1 A fter Jesus had finished all that He had to say in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.

Después que acabó de dirigir todas estas palabras a los oídos del pueblo, entró en Capernaúm.

2 N ow a centurion had a bond servant who was held in honor and highly valued by him, who was sick and at the point of death.

Estaba enfermo y a punto de morir el siervo de un centurión, a quien éste apreciaba mucho.

3 A nd when the centurion heard of Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to Him, requesting Him to come and make his bond servant well.

Habiendo oído hablar de Jesús, envió adonde él estaba unos ancianos de los judíos, para rogarle que viniese a sanar a su siervo.

4 A nd when they reached Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that You should do this for him,

Éstos se presentaron a Jesús, y le rogaban con insistencia, diciendo: Es digno de que le concedas esto;

5 F or he loves our nation and he built us our synagogue.

porque él ama a nuestro pueblo, y él mismo nos ha edificado la sinagoga.

6 A nd Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying, Lord, do not trouble, for I am not sufficiently worthy to have You come under my roof;

Iba Jesús con ellos, y cuando ya no estaba lejos de la casa, el centurión envió a él unos amigos, diciéndole: Señor, no te molestes más; pues no soy tan importante como para que entres bajo mi techo;

7 N either did I consider myself worthy to come to You. But speak a word, and my servant boy will be healed.

por lo cual ni me consideré a mí mismo digno de venir a ti; pero dilo de palabra, y mi siervo será sano.

8 F or I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my bond servant, Do this, and he does it.

Pues también yo soy un hombre puesto bajo autoridad, y tengo soldados bajo mis órdenes; y le digo a éste: ¡Ve!, y va; y a otro: ¡Ven!, y viene; y a mi siervo: ¡Haz esto!, y lo hace.

9 N ow when Jesus heard this, He marveled at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.

Al oír esto, Jesús se quedó maravillado de él, y volviéndose, dijo a la multitud que le seguía: Os digo que ni aun en Israel he hallado una fe tan grande.

10 A nd when the messengers who had been sent returned to the house, they found the bond servant who had been ill quite well again.

Y cuando los que habían sido enviados regresaron a la casa, hallaron sano al siervo que había estado enfermo. Jesucristo resucita al hijo de la viuda de Naín

11 S oon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great throng accompanied Him.

Aconteció después que él iba a una ciudad llamada Naín, y marchaban juntamente con él bastantes de sus discípulos, y una gran multitud.

12 a s He drew near the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large gathering from the town was accompanying her.

Cuando llegó cerca de la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí que sacaban a enterrar a un difunto, hijo único de su madre, y ella era viuda, y estaba con ella un grupo considerable de la ciudad.

13 A nd when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.

Cuando el Señor la vio, fue movido a compasión sobre ella, y le dijo: No llores.

14 A nd He went forward and touched the funeral bier, and the pallbearers stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, arise '> from death]!

Él se acercó y tocó la camilla mortuoria, y los que lo llevaban se detuvieron, y él dijo: Joven, a ti te digo, ¡levántate!

15 A nd the man dead sat up and began to speak. And gave him to his mother.

Entonces el muerto se incorporó y comenzó a hablar, y él se lo dio a su madre.

16 P rofound and reverent fear seized them all, and they began to recognize God and praise and give thanks, saying, A great Prophet has appeared among us! And God has visited His people!

El temor se apoderó de todos, y glorificaban a Dios, diciendo: Un gran profeta ha surgido entre nosotros; y Dios ha visitado a su pueblo.

17 A nd this report concerning spread through the whole of Judea and all the country round about.

Y esto que se decía de él, se divulgó por toda la Judea y por toda la región circunvecina. Los mensajeros de Juan el Bautista

18 A nd John’s disciples brought him word of all these things.

Los discípulos de Juan informaron a éste de todas estas cosas. Entonces Juan, llamando a dos de sus discípulos,

19 A nd John summoned to him a certain two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord, saying, Are You He Who is to come, or shall we look for another?

los envió a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el que había de venir, o continuaremos aguardando a otro?

20 S o the men came to Jesus and said, John the Baptist sent us to You to ask, Are You the One Who is to come, or shall we look for another?

Cuando los hombres se presentaron donde estaba él, dijeron: Juan el Bautista nos ha enviado a ti, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el que había de venir, o continuaremos aguardando a otro?

21 I n that very hour Jesus was healing many of sicknesses and distressing bodily plagues and evil spirits, and to many who were blind He gave '> a free, gracious, joy-giving gift of] sight.

En esa misma hora sanó a muchos de enfermedades y dolencias, y de malos espíritus, y otorgó la vista a muchos ciegos.

22 S o He replied to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the good news (the Gospel) preached to them.

Luego les respondió Jesús, diciendo: Id e informad a Juan de lo que habéis visto y oído: Los ciegos ven de nuevo, los cojos caminan, los leprosos son limpiados, los sordos oyen, los muertos son resucitados, a los pobres se les anuncia el evangelio.

23 A nd blessed (happy— with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, apart from outward conditions—and to be envied) is he who takes no offense in Me and who is not hurt or resentful or annoyed or repelled or made to stumble '> whatever may occur].

Y bienaventurado es cualquiera que no halla en mí ocasión de tropiezo.

24 A nd the messengers of John having departed, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: What did you go out into the desert to gaze on? A reed shaken and swayed by the wind?

Cuando se marcharon los mensajeros de Juan, comenzó a decir ante las multitudes acerca de Juan: ¿Qué salisteis a contemplar en el desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento?

25 T hen what did you go out to see? A man dressed up in soft garments? Behold, those who wear fine apparel and live in luxury are in the courts or palaces of kings.

