1 A nd when King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.

Aconteció, pues, que cuando el rey Ezequías oyó esto, rasgó sus vestidos, y cubierto de saco vino a la casa de Jehová.

2 A nd he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and the older priests, clothed with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.

Y envió a Eliaquim el mayordomo, a Sebná el escriba y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de saco, al profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz.

3 A nd they said to him, Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble and distress and of rebuke and of disgrace; for children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.

Los cuales le dijeron: Así ha dicho Ezequías: Día de angustia, de castigo y de escarnio es este día; porque los hijos han llegado hasta el punto de nacer, y la que da a luz no tiene fuerzas.

4 I t may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria, his master, has sent to mock, reproach, insult, and defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the Lord your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.

Quizás oirá Jehová tu Dios las palabras del Rabsacés, al cual el rey de Asiria su señor envió para insultar al Dios vivo, y castigará las palabras que oyó Jehová tu Dios; eleva, pues, oración tú por el remanente que aún ha quedado.

5 S o the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

Vinieron, pues, los siervos de Ezequías a Isaías.

6 A nd Isaiah said to them, You shall say to your master, Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid because of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have reviled and blasphemed Me.

Y les dijo Isaías: Diréis así a vuestro señor: Así ha dicho Jehová: No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.

7 B ehold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a rumor and return to his own land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

He aquí que yo pondré en él un espíritu, y oirá un rumor, y volverá a su tierra; y haré que en su propia tierra perezca a espada. Partida del copero mayor

8 S o the Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah; for he had heard that the king had departed from Lachish.

Vuelto, pues, el Rabsacés, halló al rey de Asiria que combatía contra Libná; porque ya había oído que se había apartado de Laquís.

9 A nd heard concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He has come forth to make war with you. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

Mas oyendo decir de Tirhaca rey de Etiopía: He aquí que ha salido para hacerte la guerra; al oírlo, envió mensajeros a Ezequías, diciendo:

10 T hus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah: Let not your God in Whom you trust deceive you by saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

Así diréis a Ezequías rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, diciendo: Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.

11 B ehold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, destroying them utterly. And shall you be delivered?

He aquí que tú oíste lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria a todas las tierras, que las destruyeron; ¿y escaparás tú?

12 H ave the gods of the nations delivered those whom my predecessors have destroyed, as Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?

¿Acaso libraron sus dioses a las naciones que destruyeron mis antepasados, a Gozán, Harán, Résef y a los hijos de Eden que moraban en Telasai?

13 W here is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?

¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, el rey de Arfad, y el rey de la ciudad de Sefarváyim, de Hená y de Ivá?

14 A nd Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord.

Y tomó Ezequías las cartas de mano de los embajadores, y las leyó; y subió a la casa de Jehová, y las extendió delante de Jehová.

15 A nd Hezekiah prayed to the Lord:

Entonces Ezequías oró a Jehová, diciendo:

16 O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, Who are enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, que moras entre los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste los cielos y la tierra.

17 I ncline Your ear, O Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib which he has sent to mock, reproach, insult, and defy the living God.

Inclina, oh Jehová, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh Jehová, tus ojos, y mira; y oye todas las palabras de Senaquerib, que ha enviado a insultar al Dios viviente.

18 I t is true, Lord, that the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands

Ciertamente, oh Jehová, los reyes de Asiria destruyeron todas las tierras y sus comarcas,

19 A nd have cast the gods of those peoples into the fire, for they were not gods but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

y entregaron los dioses de ellos al fuego; porque no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombres, madera y piedra; por eso los destruyeron.

20 N ow therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know (understand and realize) that You are the Lord, even You only.

Ahora, pues, Jehová Dios nuestro, líbranos de su mano para que todos los reinos de la tierra conozcan que sólo tú eres Jehová.

21 T hen Isaiah son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria,

Entonces Isaías hijo de Amoz envió a decir a Ezequías: Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel: Acerca de lo que me rogaste sobre Senaquerib rey de Asiria,

22 T his is the word which the Lord has spoken concerning him: The Virgin Daughter of Zion has despised you and laughed you to scorn; the Daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head behind you.

