Your heavens, O Lord.

Persíguelos en tu furor, y extermínalos de debajo de los cielos, oh Jehová.