Si no, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un hombre vestido con ropas finas? He aquí que los que se visten de espléndidas vestiduras y viven en la molicie, están en los palacios reales.

26 W hat then did you go out to see? A prophet (a forthteller)? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.

Entonces, ¿qué salisteis a ver? ¿Un profeta? Pues sí, os digo, y superior a un profeta.

27 T his is the one of whom it is written, Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who shall make ready Your way before You.

Éste es aquel de quien está escrito: He aquí que envío mi mensajero delante de tu faz, El cual preparará tu camino delante de ti.

28 I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; but he that is inferior in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

Os digo que entre los nacidos de mujeres, no hay mayor profeta que Juan el Bautista; pero el que es menor en el reino de Dios es mayor que él.

29 A nd all the people who heard Him, even the tax collectors, acknowledged the justice of God '> calling them to repentance and in pronouncing future wrath on the impenitent], being baptized with the baptism of John.

Y todo el pueblo que le escuchó y los cobradores de impuestos reconocieron la justicia de Dios, siendo bautizados con el bautismo de Juan;

30 B ut the Pharisees and the lawyers annulled and rejected and brought to nothing God’s purpose concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.

pero los fariseos y los legistas rechazaron el designio de Dios para con ellos mismos, no siendo bautizados por él.

31 S o to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And what are they like?

¿A qué, pues, compararé los hombres de esta generación, y a qué son semejantes?

32 T hey are like little children sitting in the marketplace, calling to one another and saying, We piped to you, and you did not dance; we sang dirges and wailed, and you did not weep.

Son semejantes a los muchachos que se sientan en la plaza y que se gritan unos a otros y dicen: Os hemos tocado la flauta, y no habéis bailado; entonamos canciones de duelo, y no llorasteis.

33 F or John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon.

Porque vino Juan el Bautista, que no comía pan ni bebía vino, y decís: Tiene un demonio.

34 T he Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a Man Who is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and notorious sinners.

Ha venido el Hijo del Hombre, que come y bebe, y decís: He aquí un hombre glotón y bebedor de vino, amigo de cobradores de impuestos y pecadores.

35 Y et wisdom is vindicated ( shown to be true and divine) by all her children '> by their life, character, and deeds].

Y la sabiduría ha sido justificada por todos sus hijos. Jesús en el hogar de Simón el fariseo

36 O ne of the Pharisees asked Jesus to dine with him, and He went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.

Uno de los fariseos le pedía que comiera con él. Y entrando en la casa del fariseo, se sentó a la mesa.

37 A nd behold, a woman of the town who was an especially wicked sinner, when she learned that He was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment (perfume).

En esto, una mujer pecadora pública que había en la ciudad, enterada de que él estaba a la mesa en la casa del fariseo, trajo un frasco de alabastro con perfume,

38 A nd standing behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with tears; and she wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed His feet and anointed them with the ointment (perfume).

y colocándose detrás, junto a sus pies, se echó a llorar y comenzó a regar con sus lágrimas los pies de él, y a enjugarlos con los cabellos de su cabeza; y besaba afectuosamente sus pies, y los ungía con el perfume.

39 N ow when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw it, he said to himself, If this Man were a prophet, He would surely know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching Him—for she is a notorious sinner (a social outcast, devoted to sin).

Al verlo el fariseo que le había invitado, dijo para sí: Éste, si fuera profeta, conocería quién y qué clase de mujer es la que le está tocando, que es una pecadora.

40 A nd Jesus, replying, said to him, Simon, I have something to say to you. And he answered, Teacher, say it.

Jesús, dirigiéndose a él, le dijo: Simón, tengo algo que decirte. Y él le dice: Dilo, Maestro.

41 A certain lender of money had two debtors: one owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

Cierto prestamista tenía dos deudores; el uno le debía quinientos denarios, y el otro cincuenta.

42 W hen they had no means of paying, he freely forgave them both. Now which of them will love him more?

No teniendo ellos con qué pagarle, les perdonó a ambos la deuda. Di pues, ¿cuál de ellos le amara más?

43 S imon answered, The one, I take it, for whom he forgave and cancelled more. And Jesus said to him, You have decided correctly.

Simón respondió y dijo: Supongo que aquel a quien perdonó más. Y él le dijo: Rectamente has juzgado.

44 T hen turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? When I came into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

Y, volviéndose hacia la mujer, dijo a Simón: ¿Ves esta mujer? Cuando entré en tu casa, no me diste agua para los pies; pero ésta ha regado mis pies con sus lágrimas, y los ha enjugado con sus cabellos.

45 Y ou gave Me no kiss, but she from the moment I came in has not ceased '> intermittently] to kiss My feet tenderly and caressingly.

No me diste beso; pero ésta, desde que entré, no ha dejado de besarme los pies afectuosamente.

46 Y ou did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume.

No ungiste mi cabeza con aceite; pero ésta ha ungido con perfume mis pies.

47 T herefore I tell you, her sins, many, are forgiven her—because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little.

En atención a lo cual, te digo: Quedan perdonados sus pecados, que son muchos; por eso muestra mucho amor; pero aquel a quien se le perdona poco, ama poco.

48 A nd He said to her, Your sins are forgiven!

Y a ella le dijo: Quedan perdonados tus pecados.

49 T hen those who were at table with Him began to say among themselves, Who is this Who even forgives sins?

Los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa, comenzaron a decir entre ellos: ¿Quién es éste que hasta perdona pecados?

50 B ut Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go (enter) into peace '> in freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin].

Pero él dijo a la mujer: Tu fe te ha salvado; vete en paz.