éstas son las palabras que Jehová habló respecto de él: La virgen hija de Sión te menosprecia, te escarnece; detrás de ti mueve su cabeza la hija de Jerusalén.

23 W hom have you mocked and reviled ? And against Whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!

¿A quién vituperaste, y a quién blasfemaste? ¿Contra quién has alzado tu voz, y levantado tus ojos en alto? Contra el Santo de Israel.

24 B y your servants you have mocked, reproached, insulted, and defied the Lord, and you have said, With my many chariots I have gone up to the height of the mountains, to the inner recesses of Lebanon. I cut down its tallest cedars and its choicest cypress trees; I came to its remotest height, its most luxuriant and dense forest;

Por mano de tus siervos has vituperado al Señor, y dijiste: Con la multitud de mis carros subiré a las alturas de los montes, a las laderas del Líbano; cortaré sus altos cedros, sus cipreses escogidos; llegaré hasta sus más elevadas cumbres, al bosque de sus feraces campos.

25 I dug wells and drank foreign waters, and with the sole of my feet I have dried up all the rivers of Egypt.

Yo cavé, y bebí las aguas, y con las pisadas de mis pies sequé todos los ríos de Egipto.

26 h ave you not heard that I purposed to do it long ago, that I planned it in ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that you should lay waste fortified cities, making them ruinous heaps.

¿No has oído decir que desde tiempos antiguos yo lo hice, que desde los días de la antigüedad lo tengo ideado? Y ahora lo he hecho venir, a fin de que tú redujeras las ciudades fortificadas a montones de escombros.

27 T herefore their inhabitants had little power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were like the grass of the field and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops and like a field of grain blasted before it is grown or is in stalk.

Por eso, sus moradores fueron de corto poder; fueron acobardados y confusos, fueron como hierba del campo y hortaliza verde, como heno de los terrados, que antes de sazón se seca.

28 B ut I know your sitting down and your going out and your coming in and your raging against Me.

Conozco tu condición, tu salida y tu entrada, y tu furor contra mí.

29 B ecause your raging against Me and your arrogance and careless ease have come to My ears, therefore will I put My hook in your nose and My bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way you came.

Puesto que contra mí te airaste, y tu arrogancia ha subido a mis oídos; por eso pondré mi garfio en tu nariz, y mi freno en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste. La señal para Ezequías

30 A nd this shall be the sign to you: you shall eat this year what grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from the same. And in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.

Y esto te será por señal: Comeréis este año lo que nace de suyo, y el año segundo lo que nace de suyo; y el año tercero sembraréis y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis su fruto.

31 A nd the remnant that has survived of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.

Y lo que haya quedado de la casa de Judá y haya escapado, volverá a echar raíz abajo, y dará fruto arriba.

32 F or out of Jerusalem will go forth a remnant, and a band that survives out of Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente, y del monte de Sión los supervivientes. El celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.

33 T herefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city or shoot an arrow here or come before it with shield or cast up a siege mound against it.

Por tanto, así dice Jehová acerca del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni arrojará ninguna saeta en ella; no vendrá delante de ella con escudo, ni levantará contra ella baluarte.

34 B y the way that he came, by the same way he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, says the Lord.

Por el camino que vino, volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice Jehová.

35 F or I will defend this city to save it, for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David.

Porque yo ampararé a esta ciudad para salvarla, por amor de mí mismo, y por amor de David mi siervo.

36 A nd the Angel of the Lord went forth, and slew 185, 000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when arose early in the morning, behold, all these were dead bodies.

Y salió el Ángel de Jehová y mató a ciento ochenta y cinco mil en el campamento de los asirios; y cuando se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí que todo era cuerpos de muertos.

37 S o Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.

Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, se fue, e hizo su morada en Nínive.

38 A nd as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons killed him with the sword, and they escaped into the land of Armenia or Ararat. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

Y aconteció que mientras adoraba en el templo de Nisroc su dios, sus hijos Adramélec y Sarézer le mataron a espada, y huyeron a la tierra de Ararat; y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.
